Haha, I definitely said 'wow' when we signed Juke and Sordell.
In terms of good surprise, I would say Defour.

Last time I don't know but first time was Frank Casper in summer of 1967. I'd been watching Burnley for nearly seven years and he was the first signing.
I do know the last - has to be Ian Wright.

remember it well...a crucial late goal.
my lasting memory of him was that he had that friday night show on tv but was up at the turf the day after and was on the bench for us cheering the lads on.....wrighty a complete class act on and off the field.....maybe because he was late into the professional game and appreciated what he had.

Gazza caused a stir averaging 8,000 then he signed and we had a crowd of over 20,000 on but he had issues and turned out not so good as it could have been
But yes it has to be Wright for me he did the business for us

We definitely weren't averaging 8k before Gazza signed.Longside4evr wrote:Gazza caused a stir averaging 8,000 then he signed and we had a crowd of over 20,000 on but he had issues and turned out not so good as it could have been

We were top of the Championship a couple of months prior getting 16-18k on each game.

Ian Wright was just unbelievable and so unexpected. Defour and Brady were wow signings but we sort of knew they were happening.
Robbie Blake 2nd time round was the only time I went down to the training ground to see a new signing. My 3 year old at the time was more interested in the tractors and ground machinery for me to go into full on stalker.

Re: When was the last time for you that we signed a player and said WOW ?
Ian Wright is the only one for me too. My then father in law phoned up and asked if I had seen who we had signed. I couldn't guess, he said think Celtic and the penny still didn't drop. Then I put teletext (remember that?) on and it was the main headline on the sports page.
And THAT goal v Notts Co - I had travelled up from London and was sat in the BL stand with a girl I used to work with in the bar. We battered them, went 1-0 up and couldn't get a second. My worst fears materialized when they scored from their one and only chance. Looking like we had thrown 2 points away, then Wrighty got on the end of a pass from Davis and did what Ian Wright does and stuck it away. Also remember the Brentford away, Wright went through 1 on 1 with the keeper and I just thought he will score. It's Ian Wright. I have seen him do it so many times for Arsenal. Sure enough he finished easily, plus 2 more from John Mullin I think. We still almost managed to throw it away, but held on thanks to a couple of cracking saves from Crighton at the end.

Re: When was the last time for you that we signed a player and said WOW ?
I didn't think 'wow' when we signed Andy Cole. If anything, at 35, I thought we'd landed a crock, but I certainly said 'wow' when he played.
It demonstrated the gulf in class. He couldn't get near Sunderlands team in the bottom 6 of the prem yet looked an absolute gem playing for us in the champ.

Gray. 9 million felt like crazy money. Strange how that would be considered a cheap deal just 2 years later with how the transfer market has been inflated.
Re: When was the last time for you that we signed a player and said WOW ?
Steve Davis, Barry Kilby's show of intent. £250k was it? In a car park in Chester, heard it on the radio. Definite 'wow' factor. Then Ian Wright, again on Radio 2, in a hotel in Exeter. Had to check that one.

Not sure about individual players, but I've said wow four times since 2009, thanks to the collective efforts of dozens of non wow players

I was watching last year when the Brady deal was finalised and the camera showed him taking a seat on the Turf during the game.
He looked excited and happy, he had a huge smile on his face and you could see from his body language he was raring to go, I knew then he'd become our greatest ever player.

Gray as it came out of the blue and was a signal of intent.
Then Barton, there were a few stories knocking about but I didn't think he'd come to us.
