Nick Pope

Post by claret10 » Wed Jul 26, 2017 12:17 am

What a great guy!

During the warm up tonight he accidentally sent a ball firing into the stand that us Clarets were in and unfortunately hit a young girl square in the face!

Without hesitation he jumped into the stand to make sure the girl was okay. Before going in he returned and handed what looked like a training top to the lady who was with the girl (she had gone for treatment) and sat chatting for a couple of minutes.

I can only assume he was asking who her favourite player was because at full time he made sure he got Andre Gray's shirt and proceeded back to our end (he had been in goal at the opposite side) and handed the girl Andre's and his own shirt plus the gloves he had been wearing.

Big respect to the guy! Good to know we have good people representing our town!

Not sure how a young girl's misfortune can generate a response like this but hey ho each to their own! Can only assume you wouldn't feel the need to respond like that had the girl been your daughter/little sister etc

Thankfully the girl returned to her seat but had quite a swollen looking face. Thankfully she avoided more serious injury because the ball struck her with some force!

Fair play to him...I did similar when I whacked a size 5 Casey into my 6 year old son's fizzog in the garden...gave him chocolate buttons and a drink of doctor pepper. Told mummy it was his own fault for trying to save my Roberto Carlos free kick!!

Still felt bad!

What a nice gesture. I saw him doing it , but wasn't sure the reason why.

As for some responses, what do you expect from a man who defends child abusers and child murderers, whilst using their suffering for his own enjoyment and agendas
Maybe he just doesn't like kids.

No wonder we were skint if Beast was giving kit away every time he sliced a clearance into the stands.

It was my daughter unfortunately, she's fine now but obviously shaken up at the time. He was really upset about it and seemed a really nice guy, he told us to wait back at the end of the game and he'd make sure that he'd let her have his shirt, she ended up with three shirts and his gloves, so she's very happy about that. Suffice to say we won't be sitting behind the goals again.

Turtle can be a pecker, well he is most of the time. But his first post on this thread was clearly a joke, some people need to chill out.

No surprise to see a Pope slap his ball in a childs face. They're known for it.....

Glad the girl is alright.

Well done, Nick Pope. Great to hear our players are decent lads. Everybody remembers Danny Ings and Tripps with the disabled fans. There was also a very praiseworthy post about Matt Taylor in his last season with us.

Fantastic response from Nick Pope and glad your daughter was okay FenceClaret and well chuffed with her gifts. That kind of stuff makes many friends and fans.

BTW - IT's post was (I'm pretty sure) a joke. But when you try to develop a persona of being well-informed, politically fearsome and occasionally funny, every now and then you can make an absolute howler. Occupational hazard.

I'm far from happy with this news. This has happened a number of times now with the victim receiving a shirt or training top signed.

Yet, when I got hit smack on the back of the head by Joey Gudjonsson as I made my way to my seat at Scunthorpe in 2007, all I got was a bloody sore head while having to smile and pretend it hadn't hurt. I can confirm, as we all saw a year or so later v Preston, when Joey hits it, it remains hit.

I have to admit I spat my coffee out when I read IT's post and it made me chuckle, but then I have a dark side. Fantastic from Pope though and I think SD has instilled a very important connection with the fans in that respect. They are in a priveleged position and people come to support them. Appreciate that support and the hard earned money they spend to give that support. It's not lost on the fans that he makes sure this is not lost on the players.
