Yes, numbnuts, the officiating in friendlies is a little bit more relaxed than in Champions League quarter-finals. Why does this surprise you?

Re: Madrid vs Juve
Turtle is right.
Why add time for something that has happened whilst play is stopped and during 5 mins of nonsense? He stops play with 30 seconds left and plays at least that after the pen is taken.
It’s a penalty. Soft but I don’t think the striker actually knew he was there so no blame on him. Defender realises he’s likely to head in so takes a chance and it backfires.
As much as I like Buffon and the romance of his saving the penalty. He had to walk for that reaction.

Re: Madrid vs Juve
You can actually argue he’s added time for the sending off as there is 8 plus minutes ‘played’.
Re: Madrid vs Juve
If you watch it back his reaction is over the top but I think he walks because Oliver feels a shove in his back. Watch closely as the Juve players swarm behind Buffon and push him into the ref. Still a sending off but I think Oliver assumed Buffon had shoved him in the back.arise_sir_charge wrote:Turtle is right.

When falling to the floor is the decisive part of the match, it makes you wonder why you bother watching football in the first place. And that Ronaldo's celebration after the penalty was shameless. Seen e penalty a few times now. It's a tough one. Very soft but i can seen why it's given as the defender goes in from behind.
All i can say with any certainty is if that's Mee on Aubameyang at the Emirates it's given but if it's Mustafi on Wood it isn't!

Re: Madrid vs Juve
The game I've enjoyed the most this season was the draw at home with City. They were the better team, went ahead but we dug in, held on, had a bit of luck but managed to find a way to get a goal at the end. Hardly any of the usual Premier League play acting, refereed fairly well - a proper game of football. Then you get games like Arsenal at home, Spurs at home, City away and the game last night where a decent contest is ruined by the referee awarding the softest of penalties, engineered by the player waiting for, then exaggerating a touch that they would otherwise hardly notice to win a penalty and change the game.
Maybe the idea is to drive people like me away from the sport and usher in a new generation of supporters who prefer the theatre, are happy to sit quietly, pay the going rate and watch a bunch of over-paid actors play out a pre-determined pantomime. It's turning into the new Saturday afternoon wrestling.
I've cancelled Sky and don't miss it. I have BT Sport as part of my internet package and tuned in last night at 0-2. I wish I hadn't. If it wasn't for Burnley I could quite happily not watch a Premier League game all season. The Champions League is worse and I can't wait for the World Cup this summer where on top of everything else we'll have the lunacy that is VAR to contend with.

Not the first game I have ever seen in my life but, true, I very rarely watch Champion's League because a) the format is rigged and they are not even all champions of their domestic leagues b) it feels more like a Hollywood spectacle than a football game with all that stupid music and fireworks and c) decisions like last night's just leave me feeling cheated.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote:‘Softest penalty in the world’ is a slight exaggeration unless tonight was the first ever game you have seen in your life.

Definite penalty for me. The way the Juve players were jostling Oliver was shocking, they should receive punishment for that. Buffon wouldn't stop mouthing off after he was told to walk and should receive further punishment for that. I thought Oliver did well under the circumstances.

I said more or less the same to my wife yesterday. I was wondering at what point it starts pushing fans away from the sport. I also said the same about it basically being a show like wrestling. You can't watch a game for more than a couple of minutes nowadays without seeing a player diving and/or feigning injury in order to deceive the referee. Not enough is done about it and that's my biggest criticism of UEFA and the FA. It should have been stamped out a long time ago.Maybe the idea is to drive people like me away from the sport and usher in a new generation of supporters who prefer the theatre, are happy to sit quietly, pay the going rate and watch a bunch of over-paid actors play out a pre-determined pantomime. I also think it would be naive of us to underestimate how corrupt UEFA is and how much the results of certain big games are guided to a particular outcome. If that's indeed the case then the truth will out eventually. Mind you, it's probably me just being paranoid.
Re: Madrid vs Juve
With all due respect - I think that’s utter sh-ite !beddie wrote:Definite penalty for me. The way the Juve players were jostling Oliver was shocking, they should receive punishment for that. Oliver saw he was on the big stage and just like the referee in the City game he wanted to make the game all about him.
You could tell from the reaction of Vasquez that he played for it - the only thing he did not do was the Ronaldo wink !
The Juve defender had his hand on his back - he did not push him but as soon as he felt it he flung himself to the floor. Very much like Ramsay against us - completely unnatural to fall like that with so little contact. The exaggeration is blatant cheating.
As for Buffons’ and the Juve players reaction - what do you expect given the magnitude of the decision and the game ? I doubt that there would be one of the top European teams who would have reacted any differently. Again Oliver was pathetic in sending off Buffon - he had lost control and did not know what to do. To doubly penalise Juve like he did was disgraceful.
How the hell Oliver got a game like that to referee is beyond me - hopefully his display means he won’t get another. I thought that no English referee was going to the World Cup ? So how does he get that game ?

I have to say that I was very surprised when I saw he was referee. It's a valid question to ask how he gets a champions league quarter final but isn't deemed good enough for any stage of the world cup. Unsure how they're chosen though and whether there is different criteria.TVC15 wrote:How the hell Oliver got a game like that to referee is beyond me - hopefully his display means he won’t get another. Buffons View
"I know the referee saw what he saw, but it was certainly a dubious incident. Not clear-cut. And a dubious incident at the 93rd minute when we had a clear penalty denied in the first leg, you cannot award that at this point.
"The team gave its all, but a human being cannot destroy dreams like that at the end of an extraordinary comeback on a dubious situation.
"Clearly you cannot have a heart in your chest, but a bag of rubbish. On top of that, if you don't have the character to walk on a pitch like this in a stadium like this, you can sit in the stands with your wife, your kids, having your drink and eating crisps.
