I see you posted after the markets have closed. Is this to give the wealthy Arabs thinking time?

I've got three to get rid of and paid £200 for each one, I think in the early 90's. Can remember exactly.

Don't know, but I'd like to think they are at least the same value (£200). Like many others, the shares were bought when the club needed money so it would nice if the club were prepared to buy them back for the same price.

I'm hoping someone on here might be able to provide some info.

I have 5 shares i would also like to sell. Don't remember paying anything like £200 ponds each for them. I did buy mine on the first issue though.

I have written to the club in the past asking for information, have never received any replies.

You need to start by finding someone who wants to buy them, that’ll be the hardest part.

Surely the value of the shares must be worth more now than the 90's given the comparable size and success of BFC now to what it was then.

I think Dave Fishwick was after buying a few, probably thought twice when realised you don't get any benefits.

I think the club sell them at £200 but minimum of 10 have to be bought.

I think you have to go through a broker as the deal has to be registered.

I sold some of my company shares some time ago and had to use a broker. They
market them for you but at a price by way of commission plus costs.

Don't the current board have first option on all share purchases ? Unless they buy them and sell them to other board members you will just get a nominal sum from the club. They are not a finacial investment more for voting rights etc and family heirlooms that sort of thing.

I think all you need to do is agree a deal and then ask the club to amend the shareholders register. There isn’t any need to involve brokers.

As far as know, BFC shares have been sold at a fixed price of £200 since time immemorial, regardless of how we were doing or what division we were in.

However, a few years ago the board introduced a new class of voting shares, which only they could own, thus disenfranchising the rest of the shareholder base and rendering the old shares effectively worthless. As far as I'm aware, there aren't even any perks attached to them anymore, and I haven't even received a copy of the accounts since, although these are, of course, a matter of public record.

It will be interesting to see what happens if the board ever wants to cash in and sell the club for what it surely must be worth now, because I'm convinced what they did was illegal.

An old thread that might help.

I googled "Burnley football club shares value" and also found this:

from 2016 and I have no idea if they are still at it.

Any transfer of shares requires permission from the board of directors - that's when you've found someone to buy them.

What's the point of buying 10 shares at £200 each from the club when they are effectively worthless, if that's what the club are prepared to sell?

No one owns shares in the club now. That all changed a few years ago (2014 I think) when we bought back the Turf and Gawthorpe. The old company (Burnley Football & Athletic Co Ltd) and a new company which owns the ground and Gawthorpe are now wholly owned by a holding company which has the shareholders.

The £200 price was set for the share issue in 1999. The previous share issue in the mid-80s was at a price of £15 per share.

Don't think there were ever any perks to owning shares, I've had mine for well over 30 years now and the only benefit ever was being able to attend the AGM, some of which were hilarious in the Teasdale days when the board were found out time and again by some shareholders. But I think the last AGM was in Dec 2012. There has certainly been one since Sean Dyche became manager.

I don't know anything about company law and the likes but I highly doubt anything was done illegally.

Out of curiosity ... The Abbey National gave a number of shares to the customers in 1987 £400 springs to mind how much would they be worth today I'm sure some one on here may know.

I can't remember the exact details, but if I remember, you had to stump up a six figure sum to participate in the new company - way beyond most of us. I did get a new share certificate for the new co but there are absolutely no rights attached to the class of shares the rest of us received, so to all intents and purposes, they have no value.

The reason I think it was dodgy is that, although there was shareholder vote, the vast majority of shares were held by the same people participating in the scheme, so it was a fait accompli. There are, nevertheless, laws to protect minority interests, which is what most of us were.

It could become an issue if the club were ever to be sold to, say, a foreign investor for tens of millions, as only the voting shareholders will benefit. You could argue that that is fair, as they stumped up to buy the ground back at the time (though don't forget it was Barry Kirby who owned it previously!) but those of us who bought the shares in good faith earlier are surely entitled to something - the club has never gone bust.

Abbey was bought by Banco Santander many years ago - you'll see all their old branches have been rebranded. Can't remember the details if how much but those who kept their original £400 would have made a good few grand - possibly five figures if I remember right.

Santander did them all a favour as they wouldn't have been worth anything like that when the crisis hit a few years later...

The directors didn't buy the ground back - the club did a scheme where some supporters loaned them money to buy it back. They are now listed in the programme as Turf Moor buy back associates. John B was the only director to put any money up although two on the list have subsequently become directors.

Those people we should be thankful to for putting up that money are:

Ann Maitland
Brian & Sandra Nelson
CBSAPF
David Sunter
Geoff Westmore
Harry Brooks
Jason Bannister
John Banaszkiewicz
John Ratcliffe
Mark Griffiths & Heather Brown
Martin Hobbs
Richard Sutton
Terry Crabb

I have one share which cost me £200 in 2008/9 when we went on our cup runs It was the only way I could guarantee a seat at away matches and the big home cup matches e.g. Spurs.

Still works! That's the benefit. The rest is that feeling that you have a slice if your club, although that is debatable!

For anyone interested, the full list of Shareholders as at 18.12.2016 and how many shares they have can be found at :-
https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/comp ... ng-history" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Then click on the Confirmation Statement pdf link date 23.2.2017

I found it interesting that people I would have expected to appear on the list through association don't.
