WORLD CUP-FINAL

Post by Buxtonclaret » Sun Jun 11, 2017 9:13 am

Heads up if anyone's missed it.
U20 World Cup final. On BBC 2 at 11am.
England v Venezuela

Got to be better than the dross served up by the senior side yesterday. 8-)

Very impressive against Italy in the semis and won't be playing two defensive midfielders like that idiot yesterday.

That free kick...a hit that only Joey G could emulate...but this one didn't go over the bar.

They've come out strong.
But that was a hell of a shot then. Could have been 2-0 (would have counted in '66). :D

Just learnt that the fans aren't supposed to Mexican wave if it's a good game. Who knew that? I thought it had to be done at every world cup final...

Fantastic pen save by keeper - full dive to his right, the ball hit centre, but he got his left hand back and had the strength in his hand to push it wide.

First world cup since 1966. Come on England.

Of the names we don't quite recognise yet, any of these England lads likely to make it at PL level or higher?

Of the Venezuelans, Peneranda looks a good player, but he has picked up that diving/cheating mentality already. He will do well in the PL.

Calvert-Lewin and Lookman both played equivalent of around three games for Everton this last season.

Lewis Cook 400+ mins at Bournmouth, had a three month injury or might have seen more.

Here's a breakdown of where they all are and what they're up to, given their age I expect we'll see plenty of them over the next few years. Could even be a future Claret in there, who knows.

What is it with all these double barrelled surnames?

As I type, we are the World Champions. Well done to the young lions.

Cracking last few minutes there.

England looked tired but certainly didn't bottle it - unlike their senior counterparts.

Great job!

Just seen the penalty replay. The only thing confirmed for me was the fact that even with video refs and playback, they can STILL get it wrong. Looked a great tackle to me. (ex defender)

I think I'm right in saying the double barrelled surnames are mainly from Afro Caribbean parents giving their children the surnames of both the mother and father.

The referee made the correct decision. In the final replay it showed that the players back leg was clattered into.
