Campbell was the Political Editor of the " Daily Mirror ", under the ownership of Maxwell. He was known to be fiercely loyal to him, even launching into a physical attack on Michael White, the " Guardian's " Political Correspondant on being teased about his devotion. He worked for the Mirror Group over two spells from 1981-1993...hampsteadclaret wrote:17.. the thread is about AC.

25.. Re the alleged ‘loyalty’ to Maxwell.
I don’t know.
I suppose he was taken in by the lying, two- faced, duplicitous, conniving, hypocritical Maxwell like the rest of us. He’s not missed, good riddance to him.
Back to AC.
He was Blair’s right hand man in winning 3 General Elections with majorities of 179, 167 and 66.
They walked away unbeaten.
They left the UK in a much better place than they found it ( see majorities above).
Of course they made mistakes, every government does.
Before that he had a decent career in journalism and is still a highly respected pundit and author even if you don’t agree with his take on things.
This is against a background of serious health issues around depression which have been well documented.
Most important of all he bats for Burnley FC whenever he opens his mouth. He is an excellent Burnley supporter. We have all seen him at far-flung away grounds. I don’t need to provide examples do I of the positive manner in which he constantly backs and champions the football club...?
I don’t really get the nasty abuse and unwarranted flak that he always gets from a few on here... to me it’s small minded and unnecessary.

No they didn't leave the country in a better place.
I agree he doesn't deserve abuse if watching with his family and to be fair he does try to promote us ( as does John Kettley). The club however should not elevate him to some kind of official spokesperson or no1 fan when not everyone agrees with him being the former and when he isn't the latter.

Re: Alistair Cambell on Newsnight tonight
So how many of you present day Blair/Campbell haters mocked the Stop the War Coalition and similar organisations ?
Did you oppose the war ? Why not ?
How many of you quite happily swallowed every damn lie that that Government - and the others since - have peddled about "just" conflicts, so, so eager to send "Our Boys" into yet another pointless war?
At least May and Co realise they can only get away with pretending to pi$$ about with Russia, trying to make it look as if they have some kind of clue about anything. Gone kinda quiet about the poisoned Russian agent "outrage", hasn't it ?
There's hope yet that the public aren't quite as stupid or as gullible as the Government think but not much, I fear.

Re: Alistair Cambell on Newsnight tonight
I really don’t get the hostility. He has always stood up for what he believes in. No one is any doubt as to his position. He is loyal to those around him and he was a success in his field. You don’t have to agree with him. You don’t have to like him. But frankly a few more with those qualities on both sides of the political fence would make life politics much better
Back in the 80s - when he had a bit on his plate- I bumped into him as the only other guy in a suit getting the train to places like Swindon for evening footy. A more charming man with his kids you couldn’t find.

The man who ranted endlessly on Twitter about Trump when he was accused of being a sex pest yet wouldn't utter a word when asked for his views on Brendan Cox when he admitted to being one. That's Madeleine Albright admitting live on, prime time, tv in the USA, that 500,000 innocent Iraqi children had been killed during the invasion of said country.
Hampstead claret on a football message board, desperate to defend his left wing hero says "no"
The former Secretary of State of The USA says, "yes"
Interviewer - Do you think it ( the death of 500,000 children) was a price worth paying?
Albright - yes.
Hampstead "the superior" Claret - And despite "sexing up" a document on which the British army was sent into Iraq, my hero Alistair Campbell had absolutely nothing to do with it. He and my other hero Tony Bliar had zero to do with a illegal war. No blood on their hands. I'm having non of it.!

Get over your self.
And while you're trying to do it. Why don't YOU, "STFU for a while, and consider how you can lose the title of this forum's most" self righteous, supercilious, self-awareness lacking, king of self aggrandizement poster.
Why not starting posting on the New Statesman message board or contributing the weekly news letter of Islington branch of the Alastair Campbell fan club, or war criminal monthly? You'll be amongst like minded apologists, and I'm sure your lofty pronouncents and pontificating would be far more appreciated than wasting time, throwing pearls of wisdom to those far less superior than your eminence.

Thanks for the 23 second link showing Madeleine Albright....I didn't think she looked very much like Alastair Campbell, so I don't get your confusion..

Thanks for the 23 second link showing Madeleine Albright....I didn't think she looked very much like Alastair Campbell, so I don't get your confusion..![]()
- she can say what she likes I guess, she is outside my gaze.
You can put up as many YouTube videos of American politician's as you like, I thought the thread was about a prominent BFC supporter..
- and you still can't spell his name properly [just rude] even though I did the hard work for you in post 13 - it's Alastair.
Keep up.
When somebody is so desperate as to focus on an auto spell mistake you know it's game over for them.
Have a great day being far far superior to most mortals and apologising for a lying war criminal!

Re: Alistair Cambell on Newsnight tonight
This message board is populated by utter wanchors of every political stripe, all of whom could start an argument in an empty house. There’s more willy-waving on here than in all the toilets on Hampstead Heath.

Re: Alistair Cambell on Newsnight tonight
Does that stop him being a political giant?? (For good or for bad).joey13 wrote:When you say political giant ,don’t you mean an unelected civil servant
A lot of our political giants are appointed rather than elected, aren't they? Or they are simply important influential political figures in their own right.
(How about Samuel Pepys? His diaries are more famous and widely read than those of Campbell. He was never elected to a post).
