Re: BBC radio lancs
Absolute disgrace of a so called local football preview.
An hour long show with 7 East lancs teams.
And I'd say that each week Blackburn get an absolute minimum of , usually , the first 25 minutes.
The bias for Blackburn is appalling. Last season when Preston were doing far better they still concentrated in their beloved.
As for coverage of The Clarets? It's what stopped me listening yonks ago.

Your right ringo, 6.20pm we are goin to concentrate on league 1 for the half hour he said. We will probably get last 5 mins of the show.

The only reason they're doing Burnley last is because we play last this weekend, we're usually first on the Friday night show.

Can't see what playing Sunday has owt to do with it.
There's always an excuse to not talk about us and a really important reason to cover Blackburn.
Like I say, stopped yonks ago. Johnny Vaughans on radio x at the same time. No brainer......

Re: BBC radio lancs
WYS Daily plays out on BBC Radio Leeds each night at 6pm. It's a first-class production, which gives equal weighting to Leeds, Huddersfield and Bradford. They also give a decent amount of airtime to Guiseley, Halifax and Park Avenue. It puts Radio Lancs to shame.
Re: BBC radio lancs
@ the end of the day every week the show should be done in pecking order of the league status, you never hear five live start their Friday night preview with the bottom teams on first so why do radio lancs go against the grain!

Cos Blackburn are no longer in the prem!
They'll try to deny it but it's true. A couple of years I was p***** off with the coverage (lack of!!!!) of ALL the other Lancashire clubs. Not just Burnley. I contacted them.
The answer I got was they simply give the team in the premier league more profile. I remember us, PNE and Blackpool sharing he last 10 minutes after the previous 50 had been devoted to their blue n white obsession.
Now times have changed the formula for who gets covered as also changed.
Nice one.
Blatantly biased and amateurish to boot!

It's always a pleasure to drive away from Turf Moor down the M65 after another strong Premier League home display only to have to listen to extended coverage of Morecambe's narrow defeat at Wycombe , Accrington's fightback at Barnet, Blackpool's home point v Rochdale and , of course, the Barstewards latest drossfest. Usually by the time I've reached the outskirts of Wigan on the M6 I'll get to hear Sean Dyche.

Re: BBC radio lancs
A couple of seasons back I had to work weekends for a few months.
I had the misfortune to listen to the live match day coverage.
When they were covering Burnley away they'd go over to Ewood 5 or 6 times each half.
When they were covering Blackburn away, they'd go to the Turf once each half.
Gave up eventually and tuned into talk sport. You genuinely had more chance of an update on a national than local radio station. And one that boasts its "the station for the Clarets"
My @rse it is.

Seriously, are any of us surprised or bothered ? It's Radio Blackburrrrrrrrrn, always has been, always will.
I honestly cant remember who the commentator used to be, but when they went to him, it was unbelievably bad:
'welcome to Ewood, and what a setting this is, the crowds are milling in their thousands down Darwen road, you can cut the atmosphere with a knife, there will be lots of people locked out tonight, this is the home of the roverrrrrrrs, one of the great names of English football, blah, blah, blah'.
Talk about deluded self importance. Mind you, that just about sums up the majority of their (now strangely quiet) supporters.
Just fo ok off you sad bas turds.

I have to say I never really noticed the bias that everyone talked about when listening to Radio Lancs. That said I moved away when I was 19 (45 now) and have only listened to it fleetingly since so maybe I have just (luckily) missed the bad of the station.

The national footballing media has given the Dyche to Everton the attention it deserves. So you'd expect Radio Lancashire to put it top of the running order on the Friday night soccer preview.
No!
There covering a potential take over at Morecambe!
It starts at 6 and they're still covering it as I type at 20 past.

Interesting to see that they haven't improved from the 80's when I still lived in the area. They were shockingly biased then and everyone knew it. They even devoted an entire show to denying that there was an anti Burnley bias which I think spoke volumes.
I preferred to listen to Red Rose Radio who despite being based in Preston were much more balanced.
Out of interest are Red Rose still broadcasting?

Why shouldn’t the local radio station concentrate on local teams in the lower divisions?? What do you want them to talk about? Clubs may or maybe not being interested in our manager??!
Now I can honestly say I don’t listen to them anymore because there’s that much about us on the terrestrial and Sky etc.

Re: BBC radio lancs
To be truthful I kind of expect the lower clubs to get most airtime. We are in the top flight and have coverage in many more places. If it was reversed I would expect the same although I know it didnt work like that in the past.
Not in the know but clubs lower down surely have better links and utilise local stations more as there form of promoting the club. We have bigger media partners and they will always come first with interviews and information and the like with the far reaching benefits to the clubs. We will be wanting to crack the asian market....not a chinese chipshop in east lancs with radio lancs on in the background

Got to agree with you on this. I remember our first home game after the Orient game, v Rochdale. For some reason Jack Holden was at Turf Moor. He belittled is at every opportunity. One I remember was when he was asked by the studio what the crowd was like. Holden replied that it was a good turn out, possibley as many as 3,000. The actual attendance was 7,500. He was clueless when it came to anything Burnley.Herts Clarets wrote:Jack Holden was as pro Rovers and anti Burnley as they come. The epitome of Radio Rovers in the 80s and 90s. I stopped listening to Radio Blackburn due to the fact that on the drive home to Rammy, all you’d hear was Gary Hickson* telling us what was coming up, rather than actually getting on with it. I’d be back in the cricket club in Rammy and Burnley wouldn’t have been mentioned, except for the score.

Don't get wound up over 'the media'. Just like their mates in the Papers, they'll have their agendas.
Just as you don't expect "Jeremy for PM" from The Daily Telegraph and "Teresa May gets it right" from The Mirror, don't expect objective reporting from a bunch of second rate reporters and presenters who were brought up on "Uncle Jack is God", "The Tangerine Army", and "Tom Finney walks on water". Remind me, when did Preston Both Ends last win something? 3rd Division 17 years ago?
If I tune it, it's for a soundbite of "Mr Personality" Gary Bowyer. God, is he boring?!
Jealousy causes their blinkered approach to Burnley. Let 'em crack on.
Want objective insights into the Clarets, log on to this forum and feast on the drivel that's served up here... especially after a defeat

Re: BBC radio lancs
Except for a period of 2BR I have had to listen to this biased "Radio Blackburn" station since its inception.
Paul Weller was very good and factual so he disappeared. Our main reporter is taken off to report cricket and we are left with any old dross they can find.
The stations top people , and presumably top paid, cover Blackburn ( with a Scottish sidekick who is difficult to understand) sometimes Preston but never Burnley.
Since we achieved PL we are treated to such gems as " this is the worst PL season ever" though they do not go to any matches , and "Blackburn have had a great transfer window" though simple results prove otherwise.

Hey I'm totally relaxed about it. I was in a mates car and he put it on the radio. I was obliged to listen to it. But I'll say one thing. If Blackburn were in the prem and there was massive attention on their manager during the week. They'd have at least given it the FIRST 30 minutes of an hour long show. If not actually broadcast an hour long phone in special!Winstonswhite wrote:I for one relied on radio lancs when I was growing up to give me interviews and information that I’d never get off national tv or radio.

Re: BBC radio lancs
Although I haven't listened to Radio Lancs for a while I always used to think that it's sport coverage was really good for a local station. Their commentaries on the game where always good especially if it was Scott Read and/or Chris Boden. Always gave a good insight I thought. Scott Read now does a lot of the cricket and this, as well, is really good.
I've never really understood the anger towards Radio Lancs - particularly when you consider that they are probably operating off a ridiculously low budget.
However, away from sport the content is terrible. But, it probably isn't aimed at someone like me.
