Burnley 0-2 Scunthorpe in one of Laws' last games was awful.

Sheffield United 3-0 Burnley (around 2000/2001 - my first ever away game) with gazza pinging balls straight to the opposition was one to forget as well...

Torquay away in the play-offs (my car broke down)
WAtford away in the FA cup
Gillingham home in the league 5-0?
but...

Rochdale at home in the league in possibly 1990. We lost 1-0 in the pouring rain against 9 men.

p.s. Gillingham away in 93????? A Tuesday evening match. Think we lost 3-0 (Hasenthaler player/manager) and to top it off the coach broke down when we got back to Crawshawbooth around 2am.

You're right, it was.

I must've blanked one out of my mind

I remember some fans singing 5 nil and you've effed it up at City when we got the one back.

Laws left the next day, some of the players that day should have been ashamed of themselves, in particular Bikey. It was a performance that said we want the manager sacked. We'd just won at Barnsley too.

Only Burnley game I have ever come off at half time. Scored twice late on. To cap it all Colin had taken over from Stan at Bury and Preece scored 2.
Forget lots' of games but do remember that Boxing day, always look forward to games around Christmas, but looking back it seems like a nightmare.
It was so cold and wet as well.
What an awful day that was.

I have a slightly different recollection of Gazza that day. I seem to recall him stumbling about and simply allowing the Shef Utd players to take it from him.

I will accept that my memory may be inaccurate; I was the only person in the ground that day who was more ****** than Gazza.

Remember the Cambridge game in 1987 as it was the first time my son, aged 6 at the time, came with me. He now lives in Guildford so the last time we attended a game together was our no show at Palace in January! I'd forgotten how dire some of the games under Stan were. Was it Doncaster who beat us 1 0 on the day he sacked 3 players live on Radio Blackburn?

Cheltenham away in the cup immediately springs to mind! We stayed for the week end and had a brilliant time UNTIL the footy started!! Lots of Clarets turned up and it was completely embarrassing to be made fun of by bloody Cheltenham fans! (Who???)

Boxing day 1984 York City away lost 4 -0 was the 'John Benson' season, have followed our great club home and away for over 45 years and this must rate as the worst I have seen! Luckily we went for the day out in fancy dress with copious sherberts on the way, that helped mask the fact we had Les Lawrence upfront!!

I saw one under Howe in 2012, when Rhodes was playing for them. That was worse. Then the one under Dyche that you mentioned when Duff got sent off. Weird one that, we were crap in the first half but if it wasn't for their penalty when the ball hit Duff in the ribs two yards outside the box we'd have somehow got a point. I think Edgar may have made his last appearance in midfield there. It certainly should have been anyway.

Agreed. I had just got home from Iraq. Drove down from Burnley with 1 mate and met up with a few others down there. What a welcome home that was......

Some really depressing performances and results looking back.
These stick in the mind:
Burnley 0 Hereford 6
Blackburn 5 Burnley 0
Burnley 1 Man City 6
And the 0-5 and 0-6 v Gillingham and Man City

Peterborough away 1987 5-0 only positive about the whole day was my mate Neil won £50 on a slot machine. Also the season after we got a battered 3-0 and the following season 4-1. Peterborough ffs.
Wolves away 1987 3-0 two out of the five of us in the car got arrested, before the game, not sure who got the worse deal.
Stockport away 1988 2-0 thumping on a Friday evening and a whack on the way back, sneaky bastards at Stockport.
Wolves Sherpa van final maybe the performance wasn't bad, because Wolves were so good, but one of the worst feelings after any football match watching Burnley.
Lincoln beat us 4-1 in the 88/89 season, truly awful season, that had started quite well. Scarborough home and away got beat, and an end of season away thumping at Crewe, notable mentions for a battering away at Exeter and Orient.

Going for a lie down now, thankfully it does get better from here on in, at least we started getting batterings from better sides.

70 posts and no mention of Grimsby 6 - 5 Burnley. We scored 5 goals and it was still the most shocking performance I've seen....

Yes. Think Devon White might have scored a hat trick. I've got a vague memory of Andy Saville making his debut but i could be wrong on that

That was the first time i got thrown out of a ground. It was kicking off with police all afternoon. There were some seats damaged in the stand down the side and i had an air horn which was seen to be inciting trouble. I was forcibly dragged out by 2 coppers and into a cell. I spotted a coach through the door and blagged that it was the one i had travelled on and i could get on it and save them some trouble. Fortunately they bought it and kicked me out.

At 2-0 we had a Vokes goal controversially disallowed and then Ings did pull one back with quite a bit left on the clock. We put them under some pressure. Not a great day, especially in terms of what we've become used under SD, but nowhere near the "worst performance ever top 20 compilation" I'd suggest.

Like Notts said you would be spoilt for choice if you were picking from the 80's, so I chose a recent one.

Luckily for us we only really throw one of them sorts of performances per season (West Brom last season, Swansea this).

Another recent-ish one was Doncaster away in Coyle's season. Grezza's worst ever game for us, I don't think he completed a pass all through the first half.

I left at half time.

Torquay away..1985 I think..lost 2-0.. We were awful...Tommy Cassidy was playing for us( abysmally I might add) he got a volley of abuse from a younger me for lack of effort ,not fit to wear the shirt etc..when he came near the stand I was sat in with the old chaps in the home end...they thought it was funny...the game was dire but chatting to them at the end they thought it was a good game..... Living down south I fell out of love with Burnley for a while...it came back towards the end of the '87 season when it dawned on me I could lose them forever

Burnley 0-0 Luton

Burnley 0-0 Middlesbrough
Burnley 0-1 Huddersfield

Clarke Carlisle against Portsmouth after he'd been on Countdown.
I realise it was probably recorded months before but the publicity must have gone to his head.

I remember going to Crewe during the title winning season of 91-92, and we lost 1-0. I don't remember that much about the actual game, but my abiding memory is of a neanderthal 'man' punching a woman at the front of the terrace, for challenging him about urinating next to where she was stood.

I was at that Chester game too. Paul Comstive scored for them, if I remember rightly :(

Carlisle away. January 96 was a bad one, got beat 5-0 in the auto glass.
The future looked bleak with Teesdale and his cronies running the club

Luckily we went for the day out in fancy dress with copious sherberts on the way, that helped mask the fact we had Les Lawrence upfront!!
That day at York I was given a ticket outside by Keith McNee from the Lancashire Evening Telegraph but it was in the press box and I sat between him and the Burnley Express reporter. That should have been Granville Shackleton but he was unwell and had been replaced by Jimmy McIlroy. It is the only time I have ever sat next to Jimmy Mac at a match and I can confirm he never said a word all afternoon, he just shook his head and tut tutted at the abysmal mess in front of him.

If that was bad, we went to Bristol Rovers towards the end of the season and lost 4-0. That was even worse, a horrible performance. I wouldn't say Benson had lost the plot by then, I don't think he ever had it.

Certainly agree with them. The games however were over a two week period not 7 days.
We were due to play Wigan on the Saturday after Gillingham but it was postponed. City was the Tues after that. I don’t think they were that good then so we might have got away with a 3 or 4 nil defeat.

Those immediately sprang to my mind. The second of those games was the only game where I have left before the final whistle!

The other that springs to mind was a 3-0 reverse at Exeter in the pouring rain. Made worse by the fact it was a rearranged game after the original was postponed just as we arrived at the ground!

A lot of the performances mentioned above still give me nightmares but in the context of how far we have come in recent years I was very underwhelmed by the cup defeat to Lincoln last season.

I remember that oxford game, it was a shocker. Sure it was billy whitehurst that came off the bench after we’d been goading him but my memories not the best!
