Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
We signed Brady as a long term option in Boyd's position on January, and as someone who can cross a ball. If we're looking for another midfield option to replace Boyd, whilst Robertson can operate in midfield, i'd hope we'd be looking for q specialist. Perhaps Robertson's teammate, Clucas, who can operate right across the midfield. If we could add Robertson and someone like that, we'd add some terrific flexibility to the squad.Braindead wrote:I definitely see Robertson as a replacement for Boyd as opposed to Ward.
He is a decent early crosser of a ball which is something we've lacked since England's Keiron Trippier left.
Would be a top quality affordable signing if true.

Let's hope we never have to have Brady at left back. I don't care if he's played there for Hull, Ireland or whoever else.
We need him up the pitch.

It was more of a reply to Random's post (post 100).
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Even the football threads are focussing on the left of centre these days! Let's not completely neglect centre right thinking.

Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
I'd probably be happy to see Brady at " Left Back " if he were actually a wing back in a 5, thinking about it.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Brady not exactly any good at defending. Ward with Robertson ahead of him would be very powerful.

I'm sure we can haggle for a few more weeks yet to make sure we get the best price possible. We are in no rush to be wasting extra millions forcing deals through.

Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
If he were to come, it would be something of a coup, assuming Liverpool were genuinely interested at one point.
Still feel that whilst he's likely an upgrade on Ward, and much younger, it's probably the position on the pitch we have best covered aside from the nets. Would rather we spent £15m on a midfielder or striker.
Still, sounds like we're going to break our transfer record again!

He would replace Boyd on the left, not Ward.

Where does that leave Brady? Surely SD saw enough of him on the right last season to write that off as an option?!IanMcL wrote:He would replace Boyd on the left, not Ward.

Ian has this blinkered view on football and life in general, if something is of jock origin it is better. Hence is stance that Ross Wallace is the best wide player we have had ever.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Knowing the way Dyche likes to set up and he does have a penchant for inverted wingers. It makes sense that he brings in an attacking left full back. I'd suspect he's looking at similar on the right. It also gives cover across the left. On the right we look a little under staffed now. So I'd probably expect at least one right sided attacking full back/winger. I may not be in the majority, but I saw the potential of Brady playing the inverted right winger at Palace, where some of his link up play with Hendrick, Westwood and Ward was sublime. I've long thought the key areas to be strengthened this summer have been both full backs/wing backs and at least one more centre half (regardless of Keane staying or going - Losing Mee and Keane proved our fragility) a box to box midfielder, creative midfielder and a striker.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Brady didn't play against Palace
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Fair point. I am getting mixed up with another game, but the link up play was exceptional.BFC123 wrote:Brady didn't play against Palace

No surely Jean Louis Valois! He brightened my day, on occasion, when we were poor!claretdom wrote:Ian has this blinkered view on football and life in general, if something is of jock origin it is better. Hence is stance that Ross Wallace is the best wide player we have had ever.
Not blinkered, just practical. Brady, evidently, likes to play right side. Robertson is very much left side. Ward had a fabulous season both defensively and bombing down the wing. Ward can head the ball well too. Brady is iffy defensively, Robertson is not.
We may actually find that Brady gets squeezed if JBG comes back firing on all cylinders.

Brady prefers right side, erm, apart from playing all his career to date down the left?

I quoted the wrong game, but he did this effectively in one game. Floated behind the front line effectively. It was lovely to watch.Reecey1987 wrote:Or he might push brady behind just front two or just behind the striker

I have heard similar to Ian. Brady likes playing on the right. Whether coaches choose to play him there is a different story but I have heard from people close to him on punditry that he likes playing the inverted role.quoonbeatz wrote:he absolutely does not, ian.

Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
hope not as on the evidence so far, he's crap at it.
Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Can't disagree so far, one game apart where he played well on the right. But then if you expected Brady to be anything but a player who would take time to adapt, then you're wrong.quoonbeatz wrote:hope not as on the evidence so far, he's crap at it.
I am not convinced Brady can do right wing either, let's be straight. But, it depends who else he brings in. I'd rather have a winger who can cut in on the left or right foot, but they cost mega bucks. If a cheaper alternative is back up wing backs allowing a different framework. Well it could work. I emphasise could and throw in 'Hope' as a freebie!

Re: Andrew Robertson betting odds...
Regarding Brady's position, I think he's viewed largely as an orthodox left winger, certainly in a 4-4-2, but he did play at the front of a midfield 3 a bit at Hull and for Ireland.
That isn't to say he couldn't operate on the right for us. Clearly, his great strength is his crossing and really, it is a case of getting him into as many positions as possible from which he can deliver really penetrating crosses. With Vokes up front who really thrives on inswinging deliveries he can get in front of the defender and guide (rather than outswinging deliveries that require a "bullet" header), there's a certain logic to Brady operating on the right, although of course we do also have JBG who offers similar delivery and really does prefer the right.
