3-4 if he's got any sense.
Pope, Tarks, Mee & Cork.

Re: England squad to be announced at 2 p.m. today
I think Tarky is the most likely, followed by Pope.
Re: England squad to be announced at 2 p.m. today
I can see it just being Tarkowski, hope I'm wrong tho, a few more deserve recognition

If Angus Gunn gets the nod over Nick Pope then you have to ask serious questions of both Southgate and the selection process. That would be a complete joke!

Am expecting a selection of out of form "experienced" players, some yes men and some players from the old U21's and U23's who haven't made the grade.

Re: England squad to be announced at 2 p.m. today
The biggest nonsense will come if he actually selects Glenn Murray.
I was going to start writing an article for this afternoon but it is pointless, I'd have to write too many versions. I'll just await the announcement but speculation suggests we should be confident re: Pope & Tarkowski.

Would go for just Tarkowski I reckon. Think Hart/Gunn will end up being called up over Pope. Could argue that Lascelles and Dunk will have more chance than me. Interested to see if he calls up a 23 man squad or 30.
Glenn Murray deserves it if we're calling players up based on form, can't argue against his stats this season in a team that was expected to struggle.

He's 34 and as slow as a cart horse and, other than pens, he's scored 7 Premier League goals this season. There is nothing there to suggest he should be getting a call up.Milltown1882 wrote:Glenn Murray deserves it if we're calling players up based on form, can't argue against his stats this season in a team that was expected to struggle.

11 goals this season, a goal every 157 minutes (better than Vardy) it doesn't matter how he's scored them he's still scored them. As I said if it's based on form then he is deserving of a call up, I agree with the slow as a cart horse comment but think it's an unfair assessment given the amount of goals he has scored this season. Who would you recommend instead?

Ryan Mason on SSN just now and I have to agree with him that we have the best two keepers in the country at the moment for both form and all round performances.

4 forwards from those available is difficult, but for me would have to go with Vardy, Rashford, Wellbeck (experience and decent on his day) and you could make a claim for the fourth shockingly being Murray as he scores goals, Wilson (pace and power and can score) or even our Ash as he is in form offers something different to the rest and is younger than Murray.
All in all without Kane it looks scary. BTW I would class Stirling and Lingaard as midfielders.

Laughable that anyone can trumpet Barnes for a call up and dismiss Glenn Murray.

I'm the one that has dismissed Murray and I've not trumpeted Barnes - so no one to laugh at from what I can see. Having said that, I do think Barnes would be a better bet than Murray. Surely we are not going to select him.UpTheBeehole wrote:Laughable that anyone can trumpet Barnes for a call up and dismiss Glenn Murray.

Wellbeck has never let England down and Rashford is the future alongside Kane.
I would sooner pick Ryan Sessengon than Glen Murray and move him from left back to forward!!! (Could be our Bale moment).
Failing that who do you pick? None of the youngsters have earnt their chance yet. Maybe Calvert Lewin but thats just a desperate suggestion. Perhaps Barnes could make it after all?

No idea - but it is 7 in open play. If he is deserving of a call up then we're going backwards.Milltown1882 wrote:11 goals this season, a goal every 157 minutes (better than Vardy) it doesn't matter how he's scored them he's still scored them. The Under 21 squad will probably give a good indication of who will be involved when that is released before the senior announcement. James Ward-Prowse could be another one getting a call up, he's been in the Under 21s since about 1996.
Just read on Sky Sports Wilshere will be back in so doubt Cork will be involved.

From Reuters "Suggestions that Pope and Tarkowski could be in the England squad. Neither of them were even first-team starters at Burnley this time last year."

Deserved but not necessarily rewarded.
I am not holding my breath. Southgate likes players from his time with the young players.
Makes it look like he guided them all through to success.

Superb news - well done Nick Pope and Tarky!!
Shame about Mee's exclusion again but, hand on heart, Tarkowski is a better footballer than Mee and I think this may ultimately hold Mee back from international recognition.

I'll wait until 2pm before celebrating but there was talk last week that he would select Pope and Gunn. Probably to take his staffs advice on them.
Tarks will probably get the nod but Ben Mee as a left side defender should be closer than I believe he is.

I don't think Calvert-Lewin is a desperate suggestion. He looks a very good prospect. He's played a lot of games for Everton this season and shows promise. I'd call up Vardy, Rashford and Calvert-Lewin in this squad. Absolutely no point in calling up Murray, Crouch or Defoe as they offer nothing for the future. I'd be tempted to take those three and Kane to the WC personally.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Without Kane we are very short.
