Southgates an FA man that's why he got the job ,though he did have an Eng career . It's tepid and uninspiring but not much he can do with a soso bunch of players .Malta are steamingly bad though and will be badly knackered come 70mins . We'll probs cruise it though be funny if we got beat off a team of butchers bakers and taxi drivers

Malta now 500-1 to win. I think that's very generous considering how England are playing

I actually had a couple of quid @ 40s at half/time, but they won't score 2.

As a painter and decorator there's nothing better than a nice cup of tea feet up and admiring your paint job slowly dry out.much better than watching England.

How the **** can a manager who got Boro relegated and got eliminated in all the major U21 tournaments early be manager of the National Team ?
Because he's not going to upset the Establishment.
I personally don't think he's even a half decent manager.

Very, very impressive from England. I didn't think them capable of going away and scoring 4 goals. This will probably give the English fans real optimism that they can go to the World Cup next year and win it.

What's even worse than watching England (if its possible to have anything worse) is listening to the 'pundits' talk about England.

Tonights line up of brain donors - the self styled guv'nor (looked ridiculous in his pimp suit), giggs (my goldfish had more between the ears), wrighty (take them fooqin specs off, they aint fooling anyone) and some other bloke/ ar se licker. Nurse, please give me a morphine injection to numb the indescribable pain. Talk about stating the bleedin obvious:
''yeah, youv gotta earn the right to win these kinda games cos the other team wont just roll over''
''youv gotta run into the spaces behind 'em and pass the ball''
''Engerland always had that extra bit 'a quality cos the Prems the best league in the world''
''youv still gotta put the hard work in and run around a lot''
etc etc etc etc.

It's so bad you've got to watch it to believe it's actually real, if you know what I mean.

Roll on the palace game next week.

UTC.

There was quite a lot of sport on TV last night. I was flicking between the various channels & this is the order of priority I settled on:
Gloucester v Exeter Premiership rugby;
St Helens v Wigan RL;
Southern Vipers v Western Storm women's cricket final
Malta v England = San Marino v Norn footy

If you told me 20 years ago I'd get to a point when I'd prefer both codes of rugby + women's cricket to watching England's footy team, I wouldn't have believed it.

I thought it was bad with Hodgson in charge but Southgate is taking England to new levels.

I still can't get my head round the fact that he was no under consideration for the job when Hodgson went but one game later he's in to replace Allardyce.

I know we don't have the best players in the world but we should be far, far better than what we are showing right now. That was appalling last night and I hope no one is fooled by the three goals in the last few minutes.

It was Rashford v Malta really.

The ghost of Iceland is still ever present.

Hart- lucky he didn't have anything to do-otherwise he may not have done it acceptably
Jones- looked seriously overweight and dangerously close to a coronary event
Alli - looked disinterested and eager to get out of there....?sunstroke
Sterling - what is wrong with this lad- misses an early chance then goes to pieces- is he the footballing definition of a Snowflake?
Henderson- trying hard to be Gerrard but failing- a dirth of incisive, forward looking passes.
Kane- I know it's now September but is this guy really our top striker?

We may as well not bother next year if it's going to be this uninspiring-
I hope we lose the next match, Gareth goes and Hoddle comes back.

But that's me.

I thought Kane made some good runs and his touch and movements for his goals I think were very good. But I agree with the majority of the rest. Players such as Jones and Hendersen just don't excite me.

Is there anybody genuinely surprised by another dire performance? REALLY??? The last Euros were an utter disgrace and has anything changed? An absolute puppet `in charge` of a bunch of bubble-brain brats who he no doubt calls "Harto" and "Walks" and "Hendo". I thankfully live 8 hours ahead (well, you know what I mean) so any night game is off-limits. I watched the highlights 30 minutes and honestly wanted Malta to win. I think the only way I would want England to win now is if a Burnley/ex-Burnley player was actively involved. VERY sad but the reality with a bunch of overpaid, overrated primadonnas (sp?) in the National shirt.

That was really poor. England's best v some who played at conference level in England.

The only excuse Id give them is the heat, no idea how they play football in this temp even at night. How are the players (and fans) going to survive in the Qatar :?

We constantly blame the manager not the players, I genuinely think the the last 3 or 4 managers have tried to be their mates, and it's not working.
Time for a rethink get a manager in that's the boss, any player that doesn't like it don't play them, don't treat them like a set of superstars, because they definitely aren't for England.

Yes, and that also worked wonderfully, I thought his problem was falling into Gerrard and lampard trap, the thought that he had to play the both of them even though they never played well together.

This has to be the worst England team since the days of Carlton Palmer. Not helped by a manager who seems devoid of imagination and falling into the old trap of picking his mates and not players in form. 4 defenders and 2 holding midfielders against Malta? Hart, Livermore, Oxlade-Chaimbrlain, Chalobah, Sterling, Henderson, Lingard, Smalling.....?
