The true value of a partnership!
For a moment, consider the individual values of Mee and Tarkowski...and before you say they're priceless, let's remember that everyone at Burnley has a price.
We've spent a lot of time in recent years talking about the cut-off price for players such as Austin, Trippier, Keane and Gray. Clearly there comes a time when a fee is reached and t becomes just too good to turn down. In the vast majority of cases though, you're paying for the qualities of an individual.
What I'd like people to consider though is the additional value of those hidden qualities that manifest themselves differently in every single partnership in the game.
If, for example, Dyche was to go to Everton (or just take the next Everton manager, whoever he is) and they wanted to sign BOTH Ben Mee and Jame Tarkowski, how much MORE do you think should be asked, for the partnership.
Is there anyone out there that just thinks, for example, £20 million each, so £40 million in total?
They're forming a truly incredible partnership here and I'd be gutted, should it be broken through one of the aforementioned players leaving.

Re: The true value of a partnership!
It's hard to put a price on any player due to this ridiculous market which keeps fluctuating. For the pair I would hope for 50-60 million because I am being greedy

Re: The true value of a partnership!
Controversial claretrobo1; you've not answered the question. I want to know how much the PARTNERSHIP is worth...simply, the fact that they play together, have an understanding, know one another's game etc...
You could argue that the PARTNERSHIP makes them worth £10 million extra, 15, 20...?

Re: The true value of a partnership!
The true value of a partnership is unknown as you very rarely,
if at all, see two players moving on together to the same club.
You may stab a guess of 20-30m for Mee and Tarks if someone came in
but then I don't think we'd sell.
If that partnership is key to us staying up then one could argue it's value is
10's of millions.
However, the true value to us is priceless because it extends far beyond
keeping clean sheets as a foundation for getting points and/or a win and
everything that follows from that.

Re: The true value of a partnership!
As a package there couldn't be a levy because of individual contracts BUT if a precedent was made I would say it could be around £15m on top of the fees agreed for each player.
Throw in Nick Pope and it's a package worth around £30m on top

Interesting comments Jurek, cheers.
Interestingly, I think Mee is worth more than £20 million now.

Re: The true value of a partnership!
Mee is the one they would go for to get that partnership with Keane.
If SD left for Everton he would know all the trigger fees necessary for a player to leave.

Re: The true value of a partnership!
So Colburn, if you BOGOF with these players, are you saying £25 million a piece, OR something £20 million each, plus an extra £10 million because you're buying that extra bit of ... understanding??

Re: The true value of a partnership!
If Tarks was on a four year deal, he is a £40m defender every day of the week.
Ben Mee is not as sexy to the media but would still command £20m+ for us to even entertain an offer.
Fabulous the pair of them - cannot believe we are STRONGER without Michael Keane.

Re: The true value of a partnership!
Not sure Mee is worth 20m jdrobbo but might argue that he is irreplacable.
What he may lack in certain areas/skills he makes up for in other ways.
He's Burnley through and through or as close as you are likely to get.
We might be able to buy a centre half with better skills on the ball but not sure
we could replace the other.
It would probably cost us more than we could afford to do so.

Re: The true value of a partnership!
Mee is the player whose loss would be most profound even though Tarka is the better player.

Re: The true value of a partnership!
Like when Dyche brought the pressing game to the side five seasons ago and the other 23 teams could only play hot potato against us?
Re: The true value of a partnership!
Mee is worth a lot more to Burnley than to anyone else, because at Burnley we know how much value he adds to his partner. Does Keane look anything like the player he was last year? So other teams would balk at paying £20m for him, while we would know he would cost a lot more than that to replace.

Re: The true value of a partnership!
No manager in their right mind would sell Ben Mee. He just makes the team tick with his commitment
JT (the only JT) is a much more sell-able asset, but if BFC were to sell it would be a massive loss.
Both of them can earn the right to have cult status. One of then is very close to it now.
Last seasons centre back partnership or this seasons centre back partnership ? - I know which one I would rather have and its the one which got us to sixth earlier today

Re: The true value of a partnership!
Thankfully, for the first time in our long and illustrious history, there is no requirement for us to be a 'selling club'.
Ironically it all started with the sale to Everton of Tommy Lawton and the ones since are too numerous to mention. Now, for the time being at least, we can keep hold of our prized assets.

Ben Mee IS the partnership.
