Re: Financial fair play
I'll say it even slower
Blackburn Rovers are a club that only achived success because of the generosity of one man. That man is gone and you have a different club these days, but still with the massive stadium you cannot ever fill. You can't hope to replicate what he did and you can't pretend that your club hasn't been changed by it.
Without the Venkys, you would be screwed. I haven't been on BRFC for a while, but whenever someone who knew what they were talking about talked about the accounts at Rovers, it was lost in a chaff of posts blaming it all on the Venkys. And still, STILL, despite absolutely no evidence whatsoever, some think your relegations and being hilariously **** for years is some FA plot.
And then you come on, trying to tell us that crap that probably sounds great on the Riverside when you are 3-0 down to whoever, but doesn't cut it in the real world.
You lot have always been delusional about your past, and it doesn't help you deal with the realities of the present.

Re: Financial fair play
They didn't fill it regularly during that title season either, they struggled to fill it regularly when their season tickets were amongst the cheapest in the top flight.
Re: Financial fair play
Absolutely true. Jacks biggest mistake was changing the plans for ewood. It was originally going to be a 22,000 seated that looked a bit like Middlesbrough's ground. Jack felt that too small as he felt rovers would become Lancashire's man utd. He made a lot of decisions with his heart instead of his head.Sidney1st wrote:They didn't fill it regularly during that title season either, they struggled to fill it regularly when their season tickets were amongst the cheapest in the top flight.

Re: Financial fair play
Thing is Saxo, he died
He did want he could to make you lot successful, and it was unrealistic to expect it to continue after his death.
its about time some of your fanbase understood that

Re: Financial fair play
What a lot Rovers fans can't seem to realise is that, the position they are in now a product of a chain reaction from the 1990's. After Jack Walker invested his millions and fulfilled the dream, Blackburn Rovers were finding it difficult to become less reliant one financial resource. The rest of the Walker family wasn't interested and there was no-one with enough business sense mould the club into a self-sufficient football club, because they didn't have the attendances and the commercial income than the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle and Leeds etc to recoup the outlays.
Chelsea and Manchester City have managed to do this, I believe. They are clubs that can be handed over to new potential owners now without the need of a Sugar Daddy anymore. Only mismanagement can bring them crashing down really.

So you accused us of always having a higher out going transfer than incoming and you're just the same.Saxoman wrote:Andy Cole 8m.
I never thought ours would be near enough double on both accounts though.

Re: Financial fair play
As much as I dislike these pointless arguments, as the hard headed blue just spouts more and more nonsense, Jack Walker loved his club and put his heart, soul and personal wealth into it. Many of us have claimed that we would do the same.Saxoman wrote:Terrible comment.
If it hadn't been for his ill health, things may still have been massively different to they are now. We'll never know, but he did what he did because he loved Blackburn Rovers.
That is the first and last time I will ever take issue in favour of Saxo.

Re: Financial fair play
Saxo you talk absolute crap. Rovers/Walker were signing the likes of Ossie Ardiles and Steve Archibald as early as 1988 to try and get promoted and constantly failed so all this you started spending in the 90s is utter ********. In the early 90s Walker simply upped the ante even more to guarantee promotion. And then the silly old sod got absolutely ******* daft with the cheque book and you thickheads became entitled and now you've ended up back at square one but even deeper in the shite.

Re: Financial fair play
So what did we learn?
Blackburn were being financially supported by a mystery benefactor in the mid-late 1980’s (its in their accounts) to try to buy promotion.
Jack Walker eventually took control in January 1991 and saved them from relegation to the 3rd Division with two signings, paying out sizeable fees for the time and situation.
Jack then bankrolled Rovers climb to promotion, which they tried to mess up, and only just scraped into the play offs.
They then set about outspending the rest of the league to buy the title. They almost messed that up too, relyingnon the claret’s to do them a favour.
Doing what they did set Blackburn on the opposite trajectory that had been intended, meaning the end result was always going to be what it is.
Let that be a lesson for you, Blackburn.
