When We Used To Stand...Long Side or BHE?
My favourite place was at the top of the Longside, in line with the BeeHole End touchline. Looked wonderful when our goals bulged the net! ( not so good when we let em in) of course.
Then, if we were kicking towards the BHE in the second half, we'd wander round there and stand at the top.
Fabulous view, but I'd rather watch from the side.
Memories of that time?

Very front of longside as a kid climbing up
Re: When We Used To Stand...Long Side or BHE?
Top of longside about halfway between bhe railings and longside railings. In the dark days migrated more towards longside railings towards middle just to feel as though it was a crowd.

Top right where the singing generally started from about 13 onwards.
Down at the front when younger.

Always been Beehole end.
From sitting on the fence at the front just to left of the goal with legs dangling through then leaning back against the barrier when got too big to fit through.
Still in the end now, with our seats being in the same place as where we use to stand

Nearest the Longside or to the pies?
The smell of ale being on the Longside.
And one that's just popped into my head......
Watching Wolves fans getting animated at our lot singing 'We want to be together' on the banking out the back of the Longside where the bogs were.
"Come on in, come on in, come on in"

I remember that game well (being about 14 at the time) it was in reference to the yellow pages advert wasn't it?Bin Ont Turf wrote:Watching Wolves fans getting animated at our lot singing 'We want to be together'
A mate of mine locked a wolves fan in a phone box on Todmorden road by tieing his scarf between both handles.
We thought it was hilarious when the guy escaped and gave our mate a clip for it
Re: When We Used To Stand...Long Side or BHE?
About halfway down the Longside, 10m from the segregation fence. Used to see the same faces every week, never knew their names. On a sunny day in the top left corner of the beehole. Much like others I was 16-20 in the late eighties and used to squeeze in where maximum crowd density was, just to feel the heave when we scored
which wasn't that often!
Loved the new stands when they were built but do feel we lost a little bit when the Longside in particular, went.

Longside.
All through the early/mid 70s. Sometimes in the old '30 club's seats in the CF
When the gates dwindled to near nothing, in the Beehole from 86 ish, sat down under an umbrella when it rained.
There was plenty of room....

Loved The Longside
Bottom third of the Longside to ‘engage’ away supporters was the best.
Loved it though when we moved to the CFS, from the players entrance to the Longside - and the away fans didn’t know what to make of us strangely dressed bunch.

The very back of the Longside, against the wall, just to the left of the last exit.

Re: When We Used To Stand...Long Side or BHE?
As a kid was almost always in the cfs. With the odd exception. Occasionally going in the beehole end (very sure we played walsall in an fa cup game on a friday night and i stood in there), ajax friendly and england u21s v latvia being the ones i remember in the beehole. Someone may correct me on walsall!?
For some reason didnt go in beehole when england schoolboys played wales. Sat in the usual cfs.
Then for reserve games always sat in the bob lord.
To say how much i love terracing and standing I have absolutely zero recollection of ever going in the longside for a game. But I must have at some stage. It must be the only stand in my lifetime i never went in. I cant remember ever doing so.

Occasionally into BHE, if i knew someone there.
Looking back I can't believe how much freedom to wander I was given by my mum.

Re: When We Used To Stand...Long Side or BHE?
My first season 70/71 stood at the front of the Bee Hole, edge of the pen, Longside side. Then we moved onto the Longside, but in the “visitors” section before it was completely segregated. Spent most of Amy later teens in the thick of it, and the thin at times. Halfway down the back section, just in front of the exit nearest the fence.

The thought of that would blow younger supporters minds now. Just think, you could pay in cash on the gate and watch the game from wherever you wanted... and even move at any point.ElectroClaret wrote:

Started in the enclosure in front of Brunshaw Road stand as a youngster, then Longside at the top about halfway between no mans land and the end of the roof

Longside, two thirds in, near the back, except when we played Celtic at home when a tactical withdrawal found us rear and centre of the Bee Hole.

Depending who took me on;
BHE begins the goal 1/3 way up
Longside rooming around or with legs through the fence...safe

Re: When We Used To Stand...Long Side or BHE?
First few games for me were in the Bee Hole but soon migrated to the Longside and stayed there for years. About two thirds the way back about level with the middle of the 'Bee hole Half' of the pitch. Used to meet some mates there, some from when I was at school. What a bloody atmosphere in there when it was even nearly full. The only exceptions to this were the Celtic game when me and my mate migrated after a while to the BHE just before it really kicked off, the Wolves FA Cup tie when they took over the Longside before most of us had arrived (even though I hate to say it what a site that sea of black and gold was) and a few FA Youth Cup games and reserves games when I was in the Bob Lord because I think it was the only area opened for those games. I miss the Longside and the banter (even when it got out of hand) and the atmosphere has never been the same since it went.
Re: When We Used To Stand...Long Side or BHE?
76 through to closure top middle of the longside, stood with a great group (approximately 12 of us) for a significant amount of years, unfortunately lost touch with most since stands opened. Some great memories though all the same.
Re: When We Used To Stand...Long Side or BHE?
My dad was a bit tight so unless it was chucking it down we went in the bee hole. Think it was a quid cheaper in there if memory serves.

Yes, I think it was a bit cheaper. Wasn't there some small gates in the fence dividing the LS and BHE which they opened up with about 15-20 minutes to go so you could walk round?Foulthrow wrote:My dad was a bit tight so unless it was chucking it down we went in the bee hole. Re: When We Used To Stand...Long Side or BHE?
There was a gate. Used to pay for beehole sometimes, as it was cheaper and they lifted my little brother over the turnstiles but if it rained depending how many were on (often not many) and the mindset of the bobbie on the gate, they would open it and let you through for some cover. The stench from the bogs at the back of the Longside still lingers with me to this day

Longside near some guy who wore a long overcoat in which he had maxpacks soups coffee and tea in disposable vending cups.He also had flasks of hot water.I think he delivered them and shared them out to fans like me who stood near him.
Saw him over many seaaons as we plummeted down the leagues. The day we dropped into the 4th Division he said enough was enough and said he'd not come on anymore.I've never seen him since.

Longside alright for the "newer" supporters to remember but the old Cricket Field terrace now that was atmosphere and noise matched by only a few clubs. The Clarets always tried to attack that end in the second half must have been really intimidating for other teams
