Ashley's fan tackle
Not a ball in sight - was he lucky to escape a yellow card there?

Only seen the pics of this... Anyone got a video?
Looks like the fan was lucky to escape with just a bruised ego when coming up against 'ar Ash!

Bloody funny near us.....we were sat on the 2nd row and a couple of old Hammers got dragged past by the stewards looking a combination of angry yet embarrassing.............
Silly sods.

Nothing given against Noble, so the ref couldn’t really take action against Barnes.Belgianclaret wrote:Not a ball in sight - was he lucky to escape a yellow card there?
Much as I dislike Lee Mason, he managed the events quite well.

Yes fair to Mason for once. Presuming he didn't play the required amount of injury time for safety reasonsmartintheaker wrote:Nothing given against Noble, so the ref couldn’t really take action against Barnes.

Re: Ashley's fan tackle
Both he and Noble should have walked. Neither of those fans were behaving aggressively towards players. Players should stay out of that situation unless the fan directly confronts them in a way that makes them feel unsafe; them getting involved can't help.

Re: Ashley's fan tackle
If you watch the video above you’ll see that the fan runs through the middle of a clutch of our players. All Ash does is trip him up so that the Stewards can catch him easier and we can get on with the business of finishing the game.thatdberight wrote:Both he and Noble should have walked. Noble deserves praise for his handling of the first interloper. I’d have been tempted to follow through with a ruddy good kick in the arse.

Re: Ashley's fan tackle
Ashley was a "have a go" hero - assisting in a "citizen's arrest" - and, of course, putting a stop to any further harm/mischief from the pitch invader.
When Noble tackled the first fan there was also intervention by Joe Hart, though he seemed to be pulling Noble away from the fan and, possibly, there were words exchanged between Noble and Hart that didn't help the WHU team.

Re: Ashley's fan tackle
When the "pitch invasions started" I was reminded of 1966 (it was Bobby Moore's 25th anniversary day): "Some people are on the pitch, they think it's all over..... it is now!" And, then Chris Wood scored our second, followed by our third.

Re: Ashley's fan tackle
So let me get this straight. Because Ash and Noble attempted to stop ILLEGAL pitch invaders they should have both been given a red card.thatdberight wrote:Both he and Noble should have walked. Seriously?
Do you also think that Ash and the other Burnley players who stopped the Blackburn inbred at Ewood earlier this season should have been dismissed as well?
If so, you sir are a clown.

Ash didn't see him coming, he has terrible peripheral vision, just the same as when he got accused of deliberately kicking Matic.

Both fans have registered claims of assault with the police.
In the eye of the law, both fans were assaulted, so it will be interesting how that progresses

Re: Ashley's fan tackle
The fans who managed to go on the pitch and back in the stands got walloped of their own fans. Maybe it's them who are claiming assault?Lowbankclaret wrote:Both fans have registered claims of assault with the police.

Re: Ashley's fan tackle
I bet you'd have double standards if it happened in your own back garden. If someone like these yobbos, with no right to be there, was running towards your friends and family, would you feel within your rights to trip them up and stop them? And before you answer, you aren't allowed to watch the video for half an hour and to check the yobbo has no concealed weapons.thatdberight wrote:Both he and Noble should have walked. Players should stay out of that situation unless the fan directly confronts them in a way that makes them feel unsafe; them getting involved can't help.
I'll put it another way. Suppose Monica Seles is playing a game of doubles tennis. Three yobbos leap over the fence and rush towards Monica. Only one of them has a knife, the other two are just random people with no intention other than spoil the game; but the three other players on the court each trip one up, so none of the three get to Monica, and she isn't stabbed in the back and her career isn't ruined. Would you agree that the two who tripped the random hooligans should be prosecuted? what about the one that stopped the would-be murderer?
Let's put it another way still. Could Ashley Barnes be certain that the yobbo wasn't carrying a knife or even a key in his hand?
Re: Ashley's fan tackle
Wouldn't that verdict have to wait for the trial?Lowbankclaret wrote:Both fans have registered claims of assault with the police.

Where you might be misunderstanding, is that the law does NOT say that you are not allowed to touch someone who is threatening you. You are allowed to use reasonable self-defence. And the law does NOT say that that defence must be proved after the event to have been reasonable with hindsight - if what you do seems to be reasonable at the time, then it'sd a valid defence.
Now, I don't know how badly hurt these two criminals were (I don't think we need wait for a verdict on whether they were illegally on the pitch; that's an open and shut case. They are definitely criminals). But I'm not aware that Barnes' "victim" was especially badly hurt - no broken bones, no knife wounds, nothing like that. Basically he fell over. So I don't think a court is going to take too seriously the idea that Barnes reacted unreasonably.
Here's a question - if you see a man running away from an old lady lying on the floor and a security guard running after him shouting "stop thief", would it be a criminal offence to trip him up?
Re: Ashley's fan tackle
Best tackle Ashley's ever made
i was a bit concerned the match could have been abandoned
specially when Mason went over to speak with the managers
Mason must have been telling them he wouldn't be adding time on for the invasions because he did not have the board shown or at least i did not see it
well done Mason

Yes I agree.
But the law is an arse now.
A bloke I worked with saved a woman’s life n Burnley center, he was a qualified first aider and did CPR when she collapsed with a heart attack.
She took him to court for touching her breast and assault as he broke one of her ribs keeping her alive.
The judge only threw the case out when both paramedics who took over from him said she would definitely be dead if he had not intervened for the 6 minutes he worked on her.
Self defence would be an argument but the pictures show he was clearly running past Ash.
People are also correct it is probably when they returned to the stands, I have now seen one of the blokes got punched when he went back to his own fans. They were not amused.
