Maybe it's the same clown who was stood behind me this afternoon and spent most of the second half slating Arfield. You just cannot please some people.

I think claret spice has excellently summed things up. A truly excellent afternoon out.

Excellent team performance. Defending well, restricting Everton to mostly speculative attempts yet at the same time offering a threat in their final third

Pope 7 - confident
Lowton 8 - great blocking
Tarkowski (mom) 9 - Gandalf-esque
Mee 9 - also imperious
Ward 9 - massive threat
Brady 7 - couple of hairy moments but some great play too
Arfield 8 - hard working, and not without skill
Defour 8 - quietly going about business
Cork 7 - worked hard but occasionally caught.
Hendrick 7 - huge improvement. More like the Jeff we've cpme to know
Wood 8 - tireless and unselfish and terrorised Williams

Pope - 8 dealt with everything well, flapped on one occasion.
Lowton - 7 worked very hard.
Mee - 8 won every header, one mistake early on with Calvert Leonard but recovered.
Tarkowski - 9* phenomenal in all aspects. As good as Keane was for us in his prime.
Ward - 8 superb running the channels and supporting midfield. True marauding fill back and for me, player of the season at this stage.
Hendrick - 8 didn't make himself as available as Cork or Defour but was involved in a lot of good play. Took goal brilliantly.
Cork - 8 a cross between Marney and Jones. Confident on the ball and tireless energy.
Defour - 8 classy as always. A joy to watch
Arfield - 8 involved in a lot of our action going forward.
Brady - 9 wonderful. Leighton Baines will be having nightmares for weeks. That pass.
Wood - 8 linked up well but couldn't make it stick.a useful outlet.

Barnes - 7 did his job brilliantly

I don't think it's very easy to give any player a 10 but Tarks has to get one today. Outstanding performance. Extremely ably backed up by every other player.

Pope 7- Surprisingly little to cope with, thanks to the defence in front of him, when called on dealt efficiently enough, used his head literally in one case.
Lowton 8- Consistent again
Tarks9- Becoming an accomplished Premier League defender
Mee 9- As above
Ward 8- Taylor may have to bide his time
Brady7- Much better today
Arfield 8- Showed again how under-rated he is,unlucky with the pen as well, would have been soft but on another day may have been awarded.
Defour8- Oozed class once more
Cork 8- Much of his work goes unnoticed, great work rate and tracking back especially in the last half-hour when Everton were dominating the ball.
Hendrick 8-Took his goal brilliantly, looked more confident.
Wood 8-Willing to show and make runs, win fouls and do a lot of donkey work, epitomised the team work ethic.

9 for the whole team, simply because it's a "team" performance.

Pope - 8 confident coming out and the header showed that.
Lowton - 8 clearance at the end saved us.
Tarkowski - 9 proper rock
Mee - 7.5 shakey at the start and was targeted as the weaker link, tough with the pace of their strikers but grew well later in the game.
Ward - 9 had the freedom of the wing in the first half, not so much in the second but never stopped running
Brady - 7
Cork - 8 Brilliant again, what a signing
Defour - 8 class again
Hendrick - 8
Arfield - 8 never stops and some improvement on his final ball
Wood - 8 A very well rounded performance, made Williams struggle all game

Pope 8 - a couple of dodgy kicks early on but other that that excellent goalkeeping.

Lowton 7 - quiet in the 1st half but more involved in the 2nd. Brady`s lack of involvement didn`t help him.
Tarkowski 10 - MOM - an incredible performance. EVERYTHING you want from a centre-half.
Mee 8 - worried me early on but excellent in the 2nd.
Ward 9 - Taylor will be waiting a long time on this form. Always showed for the ball and drove forward.

Brady ummmm... 7 - that includes an extra point for the superb crossfield ball for our goal. Thought, other than that, he did very little of note.
Cork 9 - fits like a glove into the system.
Defour 8 - always involved defensively and going forward. A little worried after the Pope collision.
Arfield 8 - a very good performance. Lots of energy and helped out defensively after switching sides in the 2nd. Deserves his place (and I wasn`t a fan)

Hendrick 8 - an extra point for the goal. There IS more to come from him but he does fade from games (in my opinion) and when that happens, the midfield becomes a little stretched.

Wood 7 - thought his isolation up top showed today but he will take it for the team and keep getting into positions.

WONDERFUL STUFF

I've upgraded my marks on Pope and Wood accordingly. Nobody deserved a 6. It was testament to how well we played as a team that Pope had virtually nothing to do. Marked upto a 7 though for the team effort. Wood likewise, did the nuts and bolts really well and a super clearance in the second half.

Pope 8 - Kicks and catches well
Lowton 8 good
Tarkowski 9 - Made the grade
Mee 9 MOM
Ward 9 - 1 for penetration!
Arfield 8 good
Cork 8 Very good defensively 9 but a bit loose with possession 7 = 8
Defour 9 - I'm in love
Hendrick 8 1 for goal
Brady 8 1 For Long Ball
Wood 9 - Full Shift

Pope 8 - He's slotted into Heatons gloves seamlessly. Epitomises the spirit within this group.
Lowton 8 - He's getting better and better. One wasted cross is the only hair to split really.
Mee 8 - Not as busy as Tarks.
Tarkowski 9 - It's all been said already. This lad Sat on our bench for 18 months which shows just how far we've come.
Ward 9 - Along with Heaton our most consistent player since he got the nod at left back. I still question why that change took so long as it allowed us to play Mee in his rightful position. We'd been crying out for it. All's well that ends well though. Exemplary performance yesterday.
Brady 7 - Another insane pass leads to a priceless goal. Still not imposing himself as consistently as I'd like but his quality adds another dimension to our play and he doubtless wins us points. A very important cog in this machine.
Defour 8 - Was terrified when he went down injured. Oozes class and clearly got his head down and worked hard to prove himself here - that character was the only doubt levelled against him and he's put it to bed comprehensively. Couldn't be more impressed with him.
Cork 8 - He shields the back 4 so well and rarely loses possession. Doesn't lack quality and can pick out a lovely forward pass too. He was quality when he left us previously, he's the finished product now. An England call up can't be for away.
Arfield 7 - Looks a real force when behind the forward at the moment and got into those positions as he and Jeff mixed it up. When out wide he's a bit more pragmatic but no less important.
Hendrick 7 - Don't think he's all the way back up to pace yet but he and Scotty had some sort of telepathy going on yesterday which gave us another dimension. Solves a selection dilemma for Dyche if that fluidity wasn't a one off because this option gives us great potential to mix it up during a game. Scored the winner too which should do him a world of good. YES Jeff!
Wood 7 - Led the line well. Could impose himself a bit more in the challenge at times but full of selflessness and no lack of threat running in behind and taking up useful positions.

Dyche 10 - A masterclass. Did a job on em. Controlled the game and only shame was not notching a second in that first half to make it a bit more comfortable. That we didn't do that made the composure we showed in the second half even more impressive.

viewed from a hot tub in the canaries:

pope - 8 no real testing saves to make but it was his claiming of the ball and command of the 6 yard box under pressure which impressed

lowton - 7 exposed a couple of times down his flank, did brilliantly to make sure it was his chest blocking the header at the end

tarkowski - 10 imperious. can't believe anyone doubted him; yet another lesson that players need time to bed in.

mee - 8 - a couple of errors that almost let them in but can't be too harsh as he was superb otherwise

ward - 9 got forward brilliantly and if wood had jumped for his 1st half fizzing cross he'd have two assists

defour - 8 class shone through again

cork - 8 hell of a partnership we've got in there now

brady - 8 huge improvement on last week, he broke really well on numerous occasions and his crossfield ball in the build up to the goal was a beauty

arfield - 8 perfect position for him in this set up away from home

hendrick - 8 lovely, composed feint and finish for the goal and his work rate was excellent; his quick breaks to close down kept us up the pitch and forced them back to the keeper constantly

wood - 7 getting better but the ball still bounces off him a bit too much when he can't decide how to take it. bullied williams.

i expected at least a point before the game and thought if we took the lead we'd probably win. so it proved but the manner of the performance made this a much more comfortable result than the scoreline might suggest.

everton have a very good squad but they're out of form and very low on confidence so its an ideal time to play them but that takes nothing away from us because although they didn't offer much, it was more about us not letting them.

as good a performance as we've seen from us at this level in terms of controlling the game and the winning goal was total football. be in no doubt that we belong here.
