I am yet to put mine on, owing to nice sunny days. However, getting chillies at night....will I make November without It? (A record)

Anyone else hanging on this year?

My house has this very modern thing you may have heard of called a thermostat. Puts the heating on when it's cold and not when it's not, rather than arbitrary concepts of 'hanging on til November' etc.

I have to wait till I'm 66 for winter fuel allowance, also I don't get a bus pass till I'm 66 (previously it was 60 I think). I suspect Tony that you just made the age before they changed it!

My central heating is on 24/7 at the moment. It is our only form of heating.

Winter fuel was a strange one - think I've had that for three years now but the last year I didn't qualify I missed out by a week. You had to be born on or before the 5th January 1952 and my birthday is 12th.

The bus pass qualification date has slowly moved upwards from 60 in line with women's pension. A friend of mine who is exactly a year older got his two months before his 61st birthday, I got mine two months before my 62nd birthday, two years after him.

You've got the dates wrong regarding August 1953 - it's only for those born after 6/10/54 who have to wait until their 66th birthday - someone born on 5th August 53 was entitled to one last July and from 6th August to 5th September 53, entitled to one from next week.

Don't ask me why, but winter fuel allowance and bus passes work on different dates. You are correct with your 5th August 1953 for the WFA.

Yes it’s the 1953 date for the fuel allowance but mine is 26/8/54 so I’ve a longer wait. 2 years for WFA and Pension, but at least I avoided having to be 67.

We are both right, my state pension date is 6/7/20 when I’ll be 65 years 10 months and 5 days old! Make sense of that.

I live in a first floor flat with neighbours above and below and on two sides. I don't have central heating but my neighbours do!

I do have a gas fire in the living room which isn't on at the moment as the sun is shining and warming the room despite it being cold outside. We also had cavity wall insulation installed a few years ago, under a scheme where we got it free, which I reckon makes a difference.

I get my pension in June this year but got notified last year that I was entitled to the Winter Fuel Allowance in November 2017 (if I hadn't been notified I wouldn't have thought to claim it).

I got a WFA for the first time this year. Most welcome.
Bus pass March last year. Pension June this year.
Missed out on bus pass at 60. Looking forw1ard to cheaper football next season!

Well, we had storage heaters before that and its slightly more expensive than they were! But I reckon that would work out similar to central heating.

But its superb for warming up the whole house.

And you cannot beat getting out of bed in the morning and putting your feet on a warm floor

Is that based on this thread? It seems on here that it’s more about saving a quid or two by putting up with a bit of a chill for a week or two more.

I don’t get the turn it on malarkey. Set it to a temperature that is right for you and it’ll come on whene it’s needed. Doesn’t matter if it’s October, July or whenever.

I use heating methods sparingly & get by with thermal clothing mostly, the cold snap I find hot drinks help & moving about more within the house & not sitting idle keeps me warmer.

If I can't walk around and relax in my shorts in winter then I turn the heating up.
