Leaving early

Yesterday must be a record. Stadium was half empty at final whistle. Granted it was "all over" once the 3 rd went in. But still goes against my upbringing to leave before the final whistle.

I very rarely leave early, last time was Wolves away (nil 3, Paul Cook red card early on).

I did yesterday, felt really bad for doing it as like to show support when we need it most, but just really wanted to avoid traffic and being wound up by Mancs.

I don't think folk should leave before the end of any event. Stuff happens right at the end!

Havent left early in nearly 20 years. Including the drubbing at home against them under laws in worse conditions.

Did yesterday. And glad I did. Its the city fans who did which i find odd.

Blase attitude from Citeh fans; ironic that a good percentage of them can't be arsed to watch till the end.
Seems they are pretty much incapable of selling out that stadium, always blocks of blue seats even in their 'home' end, which seems odd given the amount of tourists wanting to watch the top Prem clubs.

We sat in the home end last year. I don't know whether it was where we sat but there seemed to be a high proportion of non-City fans. It does seem strange that their attendances are dropping off but there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm from the 'old' City fans. They struggle to sell for CL fixtures, always see offers on for cheap tickets. But it's not that big of a ground and there always seem to be at least a third of the ground empty with about ten minutes to go regardless of the score.

Was listening to radio Lancs and they had Lenny Jonrose on. He made laugh when he said "people leave early but the never come on late".

To be fair it's an absolute nightmare getting out if you're on that tram back to Manchester. We hung about a bit hoping to avoid the crowds, ended up getting soaked after waiting 20 minutes for a tram, finally getting on at 6, and we were still crammed in like sardines. You'd think having spent the best part of a billion on the squad they could afford to put a few more buses or trams on.

Clubs are missing a trick. Especially at this time of year. Should open the bars post match while traffic and what have you dies down.

This. I'm sure those who are Man City ticket holders know that leaving 5 minutes may well get them home an hour early. I don't see the problem with it. Put it this way: You'll never stop it happening, so why let it bother you.

I’ve left early loads of times. The only thing of interest that I’ve ever missed is when Andy Cole ran after Darren Purse to boot him up the arse.

I haven't left early from a game yet this season, but I will at some point.

I don't see a major issue with it personally, people's circumstances are different.

I considered it for the West Ham game, but thankfully decided against it.
Same with Spurs and again I'm glad we didn't leave early.

Which would be totally reasonable especially with the distance you have to travel. Only thing that pisses me off a little is when people decide to leave early but than stand watching the game blocking the view of others

I have only left early once but as a referee this did not go down well and I was suspended for 3 months because of it

The only goal i've missed from leaving early was an equaliser vrs Scunthorpe in a cup. But i don't leave early very often because i don't like going to games because i'm not a Proper Claret™.

Very rarely leave early but as has been mentioned getting back was a nightmare. Also did you see the weather? The trains got cancelled. That said I shouldn't have to justify myself.

man city fan here in peace. i was at the game yesterday. a lot of fans weren't leaving but moving up into the concourse and further up as to not get soaked. we do have a problem with early leavers at times, but loads of clubs have the same problem. it is a nightmare to get out of the ground at times though, trams especially are a pain.

anyway, i like burnley as a club and you've got a good team and a good manager. its great to see ben mee doing well. good luck for the rest of the season !

id say it was probably where you were sat. the vast majority of fans attending are long standing fans. for instance where I'm sat its a lot of the same faces i remember from maine road. the attendances are good imo. league games, we pretty much always sell out. we have a core support of around 40-45,000 imo, so getting 54,000 in the ground is a pretty good achievement.

the champions league for whatever reason, lots of ticket holders just haven't warmed to it. tickets are cheap in the early roudns, but further on ,they go up to 40/50/60 quid at times and its difficult to afford all the games. we've gone from playing once a week to playing all the time now and its a lot more expensive.

I went to Maine road once as my sister at the time was going out with a City fan. Perhaps you were at the game?

It was City vs Blackburn. They had Shearer but it was when he had a broken leg and I saw him arrive on the bus. Rovers led 2-0 at half time, but City came back and won 3-2. To say it was the only time I went, it wasn't a bad game!

We're talking the era of Gary Flitcroft and Keith Curle. Around 1990 I think.

I'm sure I heard tickets for an up coming game were £1 for under 18's. Great prices.

City fans are going the same way as United and Chelsea now. Very arrogant and a nasty bunch yesterday I thought. The ones we encounted anyway, possibly former Oldham fans etc, who forgot where you came from.

yea wolves in the cup. 10 quid for adults and we will probably get a good crowd. thats the complete opposite though of most games. most prem games are 40/50 quid. we haven't forgot where we have come from, the majority of our match going fans attended maine road. we might have a few like that, buts its impossible not to when you start winning things. you'd have the same thing, leicester now with some of there fans.

I honestly don't mind if you think you're a superior claret to me. Whatever makes you feel better about yourself. And i'm not being sarcastic about that. Some people struggle with self-esteem or confidence and if it makes you feel good to consider yourself superior to another as a Burnley fan then by all means, go ahead.
I just generally don't enjoy attending the games. It's OK if you don't understand.

I left early on 23 March 1996 and missed a goal! We were 4-0 down away to Oxford. Oxford's fifth went in as me and the offspring were walking away from the ground. Don't think I've left early since (not that I go to a huge number of games).

Going to Southampton away on 4th November. I will be staying right to the end (hopefully to celebrate).

Possibly just a small minority giving you a bad name, the corner section were embarrassing with some of their antics.

I used to like City, but yesterday's experience has left me with a bad taste in the mouth.

Yes ...the weather was very bad. I've been to the ethihad twice now..easy in easy out.the word nightmare is obviously subjective.but the ground is the easiest I've attended anywhere for nearby parking.

Assuming from your post you are in your own transport then i can't comment on that. Without and it can be stressful certainly in my experiences.

The burnley supporter in front of us gesticulating throughout the match was embarrassing...even his kid told him to no avail. Where's a female fan with a big smile on her face gave as good as she got all in good fun.

I went to the Burnley vs Leeds game the other week. Driving from Leeds it took us 3 hours to do a 1 hour jouney and not much better the way back. Good fish and chips though - we ordered and paid for them as the traffic was at a halt.

I don't go much now but i did go a lot in the 80's and 90's. Both home and away I have never left a match early. I consider it a privilege to be there and don't want to miss a minute... that is all i have to say about that

that corner section has always been like that. usually at city the sections right next to the away fans are. i.e. wind up the away fans as much as possible. fair enough with your opinion mate. i thought your fans were actually really good and much louder then previous away fans.
