Grimsby Town...

Post by Clarets4me » Sat May 05, 2018 8:50 pm

Have kept an eye out for Grimsby's scores since Burnley's former U23 Coach Michael Jolley was appointed Manager on 2nd March..

They were sinking fast at that time, and only picked up 2 points in his first 5 games. Since then however, Grimsby have picked up 13 out of 15 points in the last 5 games of the season, including beating Notts County & an away win at Swindon...

Given a full pre=season and some transfer dealings, they might be a decent outside bet for promotion next year... ;)

Random fact, Grimsby is the away ground I've attended the most times to watch Burnley but never seen us win there, even when we scored 5 in one game!

It's been a Jolley good improvement in recent weeks

Not surprised you haven't seen us win there Vintage - apart from the cup in 1974 and a penalty shoot out in 2007, we haven't won there in the league since 1947.

Think it was '74 and the special train got bricked just before we got to Cleethorpes!

Jolley was employed well after Howe left wasn’t he?
Then of course we wish him well.

Crikey, didn't know that, fair to say it's a bit of a bogey ground then!

I think I'm correct in saying that we've never won a game at Grimsby.

Because they play in Cleethorpes? You need to nit-pick more accurately - we have won AT Grimsby, meaning the home of Grimsby Town FC; we haven't won IN Grimsby. ;)

I'm not sure I understand that.

For the record, he joined Burnley in summer 2014 and left three years later to take up the management role in Sweden.

Howe left in Oct 2012 so was well before Jolley was employed.
