I've just been checking the Russian league table. Anyone fancy a trip to SKA-Khabarovsk? Lovely little place on the east coast. A mere 7,193 miles away - which puts it slightly further away than Hawaii.

No ticket allocation problems for that one,. I shouldn't think! :D (Especially as they're bottom of the league and can't qualify. All the actual Russian qualifiers and potential qualifiers are in Europe.)

I don't see Premier games as more demanding than Championship games. If a player is playing at the top of his ability and giving all of his effort, it's as demanding whatever division he is in. Are Accrington Stanley players less tired than Burnley players, just because they're in a lower division? For that matter, are they less mentally refreshed or prepared for football because they have had more long trips, travel less comfortably, and stay in much cheaper hotels than Burnley? A lot of this is in the mind. Footballers don't suffer because their hotel doesn't have fluffy bathrobes and the breakfast buffet is self-service; but if they believe they're suffering by it, their form will dip.

Some of our fans need to go and join the prawn sandwich brigade at Old Trafford where they can whinge all day long like the soft jessies they are about their poor tired and fatigued players

A few seasons at the top table and the attitude and reaction off some of our fans to getting into Europe is embarrassing. Bring on the summer and the backwaters of Europe cos Burnley are back!!

It's nothing to do with the extra fixtures. We could build an ample squad and not qualify for the finals and by January we have too many players.

Yet at the start we play games on a Thursday. You can't play a player more than 45 mins on Thursday and have him play 90 on Saturday.

No team that plays on a Thursday has to play on a Saturday.

Chester Perry wrote:It is as much about mental fatigue and game preparation as anything - travelling seriously messes up your ability to rest and refresh (I have done a lot of that for work it is the worst part of the job). The level of concentration to play at these high levels is immense and our game plan is so dependent on not making mistakes and being fully focused. Not being mentally refreshed and prepared is a huge factor for the Thursday/Sunday clubs.

Also factor in that a lot of these clubs are not in major cities, so hotels and airports are often of very different standards and or further away from the grounds.

It would do us no harm to bring in specialists to help players with these issues and explains why so many big clubs are incorporating sleeping facilities at their training grounds for their players
This nails it.

I traveled around Europe for work and do the same out here in the States- and frankly, it’s knackering. You’re not at 100% mentally or physically for the next day or 2- I think anyone who doesn’t understand the impact can’t have traveled much (for work- not a p1ss up). That’s not to say you can’t function (or to some degree mitigate the challenges with mental toughness or a change in routine that helps preserve energy)- but it’s very relevant in highly competitive team sport, where games are decided by fine margins; subtle tactics, energy levels, staying mentally alert for 96 mins etc.

Extra travel and games, RELATIVE to the team you’re playing becomes significant a disadvantage as the season wears on. Better to be (say) a Watford with a full week of rest- playing a team in the Europa league (Burnley?) on a Sunday, with an extra game / trip home across Europe and the toll that takes. Less energy in the body, less mental focus, more likely to pick up injuries and crucially- less preparation time.

Having said all of that, I absolutely want us to embrace it- should we make it- otherwise, what are we in existence for? I think we’re mentally tougher than most sides- and I’d back our Management team to plan for and handle it better than many.

What an achievement it would be…..but I’d expect our PL season to suffer.

So, in a nutshell. Finish 6th, Arsenal lose to Athletico (very likely) and Southampton lose to Chelsea (very likely) we don't have to bother with qualifying against a bunch of sheep farmers or part time post men.

Happy times :)

I'll draw the line at an Israeli team or any of the other teams from Asia.

Romania and Bulgaria will be absolutely baking in July, so don't forget your sun cream, Burnley bucket hats and shorts.

When would we fit in the famous dyche pre season... You know, that thing that has been at the centre of our success, the thing that new players struggle if they miss out on it, when will all these new players we are going to sign to bolster the squad be able to get "dyche fit"? Or are we going to throw away key things that have made us successful.

If we were to catch Chelsea and finish 5th, what advantage would that give us over finishing 6th as both would put us in the group stages without having to qualify?

I believe seeding is based on Uefa's club coefficients and not how they qualify. I could be wrong on this though.

I'm not wrong.

Here are last season's seedings per round. We don't have any Uefa coefficient points (because we haven't played in any UEFA competitions in the last 5 seasons, inc. this one) so we'll be unseeded no matter where we enter.

Edit: ok i'm kinda wrong.

UEFA club coefficients are determined by club points over the past 5 years + 20% of the country coefficient of the past 5 years. So if we qualify, we will have 15.192 points, which will be enough for seeding in the second and probably third qualifying rounds; possibly not for the 4th.

Looking at the current League Tables, Lausanne are currently in a Europa League slot and Eintracht Frankfurt just outside one. Napoli look like they will be in the CL and Stuttgart are nowhere near qualifying for anything.

So we could play 2 of the 4 teams we played in 1967? Though Frankfurt have a lot to do.

As far as the European Cup campaign of 1961 goes though - Rheims are not in the top division and Hamburg SV are about to be relegated so no reunions there.

Europa League 2017/18 Prize Money

Post by OssyClaret » Wed Apr 18, 2018 1:07 pm

Exciting times for us fans, the opportunity to follow Burnley abroad wasn't one I was ever expecting. Roll on Prague, Amsterdam, Marseille or Riga...

The experiences will be something we can't attach a value to but financially the Europa League isn't going to be of great benefit to the club... (apologies if this has already been posted)

UEFA Europa League 2017-18 Prize Money

Qualifying & Playoffs €215,000 for first qualifying round, €225,000 for second qualifying round, €220,00 for third and €235,000 for play-off losing teams who won’t qualify for group stages

Participation Bonus €2.6 million (Guaranteed) for each 40 teams who play in the group stages

Performance Bonus €360,000 for every win & €120,000 for a draw

Group Stage Bonus €600,000 to group winners and €300,000 for group runnerups

Round of 32 €500,000 for each of the 32 teams

Round of 16 €750,000 for each of the 16 teams

Quarter-Finals €1 million for each of the 8 teams

Semifinals €1.5 million for each of the four semifinalists

Runnersup €3.5 million for runners-up team

Winners €6.5 million for winners

Potential Total Winner of 2017-18 Europa League can earn between €15 to €17 from “performance related” pot.

Plus Market pool money which can elevate total earnings of winners from England, Spain, Germany or Italy around €40 million (prize money + market pool)

You sound like an Arsenal fan.

It's still big money for little old Burnley. Getting to the group stage would enable us to re-imburse all Season ticket holders for instance.

That's the last demographic of people I'd want to sound like. An Arsenal fan with their sense of entitlement.

I'm just being realistic on the financial implications of it. It's hardly the golden ticket that will allow us to compete any different financially.

This is Dyche’s audition for the England job or other top job, to prove he can do it against continental tactics.

I thus hope he won’t do his usual thing and not prioritise the cups. He must be the worst manager in our history in cups, and one of the best in the league.

With the seeding we will have (well done to the Clarets above who have spelled it out) there is an excellent chance of getting to the group stages if we take it seriously, though 12 European games would then we quite draining.

When do they make teams play Thursday Sunday when the premier league regularly has matches on a Monday night? Just strikes me as a bit daft to penalise the teams in Europe that way when they've generally then got almost a week off.

Looking at Arsenal's fixtures they've had 3 games where the flights would have been about 6 hours. That's a long enough flight for it to ruin your day. I agree with the guys who've said that travelling is tiring but I find it particularly so when you've to try and arrive for a certain time or you can't leave before a certain time. I would hope that the club would be able to fit flights into their own schedule and avoid having anyone needing to be up earlier than usual in the morning.

IF we do qualify for the Europa league then I hope that the club will sort out direct flights, it would be way better for the fans and for the players.

I'm sure Arsenal charter their own plane, and I would have thought we will too. If we could manage it for Brighton in the third division, we'll manage it for EWuropean competition!

I’d like Aberdeen or Rangers in the early rounds.

Would be ideal for us to ease into it and both would be great trips.

Would be ideal for us to ease into it and both would be great trips.

What broad horizons you have.

So how is the whole thing actually drawn? I presume its a case of seeds and a draw rather than "team from league X plays qualifying team from league Y" but i dont actually know, I never had too before :o

So you’d prefer someone in Russia or Eastern Europe that’s impossible to get to.

Very few accessible clubs for us in the early rounds.

First and second round are drawn at the same time as far as I can make out.

That would mean winner of A vs B plays C.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

As previous, fixtures in the Premier League are much more physically demanding, as we spend longer periods without possession.

It's not the Australian outback or the Congolese jungle.

Both Milan clubs currently sitting in the EL spots with 5 games to go in their league. AC looking at a qualifying round game.

We won't get Milan in the 2nd qualifying round, which is the round we might be in - both us and Milan would be seeded.
