Not great... but I'm sure Stoke scored against us last year at their place as a result of them 'giving' us the ball back by kicking it out for a throw deep in our half??ElectroClaret wrote:Vicious.

Jeez you could see the lads just thought it was funny, no big deal. Everyone knows Stoke cheat by kicking out the ball. Troy may be an ex convict but you can't exactly be critical when he grabs someone's face and they are laughing about it.
Not like it tried to throw a punch or anything.

Can't help thinking of Stingray everytime his name is mentioned.
Or Benidorm
Has anyone ever met anyone called 'Troy' in real life?
He does have a curiously shaped face ,he looks a bit like Lionel Richie but I bet he's never danced on a ceiling.

Think you`re way off the mark there, superdimitri. I think the laughing was more `lost it and maniacal` than `friendly handbags`. He had Allen`s face in both hands in some Vulcan death lock for a good 30 seconds whilst having the animal instinct to I believe, push Shawcross (?) to the ground.superdimitri wrote:Jeez you could see the lads just thought it was funny, no big deal. If he does not get retrospective action taken against him then football has become a free for all.

Nah, the laughing was mutual. Look at the stoke players. No harm intended, as I said if he wanted to inflict harm he would have thrown a punch.

Should of both been sent off, you can't behave like that on a football pitch.
I noticed shawcross also did the obligatory push his head into someone's face, like the slowest headbut in the world.

Just seen the “incident” on MOTD and I can’t believe some of the comments above. Is it any surprise the games gone soft when absolute nothingness results in comments like “thug” “I wouldn’t want him anywhere near our club” etc.MACCA wrote:What's happened ?

Re: Troy Deeney
He will get a retrospective ban for that and rightly so.
Re: Troy Deeney
They should have both been sent off for violent conduct. Referee bottled it by dishing out yellow cards.
Re: Troy Deeney
There was a melee before that incident and it really needs to be sorted. If two players clash as Troy and Joe did, that has to be dealt with; anyone else who involves themselves with pushing and shoving should get an automatic yellow and a red if already booked. The ref should decide what happens in the clash of two players that trigger the incident. Looking at the particular incident with Troy- straight red for Troy yellow for Joe and yellows for those numpties who chose to make a "mountain from a mole hill"
If the game had to be abandoned from a lack of players then so be it and both clubs hit with massive fines. Nil points to both teams but the game counts to the 38/46 depending upon the Division.

Honestly? I beg to differ. The atmosphere on the pitch had become incredibly aggressive and antagonistic.

Re: Troy Deeney
Some incredible outrage on here. What's wrong with matches getting heated from time to time? This is why we have officials. If it happened every game then a clampdown would be needed but it doesn't.
Getting a result away, which culminates in a bit of fistycuffs (although usually just pushing and eyeballing) is all part of the footie experience.
Every team will have a few of these type of bouts per season.

Stoke got their second goal last season because of them doing that. Doesn’t excuse Deeney but all seemed to suit double standards Hughes.Row Z wrote:Not great... but I'm sure Stoke scored against us last year at their place as a result of them 'giving' us the ball back by kicking it out for a throw deep in our half??

Handbags at 10 paces.
Deeney finding it funny when someone half his size is looking to pick a fight.
No one got hurt and credit to Allen for not rolling around on the floor holding his face.
Deeney may well get a ban; move on.
Is mockrage a word ?

Not seen the incident yesterday but when my 2 boys were mascot against Watford last season they said Troy Deeney was really nice to them. Had a chat for a minute or so, asked if they played football, what positions etc then wished them a nice time with the Burnley team.

Re: Troy Deeney
I think they should have fights like in Ice Hockey, players know they will head for the sin bin but if your going anyway you might as well make a go of it.
Still don't understand why its such a big problem, they got booked as they should have, its not like it was a full blown fight. Stoke deserve all they get from their dirty tactics and as people already pointed out, its not like Allen or Shawcross are gents on the pitch.
Do the people who state there is no place for this in the game realise the kind of stuff players get up to off the camera? Especially players years back..
Ironically I used to know a Troy, he was the campiest gay-queen you will ever meet.

Re: Troy Deeney
Deeney always comes accross well on tv. Level headed and always complimentary of us.
Allen is one of the biggest culprits for gamesmanship ive seen. Good player. But of the two on character alone id take deeney.
As for the incident. Its nothing.

I believe they can in extreme circumstances and I hope they do. You are right, it has no place on a football pitch and I would hope he has a long ban coming his way.Vegas Claret wrote:ref booked them both so Deeney can't get a retrospective ban - this has no place on a football pitch for me

There is no rule to say watford have to give the ball back when stoke put the ball out, in fact the rules now state its up to the referee to stop play so stoke were naive there.
Joe Allen goes for deeney, shawcross throws a headbutt at deeney how do you expect deeney to react? How would you react?

Re: Troy Deeney
It's time every team stopped giving the ball back when kicked out of play. It is also time referees stopped halting play when some tosser decides to go down after a nothing challenge in order to break up play. As soon as it became normal practice to give the ball back from a throw in, that's when players began taking advantage by feigning injury to stop play.

Re: Troy Deeney
Problem is players are 'precious assets' and you can imagine the furore that will hapen if a Ref allows play to continue when a player is genuinely hurt.
It really is a no win situation but ultimately the players should be ashamed when they act like they are seriously hurt only to be running around full tilt a minute later. Unfortunately though they aren't and things will continue as they are.

Re: Troy Deeney
I know it has been mentioned before, but allowing physios onto the pitch without stopping play is surely the answer.
The only exception I guess would be when the injury is in the penalty area.

Re: Troy Deeney
Its a refreshing change that deeney didnt go down like he was shot. Like silva last week.
Re: Troy Deeney
1) stop giving the ball back from throw ins - half the time these days players are faking it
2) allow physios to come on the pitch and don't stop the game unless it's in the penalty area
3) retrospective ban or immediate 5 minute sin bin for any player who shows Lazarus type recovery. Like cheating Hernandez - rolling about the floor like he was seriously injured then getting up and sprinting after the ball.
I doubt very much any of these rules (or guidelines) will be brought in despite the fact that almost every football fan would agree they would improve the game.

Siddo - Stork Hotel; the pub once donated a new strip to the team, including shocking pinķ shirts. Whilst walking out to the pitch alongside Paddy Gorton I complimented them on how smart their new pink shirts were - "they're fookin red!" growled Paddy. I agreed of course and thanked him for correcting me. We won the battle that day.

Have you even see the replay? Allen approaches Deeney aggressively, Deeney laughs and puts his hand on his face?? Tell me have you ever had a bloke put his hand on your face laughing and think you are in trouble?superdimitri thinks that is all mutual!
The guy would have decked him if he meant trouble. He was just laughing that he squared up to him..big deal.
I'm glad stuff like this happens in the Premier league, if either Deeney or Allen were Italian or Spanish one of them (or both) would be rolling round on the grass like girls.
