I seem to be plagued in the recent years of re-watching stuff on TV followed by people dying...
This time John Mahoney - AKA Frasiers dad Martin. A fellow Lancastrian I might add. Rest in peace old man!

Sadly, don't think this one is, it's being reported on all the reputable news outlets.
Great actor and played his role in Frasier brilliantly.
RIP 'Marty'

RIP, Frasier is a brilliant show because of him and the obvious rapport between them all.

Am I the only one who thought the original post referred to the former Stoke City and Wales midfielder?

No, that's who I thought it was when I saw the thread title.

Didn't know he was born in Blackpool, i understood he was from Manchester, hence the pub quiz question "which member of the Frasier cast comes from Manchester?", ie, not the one with the comedy Manc accent.
Just googled and it seems he grew up in Withington but was born in Blackpool after his family went to live there during the war. I also thought he'd be a lot older than that.
Great show anyway, best US sitcom ever.

Sad news that. Really like Frasier - they don't make them like that anymore!
Rest in peace.

Frasier is / was brilliant.
Marty was a great character and John Mahoney played him so well.
Niles Crane is one of my favourite characters ever.
I also thought John Mahoney was quite a bit older than 77 - that`s no age.

My favourite scene is when Martin's date has spent the night and there's a rather awkward scene in the kitchen with Frasier.

Not true. Born in Manchester and evacuated to Blackpool in the war and brought up there.

His family was evacuated to Blackpool from Manchester - and he was then born in Blackpool.
They all then went back to Manchester when he was young and that's where he went to school.

Brilliant comedy. I cant help but keep watching the re runs on CH4. YouTube has some great Frasier Bloopers, where John Mahoney is the star turn.
