Hudds fans saying that if he goes they should look at replacing him with Ings on loan. That would be hard to take if it happened.

Taken from the "If Gray goes, who would you like" thread
And yes. Incredibly 'meh'.IAmAClaret wrote:There are some real 'meh' players available.....
Nahki Wells - Huddersfield will let him go
Jerome Sinclair - Watford (was talked about a lot then went quiet)
Leonardo Ulloa - Leicester
Personally, Afobe ticks a lot of boxes, and is seemingly available, although at a cost.

From Florin Andone to Nahki Wells.
I'm really really struggling with this one.

Re: Nahki Wells
BODen repirting £5m, so as long as we put that into a new CB and a winger then that's fine - that being said, rather have brought someone better in given the fact Wells is going to be issued a 3 year contract

Re: Nahki Wells
He signs tomorrow
Like others have said, we should be looking at quality not a championship striker at best. Hopefully he performs and Dyche prooves us all wrong.

Re: Nahki Wells
Good signing needed someone to play the no.10 role. Good with the ball at his feet, eye for goal and suits the way were looking to play. Not a big name but rather him than waris or andone who could take an age to settle. Wouldn't need to relocate.

That effectively gives us Vokes, Wood, Walters Barnes and now Wells as strikers?
Does this mean the end of Ashley Barnes?

Re: Nahki Wells
£2m up front fee with £2m spread over the next 25 years.
£1m should we win the PL.
£1m should we win the champions league.
£1m if he hits 35 PL goals in a season.
£1m for making 39 premier league appearances in a season.
£1m should Lord Lucan be found riding Shergar.
£1m per England international appearance (yes I'm aware he's Bermudan).
If it's £10 million structured as above, I'm happy. Anything otherwise and we're experiencing karma for Wayne Thomas.

Re: Nahki Wells
I'd be OK with Wells, always saw him as the same sort of forward as Gray, not as much raw pace/power but with a bit more finesse. I think that's the right sort of forward to replace Gray. I'd prefer Gayle but Wells is adequate in giving us a different aspect to the forward line. He'll fit our wage structure better than Gayle too. The fee is what it is, seems like we could weirdly end up paying premium fees to get players that are prepared to fit the wage structure.

Re: Nahki Wells
I would have to say neither is Nahki Wells. One was a 23 goal striker we sold for 18.5m, the other is a guy who got 10 goals and isn't wanted by Huddersfield Town.ClaretTony wrote:Wood is certainly not a replacement for Gray
I just find it incredibly perplexing considering some of the seriously impressive signings we have made in the last 12 months (Defour, Hendrick, Brady, Cork etc) that we are laying down £10m for Wells. Boden says 5, but he didn't even know it was happening so I am far more inclined to believe Nixon on this one.
Mental signing in my opinion, but we have to give him a chance if he is becoming a Claret. Really hope this doesn't signify Barnes going because I would be livid to replace Ash with Wells let alone Gray.

Where has this sense of entitlement come from?
Typical of this forum, writing a player off before we've signed them.

Re: Nahki Wells
The fee is basically irrelevant with the daft numbers going around.
I don't know a lot about him, but presume he has both pace and can play as a supporting striker on either side of a 4-5-1?
It makes a lot more sense if that is the case, though still its safe to say he's not anyone main target.

Re: Nahki Wells
Just give the guy a bloody chance! He is quite clearly going to be backup.Surely we are going to stick with the one up top and that will be wood are vokes. If wells comes in and get's us a couple of late goals off the bench to gain points, then it is job done.
Re: Nahki Wells
I trust Dyche but this is stretching it.
He's not even that quick. Probably only slightly quicker than Wood's if that

I don't think it's too bad a signing, at least it offers some variety in addition to the big lumps.
Dwight Gayle was the Waitrose option, we've gone all Aldi.

Re: Nahki Wells
All the slag offs are writing like he's going into the first team as a starter. He wouldn't but having a goal poacher to come on in certain situations could be a winner. He also has the pace that so many have been crying out for.
Re: Nahki Wells
I have only viewed his youtube highlights. He looks skilful and fast with good positional sense. Should link up well with Vokes or Wood. I am sure that SD thinks he can get more out of him than Huddersfield have.
Definitely a risk but I have a good feeling about this transfer if it goes ahead.

10 goals last season, be difficult to replicate that in a higher division, still out injured and hardly at the improvement age.
27 year old and one last pay day me thinks.
Must be plan H, which means we have exhausted all other avenues.

Re: Nahki Wells
As usual some quite childish reactions on here.
We are clearly no longer in the market for a 1st choice frontline striker having just broken our transfer record on Chris Wood.
What the manager is after is a player who can stretch defences, especially late on in a game when used as a substitute. Wells offers that nip, he's been admired by Dyche and linked with us since the very first transfer window after Dyche was appointed. He's a player who has developed and come from non league, as a late developer, his best year or two might still be ahead of him.
I see him as a forward who has fought for a decent career in the game. Has a good attitude and is a good finisher. He'd be joining a 4-5 man strikeforce (if you include Walters) and definitely offers something different. I'd imagine about £3m up front. Good business in my view.
