kim jong un
korean summit, farce, big fat murdering **** portraying a human side, whereas in reality he has ordered familial assassinations within last 5 months.
North meets south has come about due to the american intervention, and reigning the tub of lard in to ensure he knows his place.
what a disgusting scenario witnessing humans acting like robots.

fair play ? he is knuckling under, and has garnered miniscule attention because of his warmongering stance.
he is a turd in human form, no more, no less.

Not too different to Stalin really.
Replace the god like worship with the Uncle Joseph, murdered millions at a whim.

Whatever you think of him and the context, if this is a step towards a better quality of life for those poor buggers in the north it can only be a good thing.

Re: kim jong un
That thought did cross my mind but anything that brings these two adversaries closer, even if it is a bit false, has to be good for the world. The South Korean (whose name I don't know alas) looks a pretty cool dude actually and seems far more affable that Kim who with appearance and behaviour looks like he's got learning difficulties. And what IS that haircut all about?Wile E Coyote wrote:korean summit, farce, big fat murdering **** portraying a human side, whereas in reality he has ordered familial assassinations within last 5 months.

He has actually played the situation rather well. Like a lot of anti-American leaders he would have been paranoid about the possibility of an attack aimed at overthrowing him. By developing nuclear weapons he appeared to be something of a threat to us, although I am sure he never dreamed of making an attack. Now he can back down from his nuclear status by demanding security guarantees, probably with China as a signatory, and also significant economic concessions. Then he can appear as a great hero to his own people and perhaps even improve their quality of life.

Makes me wonder whether the real Kim has been bumped off and replaced, I can't understand the sudden U-turn on everything.

Re: kim jong un
Maybe KJU isn't like his father and grandfather. Maybe he liked the high life and has been trying to work out a way of positioning himself to get out of the hellhole created by his antecedents and has now got the US prepared to talk, the South positively engaged and China partially in support but equally scared that either they'll have a nuclear conflagration on their doorstep or, even worse, KJU will just hand over the keys to ROK/USA in return for being allowed to settle by the shores of Lake Geneva with the ill-gotten gains he's got stashed away. If that was the plan, it's certainly worked.ClaretinMyBlood wrote:Makes me wonder whether the real Kim has been bumped off and replaced, I can't understand the sudden U-turn on everything.

Did he not order the assassination of his own brother? Seems like a chip off the old block to me.thatdberight wrote:Maybe KJU isn't like his father and grandfather. Re: kim jong un
I didn't say he was a nice bloke, just that maybe he thinks it's time to cash in the family chips, point to the fact that he can continue to kill his own people and/or make a mess of the Korean peninsula OR the rest of the world can hold their nose, smile and treat him like a statesman, give him what he wants and he'll step out of the way if they'll leave him be thereafter.ClaretinMyBlood wrote:Did he not order the assassination of his own brother? The left are already claiming that Trump had no impact on this whatsoever. I wouldn't even mind, but had this happened under Obama after months of back and forth they would probably be hailing him a hero.

Well-connected defector claimed it last year. Reported in the press at the time. Proven? No. Credible? Yes.tim_noone wrote:How do you know this???

Exactly but he won't get it. Years of soft pussy footing diplomacy by the like of Obama achieved nothing on this issue. It did tip Libya into anarchy though.SussexDon1inIreland wrote:Trump deserves credit for this

Re: kim jong un
I for one, living WELL within range in Japan and with two young children, am thrilled at any process that may make the use of ANY weaponry less likely in this region and in any other around the world. I could not give a monkey`s ass who brought the two leaders together nor the motivations for doing so. History is littered with and has pretty much been shaped by, as many would call them, murderers and megalomaniacs, regardless of race, creed or religion. Let `em just get on with it, find common ground or compromise and initiate a safer future. Of course it may fall flat on its face but again, so could any accord ever made in the history of the world. The Good Friday agreement for one, was built on the shakiest of ground but remains intact (with many bumps along the way).tim_noone wrote:Looked very sincere on the TV nice to see peace talks going on.
I actually think Kim Jong Un has played a brilliant hand against `the West` BUT was helped incredibly by the Winter Olympics being held on the Korean Peninsula. It gave him a fantastic opportunity to smooth the way to `the table`. Luckily as well, Moon-Jae-In seems incredibly open to talks and is an excellent conduit for the West.
Let`s ALL hope for the good of the world (and especially for the Korean people, North and South of the border) that a semblance of peace and stability can come of this. I`d also rather not have any more missile safety drills with my 3-year-old and 1-year-old at their nursery.

I can't believe that some people are so easily misled. Do you really think that Trump's belligerent Twitter 'diplomacy' has had any influence here? China is the real player here, not a handful of tweets.

I reckon the only reason KJU has announced them stopping the nuclear programme is because they managed to blow up their testing facility, so are currently unable to proceed.

Re: kim jong un
And I can't believe some people are so determined to never acknowledge something Trump did contributed to something positive that they'll credit anyone else. You don't have to think Trump is a great leader or forget that his style entails risks to acknowledge he's part of the reason the dynamic has changed.Zugunruhe wrote:I can't believe that some people are so easily misled.
