Crewe fans reaction to a new signing
Crewe posted a poll this morning on Twitter relating to an incoming signing.
The poll was entitled Fancy some transfer business this lunch-time? and had three options:
1. Go on then, why not
2. Omg yes, get in!!
3. Nah, you're alright
Option 3 got 53% of the vote.
They did make a loan signing though.

Re: Crewe fans reaction to a new signing
I can remember going to Crewe one season and getting tonked. Possibly the season 88/89. Possibly 4-1 or 4-0. Those were the days!!!!!! Crewe were streets ahead of us.

It was the last away game of the 1988/89 season - ended 4-0. We were good back then though.HiroshimaClaret wrote:I can remember going to Crewe one season and getting tonked. Possibly the season 88/89. Possibly 4-1 or 4-0. Those were the days!!!!!! Crewe were streets ahead of us.

Thought it was towards the end of the season as I vaguely recollect it being a beautiful day, weather-wise. Almost 29 years ago...geez!!!!!!!ClaretTony wrote:It was the last away game of the 1988/89 season - ended 4-0. We were good back then though.

Almost certainly would have been on the coach in that season - they did win promotion, with Rotherham, Tranmere and Leyton Orient while we ended the season in 16th place.NL Claret wrote:Tuesday evening game - they won promotion that season I think.

Re: Crewe fans reaction to a new signing
Only seen us play at Crewe once, can't even remember the year.
It was that game when one of the Crewe players who wore some kind of bandana thing(Sodje?) was almost in tears as he was getting loads of stick from the Burnley fans who were chanting "he's got a tea towel on his head" throughout the match

I`m trying to recall who those three teams top scorers were that season. I feel I should remember Rotherham and Tranmere`s. I`m loathed to be brain bone idle and google it.ClaretTony wrote:Almost certainly would have been on the coach in that season - they did win promotion, with Rotherham, Tranmere and Leyton Orient while we ended the season in 16th place.

Gareth Taylor scored a penalty after cries from the Burnley fans of 'you can't take this with your head Taylor'.Vintage Claret wrote:Only seen us play at Crewe once, can't even remember the year.

I was at the Turf when we turned out backs to the pitch in protest and I'm pretty sure that was against Crewe

I can't remember the year, but I remember a young Neil Lennon having an unbelievable game against us in a draw (I think). He stood out a mile.

Re: Crewe fans reaction to a new signing
My only visit to Crewe was in the Autowindscreen trophy when Nogan scored our first (& only?) golden goal
Re: Crewe fans reaction to a new signing
My visit was around 2004/5, drew 1-1, think we had Peter whittingham on loan. The floodlights failed and my non Burnley supporting mate came along. He was not enjoying it when the game was delayed as he was feeling ill. Turns out he got mumps! We should have won from memory

I suspect twitter users who aren't Crewe fans may have clicked the 3rd link.

Re: Crewe fans reaction to a new signing
Only been once, in the season we were leading at Christmas under Stan. I recall we had a terrible run in the new year but retrieved some dignity with a 2-1 win, dont recall who scored but remember the fantastic state of the art stand were in.
Re: Crewe fans reaction to a new signing
I remember being really impressed with Robbie Savage down there one year and their goalkeeper having a pineapple on his head. Pretty sure we lost that one.willsclarets wrote:I can't remember the year, but I remember a young Neil Lennon having an unbelievable game against us in a draw (I think). He stood out a mile.

Didn't he have a really good game in the 1-0 back to the pitch game in 1996, not long before he went to Leicester?willsclarets wrote:I can't remember the year, but I remember a young Neil Lennon having an unbelievable game against us in a draw (I think). He stood out a mile.

I remember the game of four penalties, was it two each? Think we missed one and lost 4-2 in a Stan classic.

Re: Crewe fans reaction to a new signing
They got two pens in the first half and we got two in the second half. They scored both their pens, John Mullin missed but Paul Cook scored our second. We lost 4-2 and Dean Ashton scored their last, his first goal in football. Anthony Shandran got a debut as a sub for us and Stan said after the game that his first start wasn't far away.Fretters wrote:I remember the game of four penalties, was it two each? It was played 17 years ago next Saturday and Shandran is still to make his next appearance for us.

He was mates with a lad down the street and I once beat him at cuppies. I knew then that start would never happenClaretTony wrote:They got two pens in the first half and we got two in the second half.
