Sunday Morning Door Knockers
Sunday Morning Door Knockers
There was an interesting discussion on radio about a lady who left the Jehovah's Witnesses and was shunned and disowned by her entire family and former friends who were all members. A very sad story and she had left because her young child had needed a blood transfusion. I cannot believe anyone can let a child die in such circumstances. They get short thrift from me if they knock on my door.

I just saw the word 'Knockers' to be fair. Huge disappointment!

Not every day but it's topical and interesting to see different viewpoints.
Re: Sunday Morning Door Knockers
When my dad was alive and lived close to a Jehovah Witness Hall, nearly every Sunday the new recruits were sent out to spread the word. They would knock on his door on a regular basis. As much as he chastised them, they kept coming to his door, often with new bible bashes.
One Sunday morning my dad barged the church doors open in the middle of the service and walked down the aisle. He shouted
" right you buggers you know where I live and you upset my Sunday morning all the time, so I thought I would do to the same to you. If you knock on my door anymore I will keep coming back and upsetting you".
They don't come to my house, as I told them to put it into their book, not to visit. I've told them, even females to F Off at my door and when they said "What", my reply was "what part of F Off don't you understand".
I hate them as much as the Bstds.

Re: Sunday Morning Door Knockers
I find them as mildly irritating when they do call, which is not often. But I am often surprised by how many people I know quite well who actually turn out to be 'witnesses'. I would find it hard to say I hate them and always remember that people of this religion were murdered, along with Jews, by the Nazi's. A little toleration for other people's religions is a price we pay for freedom.

I don't hate them but i don't understand them. Instead of knocking on people's doors or standing in Nelson centre every Friday with leaflets being ignored by everyone, go and do the Lord's work. Feed the poor, clothe the needy and give hope to the desperate.

Re: Sunday Morning Door Knockers
Was walking back from shopping the other week and spotted one walking towards us. Let's face it, you can spot one at a thousand paces. My fiancee is foreign so she is a bit less savvy. He walked closer as the path grew narrower. I tried to save her soul, I tried to pull her way, I pleaded 'Noooooooooo' but alas he placed an edition of Watchtower in her hand.
She'll learn.

I knew someone who had Jehovah's Witnesses knock at the door, so he invited them in. He made them a cup of tea, got out the biscuits, and said "What do you want to talk to me about." There was a silence - they looked at each other - and one said "we don't know, we've never got this far before."

There is also a misleading point to the OP's point. They tend to hunt in packs and usually the day they don't knock is, ironically; Sunday. Namely because, well; they're busy. I just don't don't answer the door. It saves so much hassle.

Not had them in years, thankfully, but they usually respond politely and leave when you tell them that you have your own GOD.
I had my own GOD once, but he left one day and hasn't returned since.

I was door knocking for my local MP. Knocked on the door of a Witness.
Half an hour later I had delivered 1 leaflet and came away with 2

Some good jokes but this is a serious topic. I have personal experience of the JWs and in my opinion it is brainwashing pure and simple, and the effects it has on children amounts to nothing less than serious child abuse. They are an absolute disgrace.

I am not a JW and never have been but I always make them welcome when they knock on my door and have never had any kind of problem. Indeed they often do not even try to promote me to 'sign up' to them. Whatever your feelings about them, and 'hate' is an awful word, they are committed to their faith and this has an appeal for many people , hence they are worldwide and have many hundreds of thousands of adherents.
I thought religious topics were 'no go' on this site and so it should be because all that happens is that vindictive comments are posted and Christianity has become the only 'safe bet' for ridicule on here. I am old enough to remember when racist comments and so-called jokes involving blatant racism were not uncommon on here. I also remember when every single player of every other team that Burnley were playing was labelled a 'puff.'
Thankfully those days are gone but for those who cannot resist offending others there is one last group that it is OK to insult with blasphemy and profanity and that is any claret supporter who practices a Christian faith.

Re: Sunday Morning Door Knockers
Was speaking only last week to someone about a local JW who was told he had to ditch his girlfriend because she wasn't one of them. He's a lad in his late teens but when he didn't do as he was told he was shunted by his parents to another part of the country.
A young girl, no older than 9 or 10, came to my door one day. Her mum was banging on the door next door but one at the time. Absolutely ridiculous sending kids like that. I told them I'd take legal action if they ever came again. They must have 'awkward b@st@rd' against my address now. I've seen them many times since but they always give me a miss. I've no time for them. Whatever they are or they aren't, whatever their beliefs, right or wrong, I don't want religion being shoved at me on my own doorstep.

I always give door knockers the politeness and courtesy that I would afford to any human being.
There is no sense in being rude and hostile to folk just because they are trying to promote a cause.
For me its a case of Thanks, but no thanks.
I entertain kids who do knock a door run though, at least both parties get some form enjoyment out of it

There is mention of the word 'puff' above. Started by Holycustard and continued on the match day thread until someone decided it was sexist and complained. So it was instantly stopped. HOWEVER, any regular knew that it was just a dismissive word for an opponent the Mighty Clarets were going to blow away. Powder puff when compared to a Claret. Easy to describe them in a don't count way. Substitute- puff off, puff on. Who cares? Nothing sexist at all. Nonetheless, there was offence taken and it was stopped.
Back to JWs. My Secretary was a JW. When I recruited new folk, she would say "Did that one pass?" If yes, she told me I was alright for Christmas cover! She left them years later and told me she and her husband had been ostracized. Odd when they knock everyone else's door to convert them but don't try to get born again JWs!

Would claret tony allow this thread or comment in such a distasteful way if it was equally critical of muslims, hindus, jews, homosexuals, transgender, afro americans, pakistanis or showed ANY other race, religion, creed, colour etc such disrespect?
I think not.
I went to primary school with a lot of Jehovas Witnesses. And apart from them being excused from assembley there was nothing different about them at all. I work with some too.
They have their beliefs others have theirs. Whats wrong with a bit of tolerance?

Re: Sunday Morning Door Knockers
I have no issue with JWs, but do question their logic over their view on blood transfusions.
The bible, in particular the old testament does command people not to eat flash with blood still in it. There are 2 schools of though on this, one is this is because blood is seen as sacred as a giver of life and we should respect the animal etc from which it came. However blood transfusions are not eating it and what could be more sacred than one human giving life to another via a blood donation?
The other school of thought about the old testament instructions on what to eat and how to eat it mostly derive from basic food hygiene instructions, ie cook your meat well.
I think it is tragic that people may be dying in the 21st century based on this logic.

Margaret, the lady that lives at the bottom of our road, is in charge of the Neighbourhood Watch. When the Jovos come to our street they invariably come to her house first. She then sends a round-robin email to the other 15 households on the street. They tend to get about as far as the next house and then mysteriously find that nobody is in.

Just laughed at the training centre pic.
Reminded me of a story my secretary told me about her husband Angus. He started a new job knocking doors to try and sell gas/electric swaps to people, when the market was freed up. At the end of the day, all the new folk would return to base and tell the bosses about their experiences. They all said how it was awful and people didn't want to to to them for long or at all. Angus said he found it refreshing that people opened their door and talked to him at all! He made lots of sales because he was so excited to get to chat to anyone!

There only appears to be one comment on this thread that could be considered unacceptable and that is 'Bfc' saying that he hates JW's. Everybody else is either just giving accounts of their own experiences with JW's or making harmless jokes about the religion. There is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't have discussion or lighthearted fun on this topic, and I imagine if you complain about 'Bfc's post then it will probably be removed.Joe14 wrote:Funny how religious threads generally get locked yet Tony is allowing this to continue!! Can't talk about Muslims in a derogatory way. That's racist. But go ahead----- slag JW's off left right and centre.
I thought we'd moved on. Moved with the times. Absolute Joke!!!
