Have you made a bid?
Re: Our Oldest Trophy ?
Shouldn’t the club bid for that?
£500 would be a steal.

Wow.
That's brilliant.
Come on, BFC.
Get it bought!
Presume someone's let the club know?

Yup, £350 just to put a first marker down but I'll happily stand aside if the Club are after it.ClaretTony wrote:Have you made a bid?

Maybe it's the club selling it to re-invest in more Twixes?

Re: Our Oldest Trophy ?
That match is listed in Clarets Chronicles.
It was the 6th match in a tournament that started on April 14th against Pentridge Rovers.
Followed by Loveclough, Trinity, Burnley Union Star & Fulledge
The final is shown as being against Burnley Ramblers, not Liverpool, and the scorers were Eastwood and Birley.
Lovely piece though.

Was very tempted but the club should have this. My great, great uncle played in the second Hospital Cup final in 1884.

CT with your connections at the club, could you establish if they're going to place bids, to stop people on here bidding against them.
I'm prepared to donate £10 and I think many others on here may offer something to help the club, obtain the trophy.

Re: Our Oldest Trophy ?
According to the history section of Clarets Mad, and others no doubt, it appears BFC moved onto ground adjacent to the Cricket Club in the Spring of 1883 so that series of six matches , probably the first ever at the Turf if the competition began in April, secured our first ever trophy as BFC.
Stunning.

FYI: We were discussing said item last night at half time at the U23 game and this morning I have emailed three of the club's directors to try and establish whether the club do intend bidding for it.

I hope it's not the same team who do the transfer discussions, otherwise we'll have offered £43 for the £500 itemClaretTony wrote:Just had a reply, club are aware of the item.

CT any chance of confirming club bid. I would be interested but would not want to bid against BFC

Re: silver trophy
There was a thread about the first trophy BFC won in the late 1800s, around the time when we moved to Turf Moor.Foshiznik wrote:What is it?
It was up for auction.
Think CT notified the club who, knew about it.
A lot of Clarets, me included, hoped the club would bid.

Re: Our Oldest Trophy ?
I couldn't believe my eyes when I got the auction alert last week and I hope the club bought it, the £3K plus winning bid (plus another 25% add-ons) is a fair sum but good value when you think what this trophy represents.
Assuming the club weren't going to go for it, I'd have gone up to about £1000. Some hope, eh ?

I bought it - will be at the Prinny Royal before every match day charging £10 for a pic with it.
Re: Our Oldest Trophy ?
£3200 is a steal - ten years hence you could see it appreciating 10 fold.
