New Building at Mitre Traffic Lights
New Building at Mitre Traffic Lights
Anyone know what it will be? It intrigues me every time. The boards outside it just seem generic.

Re: New Building at Mitre Traffic Lights
I think its supposed to be one of those drop in centres like "The Zone" in Nelson that helps the homeless and the like. Anything has got to be better than the eyesore that the derelict Mitre was

Hope it's better used than that expensive red herring on Trafalgar Street.

You're perfectly correct m'Lord, I just don't know what I was thinking. Not only the wrongLord Beamish wrote:Red Herring? Surely you mean White Elephant?
colour but also the wrong animal/fish - how can I make up for this disgraceful error ?
Forelock dutifully tugged.

PS I still think that it's a criminal waste of public funds.

Re: New Building at Mitre Traffic Lights
It hasn't been a boozer for about two decades. The more worrying matter is that the replacement building is an absolute shocker. This hardly screams "Welcome to Burnley".nonayclaret wrote:yes, afraid so..another boozer bites the dust
Re: New Building at Mitre Traffic Lights
That is awful. I remember the area before Trafalgar Flats were built, I remember the excitement about 'skyscrapers' being built there and a bit later collecting beer mats in the pub. It should have been cast in bronze or something like that, rather than the faceless 'anywhere' image above.
Re: New Building at Mitre Traffic Lights
Surely it will look better than the derelict Mitre which just looked terrible and needed knocking down ages ago.

It's a massive improvement and so is the Plane Tree conversion into apartments.

A soulless, drab and featureless one type fits all monstrosity that will look grubby in no time.
Demolition and replacement due in the next ten to fifteen years.

Ralph, I was thinking more along the lines of a bronze statue of Andy Payton menacingly holding a golf club.

Am I right in thinking they found the skeleton of a baby stuffed up the chimney in the Mitre?

Yes but a few years when first closed as a pub.
