Pope
Watched the players getting off the coach last night couldn’t believe the size of the man , huge .
Also I love the time he takes with the ball protecting the lead , not sure how he got away without a booking though, but who cares .

Re: Pope
I love the way he comes out to collect crosses. Heats only weakness imo, he prefers to stay on his line.

Re: Pope
His height is given as 191 cm (just over 6ft 3 in old money) but he looks even bigger than that, noticeably taller than Tarks who's a big lad himself.
Wood is given as 191 cm too, must try and see them side by side to check that out because Pope always looks like the tallest in the team when you see them in a line (maybe he's has big hair).
In any case, he certainly makes best use of his height when he deals with crosses.

Re: Pope
Great keeper. It's funny how a few weeks back we were all concerned about the impact Tom Heaton's injury would have. Watching the game last night all I could think was thank goodness we have "Nick Pope, Nick Pope in the centre of our goal!"

Re: Pope
They should be rotating for England like Shilton and Clemence once did !!
Seriously Pope should be considered for England squad based on this seasons form.
Hart has been dreadful
Buckland injured
Forster should be nowhere near the squad
Pickford poor this season
Hard to think that Pope is not in the top 3 English keepers at the moment

Re: Pope
Pope isn't getting as much work to do as Heaton has in the past.
Most of Pope's saves have been routine (for a goalie worth owt) but his leg save against Benteke and that half volley he saved at Southampton were very good.
He's a very good goalkeeper and I have no worries about him being our No 1 for years to come.

Re: Pope
he probably is when you take the length of his arms into consideration - Coming for crosses is the one area where he has a huge advantage over Tom
Still can't believe we have two such exceptional goalkeepers and lots of the credit should go to Billy mercer

Re: Pope
I agree that he does appear to not be as busy as Tom was last season. Our outfield play being so much better means we aren't under pressure anywhere near as much, but some of the credit must go to Nick. The number of times he's claimed the ball and removed the danger must be a blessing to our defence. Tom rarely did this, meaning the ball was in the danger zone far more often than if he claimed it like Nick does.Bin Ont Turf wrote:Pope isn't getting as much work to do as Heaton has in the past.

Re: Pope
Best compliment I could pay Pope is that we haven't missed Heaton at all to the point I've almost forgotten we have him...almost

Re: Pope
So nearly stopped the penalty as well, does it take a bobble over his arm?

Re: Pope
Would be nice if that's all he has to do Ian, but as pointed out by BOT further up, he's demonstrated there's more to his ability. The leg save example being just one.IanMcL wrote:Pope just has to catch a couple of high balls nowadays!
