Burnley's best foreign 11

Post by Inchy » Thu Jul 27, 2017 2:31 pm

or I should say best 11 from outside the UK and Ireland

Seen this on the Wovers board and couldn't think of enough decent foreign players to make up a full squad

So far I have

Beast

Gnohere Bikey Kalvenes

Defour Lois Valois Gudmundsson

------------------Kiraly--------------------------

Mears-----Bikey------Gnohere------Kalvenes

------Djemba Djemba-------Defour-----------------

Gudmundsson -------- Hendrick ------------- Brady

-------------BESART BERISHA---------

Bench : Jensen, Camara, Diallo, Valois, Papadopoulos.

Difficult to do it and it not turn into a cult hero eleven. Ireland's a foreign country so Brady takes Valois' place.

I can't believe Diego Penny hasn't been mentioned. He looks very good on video, you know.

I liked him. Scored a belter against Villa. 3-1 I think we won. when they were playing in a higher division.

We did and all three of our goals were scored by foreigners that night - Valois, Camara and DiBranchio.

How strange that no one has selected Stephen Ward at left back. Probably the most under rated member oF our team at present (IMO).
I would also rate Ian Cox as a better bet at CH than Edgar or Gnohere.

I think the Irish lads are being regarded as "British" in the "British Isles" sense otherwise I think Hendrick and Brady might have had a look in too.
Anyway what about Rune Vindheim (?) whom I seem to recall bestriding Maine Road imperiously ?

Edit..just seen his name mentioned above.

Yes- ROI, like Brady and Hendrick who have already been mentioned.
Not British, so foreign IMO, and likely to be more so in a couple of years.

All this thread highlights is just how unsuccessful our forays into the European market have been.

I did state out side Ireland as well because we have had/ do have some great Irish players. Was trying to make a decent squad out of players not British or Irish.

It does appear we are awful at foreign recruitment

Sorry. Never read the OP, just the thread title, and saw Brady and Hendrick in other posts.

Never really thought about it before but we've had a lot of foreign 'keepers in comparison to outfield players - I can think of 8, there's probably more

Michopoulos
Jensen
Kiraly
Penny
Nizic
Cisak
Cennamo
Kval

Wasnt Drissa Diallo a better defender that Gnohere? Was Mo Camara British? Surely Jensen was better than Kiraly?

Sanokho was definitely not a footballer. Where on Earth did Cotterill find him? I know we had less than a pot to **** in but I would rather have had a fat lad from the crowd go on the pitch.

Hi nil_d, why more foreign in a couple of years? Surely, the longer they spend in England the less foreign they become? A bit like the nationality qualification rules for rugby, cricket, athletics, tennis and, no doubt, a lot of other sports.

Whatever national team they play for they will "always be a Claret."

Is there no place in Burnley's best foreign XI for Aidan O'Neill, Australia?
