Jack Cork for England

Post by Woodleyclaret » Sat Oct 07, 2017 7:39 am

Southgate wants to add more creativity to England's midfield so surely it's time Jack got the call.No nothing Southgate is ,according to today's Mirror thinking of calling up Wilshere.Jack Wilshere is yesterday's news ,an injury probe hyped up player of limited ability and even less heart than Jordan Henderson.
Southgate says players he selects have to be playing regularly at a good level.
Top 6 in the Premier league good enough Gareth?

He is certainly a better player than Dier. He is a wasted player in there when playing smaller nations, and a spoiler at best when playing the likes of Germany.

Wouldn't say he's that creative cork but keeps possession ticking over and brings composure to the team..he's head and shoulders above that dross England central pair though in my opinion but wouldn't be considered as he plays for little old Burnley

Ben Mee, Tarka, Pope, Cork all deserve a call up. Although I doubt if any will get a chance coz we're a "little" club

Hardly a surprise yet another England manager is going to call up Wilshere, even though he's highly likely to be unfit or get injured.

On the radio yesterday Keane got slaughtered and Mee was being recommended to replace him due to the differences in their performances this season.

Southgate is just another yes man though.

Do we have any English players that don’t deserve a call up?

England are boring. Useless in tournaments.

Once we've won the champions league then England can have Dyche. Then tournaments will be worth getting excited about again!!!!

Would anyone from England team get a place in the Burnley team? Personally I think the only one would be Kane, not that Wood is anything other than brilliant.

Cork is more of a Carrick or Barry style of player but if you want somebody to close a game down by ball retention he's your man.
Does all the basics of the game superbly. Wins it, passes it to a guy wearing the same shirt, gets in space to have it back again. It's a simple game really.

It’s going to be a tough January fighting off all these big clubs for our players.

This thread demonstrates the value of team over individuals.

The sentiment about the 'superstars' not getting in the Burnley team is not to do with how good the individual is but how strong our team is, with every player doing their bit.

The Wilshere fanboys are out in force on social media.

He's now world class since being out with his last injury

Your players could play for england, do badly and it wreck their confidence. Be careful what you wish for.

Every single post on this thread is pure common sense I think we were all disgusted with the performance this week. It's a great pity that both Wales and the R.O.I. can't qualify because my heart will be supporting any other of the other home nations if they get there, too many English 'superstars' and no team.

If Cork keeps up his current level of performance he might force his way into a squad. He certainly isn't at the same level as Dier or Henderson though, which is why when he was available this Summer he ended up at Burnley rather than Liverpool or Spurs.

I'm genuinely unsure hat some Burnley supporters see when they watch him. The idea that he would add creativity to any team is pretty misguided. He holds his position, protects the defence and retains possession (and does it very well) but he has never been and will never be a creative midfielder.

He's a very accomplished mid table premier league player.

I know Wilshire is injury prone but IMO he is by far the most creative English midfield player we have. I'd like to see him in a three with Alli and Sterling, behind Kane and Rashford and Dier as the holding midfielder in front of a back four. (Or Dier and Henderson in front of a back three).

Helmet time for me I suppose.....

If it weren't for injury, dunn would have been a bit better than mid table standard. He wouldn't have been with rovers and Birmingham either.

Southgate will probably pick him anyway, it's like a contractual clause for England managers, pick the mercurial England player even if they're injured...

There is a role for him in the squad, but only if there is a few injuries.

He's perfect for us but International class? Not sure

Realistically what options are there for midfield?

Dier - probably more of a centre half than midfielder.
        Henderson - I can't warm to him.
Chalobah - can't say ive seen a great deal of him
        Livermore - he's ok
Wilshere - always injured - can be very good when fit
Winks - young, inexperienced, high potential
Cork - solid, does a job in front of the back four
Drinkwater - similar to cork but won't get much get game time
Delph - a good player but similar to drinkwater as in he won't get game time

I genuinely believe believe that Cork is better than Chalobah, Livermore, Winks. Will be interesting to see his chances over the coming months.
