Best sunrise view in the Burnley area

Post by SalouClaret » Fri May 25, 2018 6:42 pm

I've recently purchased a new camera and want to take a few sunrise photos one morning this weekend. Not being from the area originally I'm not sure where to go that A - will look half decent and B - where I will actually be able to see the sunrise. Thinking within 10 miles of Burnley. Serious suggestions only please, I don't fancy trying to take photos with a half decent camera in the stoops estate

Cheers!

Not been there for a few years and never at sunrise/sunset, but perhaps where the singing ringing tree is? Might not be the calmest place, though.

Dunno about sunrise, but you get some belting sunsets on Manchester rd, between the Waggoners and crown point rd

SUnrise doesn't seem to be great in Burnley, the horizon is a little short with Black Hameldon being the typical point that the sun rises. Crown Point might be your best bet, or head up to Causeway to lengthen the view. Typically the more atmosphere between yourself and the sun the more spectacular is a tip I was given years ago and seems to be true.

Best one I saw round here was on pendle facing east also. At the wellsprings restaurant.

Food was alright but the view and sunset were awesome. Great beer too.

This might be a good spot to catch a good Sunrise.
On Pendle road which leads to Downham.
A favourite early evening picnic spot for the missus & me looking North East with views of the Dales.
That's if you don't fancy a walk up Pendle Hill.

Turn right at the end of Laneshawbridge and drive about two miles to the top of the hill where the first reservoir is. Fantastic views towards the Bradford area (the other morning I was actually above the clouds)....If you drive a bit further, through Stanbury and turn right. The top of the next climb is Penistone Hill which has even better views towards the east over Haworth.

If you buy the Photographer’s Ephemeris app it will show you sun rise/set times and the effect the light has at any location - really useful for pre-planning a shot

If you turn by the converted old school, halfway down Clowbridge Res. you can drive up to the police masts on Hameldon Hill. A short walk across the moor to the edge gives a great view over town with Pendle Hill as a backdrop. It would catch the rising sun as a bonus.

I suggested the singing ringing, swinging tree (never get the name right, but I think it's where the Swingers 'hang out') and just did a bit of Googling. I suggest you do the same Salou. Some pretty spot on photos. Clearly photoshopped but it might be worth considering.

They look absolutely marvelous Lord Beamish. There's even a bit of kryptonite in the bottom photo. You really are Superman!
