We were once drawn against our upcoming friendly opponents Hannover 96 competitively, but the tie was never played.

Remember dad filmed some very amateur 8mm cine film of the visit from Viscount Montgomery. Pretty sure it was later transferred to VHS, not sure if it has survived.

Just about to say was it 'the battle of Turf Moor' he attended. Remember the game and Alex Elder's incredible o.g.. We needed a win,I think, to secure runners-up spot in Div. 1. If you consider some of the players on show that day(and I stress on both sides) then once the 'first assault' was launched there wasn't anyone really available to negotiate any peace proposals.

Both sides? We had a very innocent line up that day.

First season when we had subs but they could only be used to replace an injured player. No one got injured in those games, they just carried on with the lumps kicked out of them.

Re the picture, I can re call the man in the middle of the back row with glasses on. Was he called Clive?. Of the others I know 3 of them well+ there's another who hid behind the flag to avoid being seen on the photo, as he had rung work saying he was sick. I'm sure Malcom was selling people the scarves with Claret n Blue running downwards.
Am I right in thinking we should have played Lucerne, rather than Lausanne?, when the draw was made.
I always felt we shouldn't have been denied a place in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup, based on the fact that, although were not a City, we held a fair every year.
For a long time teams like Nottingham Forest and Birmingham played in the tournament and they had usually finished near the bottom of the division, while we finished near the top. I think one season Birmingham were entered, when they had been relegated to the old Div 2.

I attended all the Fairs Cup home games as a lad - I remember being at the front of the Scratching Shed v Napoli when Andy Lochhead got stamped on right in front of us - but I'd no idea about the pre-competition shenanigans.

I remember the cup campaign clearly including the 3 0 win over Napoli on the Turf and the 0 0 in Naples where Adam Blacklaw got in a tussle with the Italian authorities! Surprised big Brian Wren doesn't feature on the photo. Dont think he missed a game home or away in the Sixties. But look at the suits and ties! Think some of us need to up our game for our away day attire!

Went to the game v Napoli at the Turf where we played in our 'away' kit that night whilst the visitors wore their traditional home kit. Both sides in ' home' kits in the return leg. Seems a little strange in hindsight. Was it a Harry Thomson penalty save that irked the home fans into their angry behaviour? He did the same at Blackpool a few days later but without a similar response from their fans.
