Re: Britt Assombalonga
Its completely possible that the reason we didn't bother trying to meet asking price is because we knew we weren't going to meet his demands on wages (he might not have demanded we meet Boro's offer but he'd want to get close enough). But it is all speculation either way.Pearcey wrote:I'm aware of that AG. Just a few people on this thread calling him greedy.
Re: Britt Assombalonga
BA is probably not as good as AG, at least yet and has a big question mark against his fitness. It would be a lot cheaper to pay AG the increase he expects, for a year or two than speculate fifteen million. It goes against the grain but logically makes sense. Yes there is a wage structure but its a short career and I guess the others in the squad would understand why.

Re: Britt Assombalonga
I've no idea whether J Rod wanted to come, or if SD was even interested, but I have to agree that for the money, this now looks like a great piece of business for WBA. It would have been a great signing, and not because it's a returning player, I don't care about that 'one of our own' crap, but because I believe it would've been a progressive signing, with a tangible improvement from last year. As yet, and I know there's plenty of time to go, but overall, mainly due to the loss of Keane, we're weaker than last season.Hendrickxz wrote:Should have got JRod for £12 mil and 40K a week when we had the chance. We have signed 3 top players and still have Ben Mee
So we are not weaker by any means and signing players with injury records is always a gamble

Re: Britt Assombalonga
What an absolute farce this has been, I'm not convinced that we had any intention of signing him, or in fact he had any intention of coming, but in order to be stronger than last season we sure still need another striker.
Re: Britt Assombalonga
No farce at all. We probably decided he wasn't worth it. He's not proven in the PL either. Best get the toys back in the pram.

Re: Britt Assombalonga
Why is it a farce. We made a very fair bid, apparently upped it slightly but were unsuccessful due to a desperate Champ sides 'sugar daddy' bank rolling them beyond their means, over paying for a player with a dubious injury record. There's plenty of strikers out there, I for one trust that we will do our best to land one, or two if Gray leaves (which I hope he doesn't).
They only signed Cry baby Bamford in January, he'll be back in the car park again as he finds himself behind Britt, Gestede and Braithwaite.

Farce?
We wanted a player, but 'Boro wanted him more than we did, and he wanted to go there more than he wanted to come here.
It happens, we move on.

Re: Britt Assombalonga
It was just another stunt to drive up the price imo, and yes I fully agree too much for an unproven premier league striker but a risk worth taking again imo mind, but it just concerns me slightly that it's yet another target we've miseed out on, but even more concerning, "who now" fact is their hard to come by.

When you say "yet another" thats a bit unfair, as we've got the three main targets we've aimed for so far.

If he does an Andre Gray, and fires them to Automatic Promotion, then it's money well spent.
If not, it's a potential millstone around their necks.

Re: Britt Assombalonga
I know this wont be of much interest (maybe it will) and I absolutely am not posting to be antagonistic, but the club have released a statement regarding the figures being bandied about in the press during Assombalonga's signing;
http://www.mfc.co.uk/news/mfc-clarifying-transfer-facts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.mfc.co.uk/news/mfc-clarifying-transfer-facts" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is very much a dig towards our local rag who repeatedly fall short in their sport journalism.MFC would like to clarify that contrary to reports in Tuesday’s Teesside Gazette, the club’s new record signing Britt Assombalonga was a £15m transfer and not £14m as reported.
We can also further state that the wage figures suggested in reports by the Gazette are wide of the mark. We can confirm that the club works within the strict parameters of our wage structure and all our playing staff are inside a bracket that falls way below the figures reported.
Furthermore, the same report states the club paid Atalanta £10.8m for the services of Marten de Roon last summer when, in reality, the club paid a transfer fee of £8.8m with a further £900,000 on the player making 30 appearances.
As a club, we are keen to ensure our fans receive the correct information and facts rather than read misinformation from outside sources.

Why is it a dig Boro's local paper when media across the country will all show different figures?

Difference is chicarito has a clause in his contract for £12m which west ham look to be activating. He will be looking for a good payday so not a chance of him coming here.LawsCanalJump wrote:We move on! Chicarito is rated at 12 million
As for the sugar daddy chairman backing the boro he has just sold Rhodes for about £10m so to get a younger faster player which the manager wanted is not them spending big when it's only another £5m more is it. They also have parachute payments so will be ok in that sense. Reports of deRoon, Gibson, Downing all going for up to £20m, up to £30m and free respectively so should free up plenty of funds in wages and transfer kitty. They also want up to £20m for Traore if anyone wants to pay it and have no desire or need to sell any so will wait for best prices if anyone wants to or they stay.
Bamford wont be going down the pecking order either, he scored 17 championship goals last time he was at the boro and he played on the right for a good chunk of that season. Front line of:
Assambongola/Gestede/Bamford
Braithwaite/Ojo(if they get him) Ramires/Bamford. Bamford/Traore

Either way it's the wages they pay that has been racking up their debts for years.

Good answer - our playing staff at present looks much stronger than it did 12 months ago especially in midfield. Yes we need to replace Keane but that's the only real issue.Woodleyclaret wrote:We have signed 3 top players and still have Ben Mee

Its a bit of an irrelevance to be truthful though, I mean we paid roughly the same amount of money for Rhodes as we sold him for so its not as if its "profit" in the real sense of the world. Just a different financial year.

I agree if he keeps us up his free transfer would be irrelevant but this is Burnley we are talking about. We spend a few million here and there and take profits when we can. Have you been living under a rock regarding new deals? He wants mega star wages and we either can't afford it or aren't willing to break the wage structure to give him what he's demanding. BTW it's reported he wants £100k a week.

He gets grief for scoring 9, yet Vokes is lauded for scoring 10, how does that work?
As for the wages, he dismissed it on twitter.

Reading the papers he's requesting anything from £75k to £100k a week with no official quotes from him or his agent denying anything.
I hope it is a load of rubbish but he's got 12 months left and still not signed a new contract which is "bizarre" for someone who wants to stay at the club.

The lack of anything other than speculation since the first bid would suggest we reached the limit of what we would pay for this player and quickly lost interest.I would like to think for the last few weeks the club has been chasing other targets instead and moved on long before he signed for Borough.Who knows,an alternative striker could be just around the corner....?
Or is this just wishful thinking?
