I guess we'll see what Pope is made of in his first two games against Liverpool at Anfield then Leeds a week today in a match they'll be well up for.
Just feel sorry for Heaton. Probably going to miss out on Russia now.

Will Pope play against Leeds?
We usually play the "second keeper" in cup games so we may be seeing Legzdins

Even with one arm in a sling, Heaton should start ahead of Hart.

Re: Heaton
Nick Pope is a very capable keeper and performed well on Sunday - what will be missing in the coming months is Heatons leadership and vocals - leading from the back has been so important to Burnley. Tarks or Mee would be my choice to take over the captaincy.

At the moment it's a bit irrelevant as to the length of time Tom Heaton will be out.
We know it's going to be a few weeks at the very least and that Pope is going to play for the foreseeable future.

best thing to do is to keep quiet until the club pass comment ...
a) Those that don't know anything for sure are merely speculating
b) Those that do know "something" are risking their own or somebody else's job/future by discussing or even hinting at confidential medical
information on an open forum
so wait.

Re: Heaton
I get the impression Ben IS the captain on the pitch. Once or twice he has spoken (calmly) with the ref about an incident not concerning him and the ref has listened to him. Just my impression.

Re: Heaton
I think Ben Mee is used by the ref should he need to speak to someone further up the pitch but Tom is very much the captain when he's out there.ecc wrote:I get the impression Ben IS the captain on the pitch. Ben took the armband in the second half last Sunday and I expect him to take over until Tom is back.

Re: Heaton
It will be strange not hearing Tim Heatons voice from the jimmy mac goals when im sat in the cfs. We will miss that big time. Maybe get him to sit behind popes nets on the jml shouting 'gerrrup'... and then switch sides at half time.

I used to play rugby with a guy who dislocated his shoulder every game he played. He just popped it back in, and got on with it. Then again, he was Canadian..........

Heaton's had surgery
On his dislocated shoulder. This is as bad as expected, if not worse.

He can't be too shabby after having a couple of years training with some of England's finest goalkeepers... but in the Premier League with no experience, that's going to worry me.

His Premier League record is better than Heaton's. I think Tom may struggle to win the jersey back.starting_11 wrote:He can't be too shabby after having a couple of years training with some of England's finest goalkeepers... but in the Premier League with no experience, that's going to worry me.

If he isn't good enough he wouldn't have been on our bench. He may not be at the same level or had the recognition Tom has attracted but he has looked more than capable every time he has played.

Bad news Heaton always likely to get us a few extra points alone with his ability. Let's hope Pope can do the same.

I think Pope may turn out to be a real Gem. Watching his positioning and the speed he reacted to the danger when Palace got through last week was very impressive

Re: Heaton's had surgery
Surgery isn't necessarily a bad thing in terms of time to recover. It may have been that the choice was to recover naturally without or to have surgery to speed up the process. Very different in professional sport to your average Joe I'm sure.

Re: Heaton
A few nationals are saying 4 months and won't be back until back end of January
Re: Heaton
12-16 weeks usually IF an operation is needed.
As Mr Dyche alluded to, he will not be rushed back, and we will make sure he is 110% fit and ready. A Goalkeepers shoulder goes through far more of a rigorous test in both training and games, say more than a forward.
Hopefully it will be more 12 than 16 though if that is the timescale.
