Re: New Combi Boiler Reqd,
I have worked in the gas industry for 31 years and I can confidently say ROWLS talks complete and utter sh#te.
My advice is -
Research the product / boilers and compare specifications. check the warranty, check replacement parts costs, use a recommended installer and if you want to save money on installation stay away from the likes of British Gas.
Don't get me wrong BG will do a good job and offer a great after service but you pay for the privilege.
You can pay £500 or £1500 for a boiler (plus installation) which essentially does the same job, but installers tend to stick with the product they like installing / repairing generally because it the easiest for them to work on. Installation cost vary depending on the condition not the existing heating system. Also installers have to follow manufacturers installation recommendations (like power flushing) or else the boiler warranty can be void.
I have a Potterton, but that's because I am on LPG and choices are limited. My boiler was the best performance Vs cost Vs warranty and cost £850.
Its been in 3 years and not missed a beat. But that isn't an endorsement its what has worked for me.
Most boiler manufacturers use the same group of companies to supply key components, therefore, I would stay away from the really cheap boilers because they tend to use old technology, cheap parts and end of line stock etc..... But that's my opinion.

Re: New Combi Boiler Reqd,
Get a Baxi duotec or platinum, duotec 7 year warranty platinum 10 year warranty.
Top quality aftermarket service from Baxi.
I only fit Baxi boilers, Worcester and Vaillant are overpriced and installers fit these for the kickbacks they get from the said companys

Re: New Combi Boiler Reqd,
You've got a Hive but he supplied and fitted Honeywell wireless control? Surely only one is controlling your boiler, not both.pureclaret wrote:Hi not saying this is cheap but British gas wanted to charge me £4,500 for this
• Baxi duotec ERP33kw (7 year warranty) £882.00
• Vertical flue £90.60
• 2 x flue elbow £73.10
• 2 x flue extension £82.80
• Roof flashing £33.50
• Magnaclean system filter £86.00
• Honeywell wireless control £114.50
• Consumables pipe fitting inhibitor £175.00
• Warranty Registration
• Gas Safe Building regulation Certificate
• Labour £375.00
Materials and labour £1912.50
I have a hive unit too that means i can switch on and off from mobile phone
Bloke who did mine is from rossendale
ABV plumbing called Richard on 07501018811.
Hes been back to service it and do a couple of other jobs for me around the house, works clean and took all old parts away and packaging even got out his own vacum.
Also this was in a bungalow and put in the loft i have easy access to it as boarded the floor. British gas wanted to move it to another part of the loft.
I know you can get things on line and save a little but for me I would not know what I needed so would either end up buying more than i needed so higher cost or not enough so having to pay for extra and that costs more.
