Your favourite Burnley assist
Your favourite Burnley assist
Well we've seen a few stunning assists already this season. Defour at Chelsea and Brady yesterday. Both up there with my favourite assists by Burnley players in recent times.
What do you look for as a good assist? An inch perfect through ball or a whipped cross putting it on a plate for the striker?
That should go some way to answer my question in the title.
Trippier's away at United few seasons ago for Ings stands out for me.

Re: Your favourite Burnley assist
Lowton at Liverpool was a good one last season although I suspect that was more by luck than judgement. I like a defence splitting through ball played with precision and intention.

This is one of my favourite goals where Barnes scores - the whole build up was fantastic.

Coventry City 0 - 2 Burnley, probably about 2001.
Paul Cook stood over a free kick inside the box (can't remember what it was given for), everyone expects him to smash it at goal. He passes the ball to the right and Glen passes it into essentially an open goal.
Beautiful creativity.

Always amazes me sides don't do this more. With all free kicks when a wall lines up.jedi_master wrote:Coventry City 0 - 2 Burnley, probably about 2001.

Cork's ball for Ward's goal at Chelsea was as good as it gets. Perfect.
As already mentioned, Cook's indirect free kick at Coventry was genius.

Surely it has to be Neil Grewcock's free kick that was nodded in by Ian Britton.
Most of the other goals mentioned above wouldn't have happened, if not for this goal.

Re: Your favourite Burnley assist
Totally agree. Sometimes 5 or more players make up a 'wall' which essentially hands a great initiative to the attacking team and far too often it is not exploited. I recall fondly when we were renowned nationwide for free kick routines but getting the ball ' up and over' the wall seems to be what most players try to achieve nowadays and not all that successfully.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Always amazes me sides don't do this more. Feb 2014. Home to Forest. Trips trapped in the corner plays the ball against his own left foot, to put the defender on his wrong foot, then crosses with his right for Sam to nod in.

Ian Wright against Oxford Utd away, chasingdown the ball near the corner flag then putting the ball in for Paul Weller to score in the last minute

Re: Your favourite Burnley assist
Your favourite Burnley artist? Noel leaver wasn't bad, but I'll vote for myself. Keith Coventry is the local boy done good but his work is a bit too contrived for my taste.
