It can't be that can it? If that was the case why not Arfield or the players from the Republic.
On another note our 24 includes Ulvestad who we were trying to move on - so seems unlikely he'll feature.

Re: 25 man squad named
I think it's something from a youth age. For instance I'm pretty sure that Fabregas and Flamini are both classed as home grown played from their early days at Arsenal.EarbyClaret wrote:"Been in the country longer than 5 years so classes as home grown i think"

Thanks Reecey, well I never fancy me missing that.

Because he didn't come through an English academy.colne-claret wrote:Why is Arfield not home grown?

The strange one for me was when Danny Ings wasn't classed as home grown three seasons ago. Looks like he is now though, for some strange reason. Not sure how it could've changed.
Quite a few clubs with smaller squads than ours I see, including Chelsea, City and Spurs.

Re: 25 man squad named
Chelsea have only named 21 players, I can imagine their messageboards right now...
'Get lumped on as we must be dead certs for relegation'.
'Abromovich OUT'
'Conte OUT'
'Where is the scouting system'?
'FFS all that money and we can't even assemble a squad'.
'Where is the replacement for ....'?

Re: 25 man squad named
European competitions rules are a bit different it's 4 trained at your own club and 4 from your own nation.
So that's why some of the bigger clubs just haven't named enough, they have no players actually over 21 that came from their own academies anymore. There's little point signing 4 extra players that are limited only to play in the league.
Doesn't stop them playing youngsters though.

Re: 25 man squad named
Also worth noting if you haven't named a full 25 you can still sign anyone who isn't signed on elsewhere. For example if Joey Barton's ban was suddenly cancelled and he was allowed to play again then we could sign him and add him to our 25.

We must be expecting Marney to be fit before January to have him in the squad

Not necessarily, but if you don't name him, you can't play him.mdd2 wrote:We must be expecting Marney to be fit before January to have him in the squad

Re: 25 man squad named
He's been with English clubs from the age of 16. To be considered home grown you need to have been with English clubs for at least years up to the age of 21. You are only permitted 17 players in your squad who are not home grown.Im_not_Robbie_Blake wrote:How is Chris Wood 'home grown'?
Our non home grown players are therefore:
Scott Arfield
Steven Defour
Johann Berg Gudmundsson
Fredrik Ulvestad
Nahki Wells
I didn't quite understand Kevin Long as being considered home grown. He arrived at Burnley in Jan 2010 when he was 19. I can only assume it considered seasons or parts of so it would include the 2009/10 & 2010/11 season as two and then the 2011/12 season because he was born after 1st August 1990 (born on 18th August 1990).

It can't have changed given the rules. I can only assume it was an error when he was listed as not being home grown three years ago.Tall Paul wrote:The strange one for me was when Danny Ings wasn't classed as home grown three seasons ago. Re: 25 man squad named
There's actually a subtle difference in the actual rules. There is no requirement to have 8 homegrown players, the rule actually states that you can have no more than 17 players that do not fulfil the homegrown criteria and the rest, up to a maximum of 25, must be home grown. It is therefore possible, for example, to have a squad of 21 with just 4 homegrown playersReecey1987 wrote:This explains it

Re: 25 man squad named
Danny Ings wouldn't have needed to be listed as homegrown or not 3 years ago if he met the criteria for u21 that year.
To clarify the rules on homegrown. An HGP means a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21).

Re: 25 man squad named
The question TallPaul was asking was how Danny Ings at the age of 22 was not considered home grown but is now at the age of 25.Formerbfcmanager wrote:Danny Ings wouldn't have needed to be listed as homegrown or not 3 years ago if he met the criteria for u21 that year.

Indeed you did CT. I was just making the distinction that there is no requirement to have any HGPs, contrary to popular belief that you must have 8ClaretTony wrote:As per my post (25) - no more than 17
Re: 25 man squad named
Ings was part of our 25 man PL squad that season, but wasn't included as a homegrown player. I seem to remember it being questioned at the time and the answer given was that he'd not been in an English academy for long enough.Formerbfcmanager wrote:Danny Ings wouldn't have needed to be listed as homegrown or not 3 years ago if he met the criteria for u21 that year.

Dean Marney
Given that we have him in our squad of 24/25 anyone know how he is progressing and how soon he will be training and back in some kind of games as he tries to get back to full fitness?
Re: Dean Marney
I met Dean at the Irish training camp
And he said his recovery was going great
But dident expect to be fit to play until the new year.

"Felix Junior Stanislas" ....gotta be the only player with the first name Felix who has played for us surely?
Shame we didn't know this as the chant of "Felix....Felix Stanislas goes down the wing for me" would have been epic!
