Don't be.
On that basis, why should people get upset when someone trawls the internet and starts sending abuse to grieving families on Face book, for example?

Signals.7 years.
In all them 7 years I can't recall ever knowing a Rovers fan squaddie.

Cripes! How could it slip my mind.
I did know of a Rovers fan,Artillery lad,he came into my barrack room uninvited shouting is gob off at me that our fans were rioting at Ewood (83)
The way he barged in mouthing off seemed like he wanted to kick-off with me.
Can't recall my verbal response to him but I did put on a false smirk at his antics but I certainly wasn't secretly smirking listening to BFBS reports of Burnley fans antics that day.

Claretforever wrote:"Football is like panto for adults" said one columnist some years ago about distasteful songs. You'll always get songs which try to get a rise out of the opposition.

When Rovers sang about Ben Lee, or when they sing about incest (which is illegal), they are doing it for the same reason our fans sing about Walker. It's all to get a rise out of the opponent, and the more Rovers fans complain (they haven't this time to be honest, as they're more bothered about their situation), the more Clarets sing it. Crappy hatchback lad is only on here to see if we can argue between ourselves.

When Venky's disappear, and Rovers fans continue not to make a deal about it, our fans will stop as it's not getting the response they crave. I'm sure something else will replace it though.

It doesn't bother me though, as I see it as The King is Dead, Long Live the King. They had a generous owner, and now they are stuck with Venky's.
That is exactly what it is all about!

The Rovers singing about interbreeding and " going down on your sister" aren't going to stop things are they?

Err..Jack Walker IS dead. That's a fact. How is stating it offensive ? The expression "The King is dead , Ling live the King" is common parlance so the song makes perfect sense..and Long Live The Venkys indeed.

If my dad had done so much for Burnley FC that the Barstewards were moved to sing this song after his, ultimately inevitable, death then I think I would feel pretty proud. The song quite obviously is celebrating the shift in ownership from beneficial to terrible..it's not the same as the "dying on the carpet" thing at all.

This debate occurs every single time we play them....for me there is nothing overly-tasteless about this song and it's a nice reminder for that lot of how things have changed.

A man is judged by his actions.

I am quite happy to tell you that I'm not a Dick if you are willing to tell the thousands who sang the song that they are dicks.

The way people go on about this just reflects the massively over-sensitised,sanitised, PC wrd we live in.

If any stops and thinks about it for a minute, it is obvious that the point of the chant is that, where once our bitter rivals had a fantastic owner who bought them a league championship and a prolonged stay in the top division, those days are long gone and he has been replace by a bunch of clueless "businessmen " who have successfully returned them to their correct station in life. For a Burnley fan, why is that not something to be celebrated?

Viewed in that context, I would suggest anyone who gets upset by the factual reference to the passing of a man nearly 20 years ago is being somewhat precious.

I work in BBurn and none of my colleagues who are bstards fans are offended by it as they know it's aimed at the end of an era. If they got a brilliant benefactor in we couldn't sing it. The dieing on the carpet one is a totally different arguement .

So after all the posts on this thread we are surely all in agreement that Jack Walker is actually dead and that we as Burnley fans hope that the reign of the Venkys actually does last for a few more years?

In none song form it doesn't seem so offensive.

Burnley fans said something about Jack Walker, and my sandals came off, and when I woke up in the morning I had to start a thread.

Funny how bstards fans sing incest songs to us but they then refer to themselves as nephews of a deceased ironmonger making them all cousins, judging by the gait, facial deformities and IQ of them I think they ought to look up the meaning of irony.

Can't see why anyone would want to sing about somebody being dead, the guy was a human being ffs with family......that chant really has to stop.
It's 2017 not 1977.
