Delayed Reaction

Post by wilks_bfc » Sat Nov 18, 2017 5:42 pm

Go on. Admit it

Who else didn’t realise that Ashley’s shot had gone in and thought it had hit the post?

From where we sit in the JML, myself and all those around me thought it had smashed against the post and rebounded away.

I thought "feck me" that's going to break the net and knock someones head off.

When we saw the replay we realised how hard & close to the post he hit it.
Never seen a “bounce back” from the net go that far or fast before

Thought it had gone in I was right behind it,then I thought f me I must be seeing things. Two other funny moment was lowton's best effort for Swansea, and pope's ball out of play in the first play in the first half.It looked like someone was injured them he held his hand up! Great performance though!

I didn’t celebrate for about ten seconds after it went in and was trying to tell people that it had hit the post!!

Modern day nets are supposed to stop that happening as it used to happen occasionally, even at the top most levels and goals were missed and not given. I couldn't believe how far that ball bounced out today.

On the big screen replay, it looked like it hit the strap like thing that holds down the rear edge of the net. An inch higher or lower and it would have been more absorbed by the netting. Very hard to replicate I reckon. Anyway I’ll have another look on motd later.

I thought it hit those bloody horrible glowing advertising boards immediately behind the goal - there was a noise like you'd expect from that anyway which, coupled with the bounce out made me, from JH lower, think he'd missed. If so, they're too close; will see if MOTD sheds further light...

Have to say from the Bob Lord I was surprised to see a goal signalled. The main reason being the ball coming back out so far and so quickly.

My take is that the electronic advertising board is much closer to the netting than at the Beehole end and any shot struck with force under a metre high will rebound from the advert board with a force similar to coming back from a wall.

The West Brom winner at the Turf earlier in the season was exactly the same when the ball rebounded way beyond the scorer (Phillips I think).

I'm not convinced that the whole ball crossed the line, does anyone have a still?

I think pretty much the whole of the Jimmy Mac thought he'd hit the post. When I realised he'd given a goal, I presumed it had was a goal-line technology thing - maybe the ball had arced over the line as it bounced out. It was only when I saw it on the screen I realised what had happened.

It was a very strange goal, normally you have a sense that a shot is, or might be going in. This one was in the net and back out again whilst I was still wondering what he was going to do with it.

It's been a potential problem ever since we introduced the electronic advertising boards at pretty much the same time we increased the length and width of the pitch. Today was the second time this season the ball has bounced back out as though it hit a wall.

An accident waiting to happen and will soon enough result in a goal incorrectly not being given.

No it won't, the refs wear watches linked to the goal line technology.

I think Barnes’s touch was meant to cut back across the player but he ballsed it up and just slammed it in. Made it look like a strange goal

Why take the risk though?...............You wouldn't see advertising boards so close to the netting in the Unibond Plastic League never mind the Premier League. It only has the potential to cause confusion.

There's no risk. The ref gets a buzz on his wrist when the ball crosses the line.
