FRIDAY'S RACING
Newcastle to follow
CHELMSFORD
16.45
LUV U WHATEVER ... Trading at 4.3 on Betfair...Tried to make all at Newcastle last time , never an easy thing to do , and got distracted by a deer on the track .. stable run two in the race. Has the back form to win this having won over CD off a mark of 95 in a class 2 .. runs of 67 in this class 5 . Could well make all

There is at least one better in the field. My money will go on that one.

your right about "value " being the the key to being profitable ..which is why I trade and don't back anymore. It's up to the individual to assess whether it's value at those odds .. quite a number of horses I've mentioned were "value " early in the day but the price went near the off .
Just my view on the race .. and the likely winner .. But like you say if you think it's not value at that price . then it's not worth you investing .. always back your opinion above anyone else's !!
Good point though

I don't understand trading - maybe have to give it a go one day, but cant see any advantage over backing at odds.

It's not as complicated as it sounds .. there's different types of trades .. scalping , swing trades etc . A lot you can do with automation. At its simplest it's laying a horse at at a certain price .. then backing at a greater price or vice versa .. Then greening up to close your trade across all the horses in the race .. this is before the race goes inplay.
You just profile the races your going to trade , look for market trends, order flow etc .. video below is a good example of a trade. Worth a look if your interested .. The video shows a trade on " the ladder interface " .. you can see the money in the market and when it's taken .. far more detailed then the betfair screen
It minimises risk and protects your bank .. and it's a lot more profitable in the long run .. and it's interesting .. and you don't need to know a lot about horse racing to make it pay
I should add there are other trading platforms apart from Betangel

Re: FRIDAY'S RACING
A lot of traders use Hugh Taylor , pricewise etc for back to lay trades.. because as you say they tend to shorten in priceWelshclaret wrote:One of Hugh Taylor's tips this. A lad in work backs them blind all the time. No value in his tips unless you're on at the right time. Looks like you missed the boat in terms of value.

Re: FRIDAY'S RACING
It's trading at 3.95 now .. but only £45,000 or so matched .. most of the real money and trades happen in the five mins or so before the off ..
it's the sort of horse inplay traders love .. a front runner

Re: FRIDAY'S RACING
Won nicely .. and on his back form was a very well handicapped horse ..was winning races this time last year off marks in the 80s.. and certainly know how to win and was running into form
Any horse that runs well after being up with the pace is always worth noting .. think that's the trainers first winner at Chelmsford
As I said up to the individual to decide whether it was value or not .. and whether to back it !!

Re: FRIDAY'S RACING
NEWCASTLE
Some small tricky fields and not a lot that appeals so just the one race covered ...
19.45
WAR OF SUCCESSION .... Trading at 8.0 on Betfair .. Makes the long journey from Devon and the trainers first runner here I think ..with Jamie Spencer booked ( only his second ride for the trainer in around 6 years ).. dropped down to its lowest ever mark of 62 after some disappointing shows since joining this yard
Placed form behind 100 rated horses like Fly at Dawn and Sir Dancealot earlier in his career. Hasn't looked looked as though he enjoys racing on occasions , but Jamie Spencer might kid him along .. one last chance ?
PADDY A .... Trading at 7.8 on Betfair .. another one that has shown little in recent races, but dropped down to a winnable mark ( has won off 67 ) .. this is a poor race with likely fav Joyful Star who won nicely herelast time having never won off a mark this high Trainer does well with his runners here 6 winners and nearly half placed from 30 runners in recent times.

CHELMSFORD
16.45
LUV U WHATEVER ...... WON 5/2
NEWCASTLE
19.45
WAR OF SUCCESSION .... UNPLACED
PADDY A .......................... 4th
Level stakes profit/loss of + 1/2 Pt on the day
War of Succession and Paddy A both showed much improved form to their previous runs , partly due to this being a very poor race and their current ratings .. both travelled well, for a long way .. I'd have more faith in Paddy A than War of Sucession who didn't find much when let down
