January window
January window
If Woods, Wells, Walters and Marney are fit by then , looking at our current form and if it continues do you think we'll sign anyone?
I'm not sure we will. SD won't want to rock the boat although I think a wide player with skill and pace would compliment the team and give us options on the counter attack.

I think we should give him a player of his choice, break the bank to get him in. We are on the verge of something special here, we just need that one special player to make us really scared teams.
Re: January window
There is room for one as we have only 24 with the present squad not counting Ulvestad unless some of those can be played but exluded from the 25 and assuming none of the loanees is included in the 25 on their return in Jnauary- Long I think is too lod not to be part of a 25 squad but Adyei can play but be outside the 25

I can't really see why we would look to strengthen the first 11-15.
perhaps a centre-back and a centre-midfielder for the future.

Re: January window
We have to strengthen. I agree, we've got the best squad we've ever had at this level, but sitting in the comfort zone is a lot of teams downfall.
We do need another centre half, I like JBG a lot and he is getting better, but someone like Andone with pace is still needed. Another ball playing midfielder, we would still struggle, although not terminally, if we lost either Jack Cork or Defour.
Jeff Hendrick playing that role off the centre forward shows that we don't have a natural player for this position. Nakhi hopefully will do the job when he gets the chance, but then there is no cover for him.
We ain't buying all of them this window, but to tick off any two of them would be another stride in the right direction.

Re: January window
Much may depend on how well we perform between now and January
and whether we pick up any injuries.
If we continue the way we have so far and get close to 30 points or more by then
and are relatively injury free then can't see us bringing in too many during the window.
Possibly one or two at most and would agree with some that a wide player with pace
would be the most likely although another centre-half and/or midfielder wouldn't go amiss
as far as I"m concerned.
But then Dyche will be the one to decide what's required and believe he will
have more than a good idea of what he wants to help us achieve our highest finish.
A top ten finish will ensure we have another 20m or so coming in next season and
we do already have cash in the bank.

Re: January window
If we are virtually certain to be safe come January,it gives us a chance to target players in the last year of their contract as when can guarantee Premier League football, many others will not be able so fortunate,we have to strike well the iron is hot and we are an attractive option.
Re: January window
Dyche often slowly integrates new players, bedding them in to the squad and ensuring that they are ready to for our style / system, before putting them in the first team (Tarkowski, Taylor etc.).
January would be a great time to have players bedding in ready for next season. Striker, winger and centre half still needed.

I would love fluorine andone. Very similar kind of player to inga, would be good for us in Hendricks position.

Centre half and winger for me. I'd go big on a quality winger then hopefully a younger up and coming centre half for the future.

Do you not consider Westwood to be this player? Or would you like another in as well Colburn?Colburn_Claret wrote:We have to strengthen. I agree, we've got the best squad we've ever had at this level, but sitting in the comfort zone is a lot of teams downfall.

An experienced Championship defender at a good age who can start bedding in for Prem level would be ideal and a link player in the hole who could also play 2 up top as well, i.e. a mix of Andre Gray's pace and scoring rate mixed in with Scotty Arfield's ability to get in between the lines but with more technical accuracy and ability. Answers on a postcard to who that might be.

Re: January window
If we can get 30 points by January SD will be in a unique position in his time here being virtually certain of the division we will be in next season. The board can increase the budget accordingly possibly giving SD more options

Re: January window
I think Westwood could certainly do a job for us, which is why I said it wouldn't be terminal, but I do think he would lack the flair that Defour and Cork offer. He's a good defensive midfielder, but lacks the attacking edge that the others have, and which this side needs.diamondpocket wrote:Do you not consider Westwood to be this player? Re: January window
Andone would be perfect in the CAM. You don't need expressed pace there, it's more about agility, acceleration and most of all your mind. Grays pace is only needed up top or on the wings, it would be wasted in the CAM.

we could do with more goals thats for certain, our goals for tally is not in keeping with that of a team in 7th spot. think one of the teams in bottom 3 has scored more than us.

we might never be in a better position to strengthen than January, I hope we go all out and improve our quality in certain areas
Re: January window
Depends who’s available. If there is someone who available for the right money and is an upgrade on what we have got in any position then we should try to sign them. That said, I don’t think we need to sign anyone.

We need defensive back up, but it might be a problem attracting
quality bodies if they know they're just gonna be sat on the bench
because of the form of our current back line.
No doubt the boss will sort it.

I'd like to think we'd use the window to go looking for the next Tarkowski; a talented player who can be bought for £4-8 million and be moulded over the remainder of the season, to be first team ready several months down the line. Build for the future!

I have just been watching the Watford game and searching the lower leagues top scorers and watching some videos of them.
I am struggling to see a striker who we would want to buy, hence the Austin post.
Open to some suggestions to look at.
Anyone any ideas???

Maybe Sean suspects certain players are looking to move on and upwards. If so perhaps he should bring in suitable replacements in advance?
Or possibly just wait and see what injuries our players pick up between now and then.

Re: January window
Up and coming CB needed first. Winger not too fussed about because Nahki can play there and JBG and Brady doing well. As much as I like Jeff, I think we need someone who is suited to that role. Hendrick is best as a box to box CM.
My choice would be Delaney from Werder Bremen. One big signing would be bliss and if we are still in a good position, it will attract big name players.

Re: January window
Most important, would like us to have signed Tarks, Mee and Hendrick on longer contracts by then.
Still need a natural No 10 - if only Ings could be guaranteed fitness (although a loan till summer is not a great risk providing a get out on wages was part of any deal)
Pace still needed out wide
Given our current position I would hope potential players are looking to come to us by then
If we are serious about finishing the season well we don't want any more "squad" players

Re: January window
True but that depends on what you have done with the money you have already earned.
Jay appears to be surrounded by his family and not doing stupid things. No stories of late nights or gambling surround him.
35k a week still gives you a million a year after tax.
Perhaps he not that greedy and has looked after his money.
Anyway it did not happen and it's not going to.
So I am still struggling to identify a target for Jan

Re: January window
There is only 1 main risk to us continuing this unbelievable season and that is should anything happen to tarks or Ben. We do not have anything like the cover we have for every other position. That has to be sorted in January and not to do would be insane. Tarks is that good that I don't think we will keep him come the summer so we are going to need 2 cbs. Sign an up and coming one in jan for starters.
The biggest spend though has to be on a proper nr 10. That is the biggest area for improvement we have. The final piece in the jigsaw would be someone like Bolasie on the right wing. I know we can't afford him but you know what I mean.
We have evolved from boyd and Scotty being defensively solid to Robbie and jbg doing the same but offering creativity.

Couple of gambles on a bit of youth ? Championship / League One, perhaps. It’s something that’s been almost entirely irradicated from the squad and it needs addressing. We should have the scouting network for it. Be brave.
