Holiday illness compensation claim

Sorry for non footy thread but just needed a bit of guidance if anyone can help. My partner's daughter recently suffered a bout of tummy trouble whilst on holiday in Dominican Republic recently. She was confined to bed for 5 days and 2 of those were spent in hospital on a drip. We suspect it was food poisoning caused by poor hygiene and the open buffet style restaurant at our hotel (the hotel apparently has a past history of such issues) . My partner has booked an appointment at Walkers in Waterfoot as they are listed as able to deal with such claims. We live in Burnley and I wondered if anyone has recent positive experience of any alternative claims firms or Solicitors particularly if they are in Burnley. I am very sceptical of all such claims and the firms involved and just want straightforward guidance. Any suggestions would be welcome. UTC

I've no experience personally, but in light of the recent events in the news where holiday firms are taking extra care with these sorts of claims your family will need to make sure they've got any and all documentation proving they stayed in hospital for treatment etc.
Its a bit of a minefield at present due to false holiday illness claims being the new thing these last few years.

Wouldn't go on an all inclusive to the Dominica Republic for a gold clock. Standard to get food poizen out there.

Sorry, absolute rubbish. I've been AlI inclusive in the Maldives, St. Lucia, europe etc. and the best food and standards I've ever experienced was this May in the Dom Rep - it was outstanding, cleanliness, hygiene and control of insects and pests was second to non. I'm sure there are dodgy places out there, just as anywhere, but try going somewhere first before criticising.

I was on an all inclusive in Barbados last December, the food was fantastic! Going to St Lucia this December and I'm expecting the same.
As a side note, we called at Dominica for a day as part of the cruise, it's a lovely island but has now been all but destroyed by the latest hurricane, I'm gutted for them, the people are so friendly.

Same here. All inclusive in Dominican was brilliant no complaints about food or upset stomach.

Why do people always assume it's food poisoning and blame the hotel. You can catch viruses of door handles, handrails, swimming pools etc.

Answer: because they see a chance for a claim and easy money which results in more expensive insurance for the rest of us. Nobody is allowed to get ill or upset stomachs any more unless someone else is to blame because of the modern compensation culture.

It's a very sad world we live in these days.

I think what Sidney is highlighting further up is a good point. Went to Tenerife earlier this year, and was told on the bus that there are people canvassing you in the street, basically begging you to make a claim for illness. It's rife. The top firms are all over it though, and I read somewhere about a couple who made a fraudulent claim, and they found out because of social media pictures and posts at the time, and the hotel then sued them for harm to their business.

If it's valid though, which I'm sure it is, make sure you have all the proof necessary - hotel records, bills, receipts, social media posts perhaps, pictures etc.

This....we are currently in Greece (Corfu) and on Sunday my MIL was sick, yesterday I was sick as a bloody dog and today my wife is sick...we are not all-inclusive so it can't be that! Too many people jump on the blame wagon...just look at the couple from Liverpool where the hotel counter-sued....dodgy game they are playing...

In Kenya we few Brits at the Hotel had an 'Immodium' Club going as it was accepted you would suffer from a stomach bug at some point during your holiday. We all did, we all told each other and we all laughed about it!

I did once contact a solicitor after a holiday in Turkey.
My problems started on the flight home!
So the good old NHS had to diagnose and treat me.
Compensation was a 'no-goer' for me because I had booked with Travel Republic.
They along with others like Alpharooms issue 3 separate contracts, i.e. flight, transfer and Accommodation.
The solicitor I spoke to stated it has to be a 'package holiday' i.e. a single contract company.

Can you not just put it down to a bad experience?
If you make a successful claim will you be going on a 5 day holiday to the Dominican to make up for 5 lost days or will you be spending your winnings, sorry compensation on a car, kitchen, house extension etc? Just curious.
