Burnley ,our legendary and illustrious club.

Post by davemanu2000 » Sat Jul 01, 2017 7:52 pm

The acquisitions of new players by modest clubs like Bournemouth ,WBA ,Southampton and others make me think a lot . It is no secret to anybody that the English Premier League is the most competitive in the whole world . Some countries may have two or three clubs to boast over . But England has a multiple of clubs aiming for honours . Just compare and any of these clubs can be the next champions : Arsenal ,Tottenham , Manchester United,Manchester City ,Liverpool ,Everton ,and one or two others . Two years back it was the least expected club Leicester City which won the laurels .

In order to be in competition all the clubs are vying one another to seal a potential player.Their bids are between 50,000 to 100,000 million pounds . Further they are enticing young players to join their academies . Recently the harvest was good and as a result many good players came from these institutions .

Both relegations and to be crowned as champions are tough and most competitive . Three are relegated at a time . The football Gurus have predicted that Burnley would be one that may be relegated this season . I feel sad to read such predictions .They find it easy to point their fingers on small city or town clubs as their revenues are limited because their catchment areas are small . A club like Burnley can go up to 22,000 only . Other clubs are expanding to attract maximum number of spectators .Recently all the big guns like Manchester United ,Manchester City ,Liverpool , Arsenal , and now Tottenham have extended their home grounds . Even West Ham have shifted to London Stadium where more seats are available . Of course that will bring them more money and they can afford to spend more and more to acquire new players from the continent or South America .

Really I feel sad for my favourite club . With little that they have their hands are attached and cannot venture for better players .Sadder I am to read that their proven top players are targets to move to bigger clubs .The arrival of new players is rare . As such they cannot bolster to make Burnley a better competitive club .

Just bring your memory lane back to the late 50s and early 60s when Burnley ruled Britain . They had a good crop of players and some of them retained at international levels. To quote only some :MacDonald ,MacIlroy , Elder ,Pointer ,the Wales wizard whose name is escaping me ,and many others who were the precious and sparkling jewels on the crown of Burnley .

I would say not to lose hope . We have time to acquire some players inland and abroad to shelter us from the muddy pit of relegation . Up the clarets ! Long live Burnley !Jai Ho Burnley ! The flag to do better is unfurled and floating high in all its splendor in the British sky .

The welsh wizard is Leighton James and these last few seasons have seen great achievements so I would say don't feel down. We still have SD and us Clarets have a resilience that will see us survive and prosper.

Lovely post dave and how lucky are we that were able to watch those great players of the 50s, 60s and 70s, however, I consider myself very lucky that I am still fit and able to go and watch our current players represent our illustrious club in these very different times, particularly as far as finance is concerned.
Our players today still wear our Claret and Blue with pride and they still give us passion, as a supporter we cannot ask for more.
I trust that you are keeping well and are still involved with Faucon Flacq.

Dave thank you for an evocative and loving tribute to our club and community. But don't be downhearted. Our job for a little while is to be David (yes!) beating Goliath proving that with intelligence and effort the teams like us that are not expected to succeed can have their day in the sun and a lot more. The name Burnley is now inspirational, and synonymous with all that is admired throughout the world by people who want the under dog to win and probably couldn't even point out the town on a map. Enjoy every moment.

Spot on Cobble.
Dave a well written comment. My first memories of your and my connection with BFC from your part of the world was from the 50s. The words you speak, are the inspiration for anyone who is looking to connect to a football club, which they feel is right for them and one they can relate to as the inspiration for them to be a lifelong supporter of that club. Not just as a person supposedly there to share the glory, of a trophy winning team, but one that wears that clubs heart on their sleeve and supports it through thick and thin. Once a Claret always a Claret

I think one player from Leeds is already netted . Burnley are in talks with a number of worthwhile players . We hope that they do materialize . With added new players Burnley can play and win against any club of the Premier League .
Now Burnley have the required money to pounce upon affordable players and add to their squad . Our club is a PL outfit . At all cost we have to seek a place in the sun and play the best football with the greatest clubs in England

It seems a long time since we had a T-Shirt issue. I'm thinking that we should maybe produce a batch of claret tees with a large sky blue palm tree and the words "Jai Ho Burnley!" on them.

I do feel that the number of players each club is allowed and out on loan should be reduced such that smaller clubs get the chance to bring talent through and see benefits. The trend of having so many players out on loans from the "big" clubs is an unfair advantage before a ball is even kicked and they should have to decide who they want and nurture far more than they do rather than simply saying "we have enough money, buy them all, loan them out and we will see in a few years which we really want"

My official name is Bhurdwaz Mungur . At home and my friends call me Dave . The meanibg of "Bhurdwaz" is a Brahmin sub caste .Mungur orMunger is the name of a district in Bihar . Probably the great grand father emanates from that area . According to records he settled in Mauritius in 1861.He grew prosperous in tobacco plantation. Nowadays tobacco is no more grown here .
