Failing to see the hype. I've had a few of their brews on and off over the years but the thing which has really peesed me off in the last week is their "Elvis Juice" a Grapefruit IPA which is highly rated but I've no idea why.

Tastes like a bottle of FCUK alcopop from the early 2000s we used to buy from a cash n carry.

Their "PUNK" IPA as well... it's barely a lager, nevermind an IPA!

They are the Jamie Oliver of the brew world "Oh yeah, we're so trendy and brand new and outrageous, especially with our brand new trendy outrageous marketing" All smoke and mirrors, appealing to douchebags who wouldn't know a hop if they snorted one.

Their beers are ****, along with most other UK "Craft brewery"

As usual in this country, quality goes only so far, douchebag marketing will take you to the moon though!

Would tend to agree. They have a great bar in Nottingham selling their various ales but ,yes, I agree that the quality, beneath the hype, is ropey.

It's quite literally a matter of taste. I personally like some of their beers, I also enjoy real ale and have frequented CAMRA pubs for as long as I can remember so like to think I could sniff out a hop. Apart from the odd bit of click bait to sign up to the 'Equity for Punks' offering I've never seen an advert for Brewdog so can say it's been a case of me enjoying (some) of their beers due to the flavour, rather than being a douchebag consumer falling for the marketing. Some craft beer is nice, some is terrible, the same can be said for real ales, lager, cider etc. This is just my opinion though and I don't feel the need to insult anybody who doesn't happen to share it.

As a committed real ale man I’d rather sniffily dismissed craft beer as real ale for lager drinkers (although that in itself isn’t such a bad thing!)

However, decent real ale in bottles is hard to find and some craft beers are great for home consumption. I think Punk is an excellent beer.

I suppose its about everyone's individual taste - I quite like the Punk IPA, some of the others are good - Clockwork Tangerine is very moreish.
Whether you like their beers or not is one thing, but to compare it to normal lager as the OP did is just plain barmy - bog standard lagers such as Carling [utter pi-ss water], etc simply do not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence.

In the final analysis, as with all things taste-wise, it’s down to personal preference. I judge beers on what they taste like to me, and nothing else. In that respect there are some Real Ales I particularly like and some I don’t. The same can be said for Craft Beers.
The real upside of Craft Beers for me is the sheer amount of them there are to try, and to find out whether or not you like them. Just like with Real Ales, there’s where the fun lies.

You're right though, the Punk IPA is bog standard compared to other IPA's. But I wasn't doing that was I ? I was comparing it to bog standard lagers. Anyway, each to their own, whatever you like, you like, its that's simple really.

I think this was the point everyone could ignore your opinion on beer.

Not liking Punk IPA is fair enough but to compare something with that quantity of hops in it to cooking lagers is ridiculous.

Not knowing what you drink, I hope you’re not about to compare it to dishwater like Greene King IPA either.

There’s better IPAs coming out of the small Manchester craft brewers and out of Magic Rock, but Punk isn’t bad when you are short of choice somewhere.

I've started taking a liking to Stone (Berlin) Go To IPA. It's a delicious 'hop bomb' and not a crazy ABV at 4.7%.

Proper Job IPA by St Austell Brewery is another one that's decent enough and easy to find in the supermarkets. Very hoppy, almost grapefruit, but very dry and refreshing. I think it's 5.5%.

I'm not great a fan of Brewdog. Good marketing, though. I find their beers a much of a muchness.

Punk IPA isn't as good as it was a few years ago, but it's still worth a go if there's not much else in the shop. I have Elvis Juice possibly once a month, I like it.

Their bars are great though. Big champions of breweries like Mikkeller, Stone etc, and.for a long time were the only places you could get stuff like that. Their growth has been phenomenal too, a real British success story.

I like real ales and it’s what I drink in the pub. At home I drink IPAs because very few real ales transfer well into carbonated bottles. Landlord for example is a fantastic real ale, however it is awful once carbonated and bottled. Proper job is the only real ale I’ve tasted which I think taste better bottled. Punk IPA is alright although I don’t think it tastes as good as it used to

Real ales aren't carbonated before bottling, it's secondary fermentation that occurs naturally in the bottle.

Good beer is good beer regardless of whether it's out of a cask/keg/tramp's shoe. We're very lucky there's such a booming industry and the moment pumping some great stuff out.

Most real ales get pastuerised when they get bottled, and as a result taste naff compared to on cask. Bottle conditioned is still pretty rare really.

Yep, we are lucky. Good brewing was in danger of becoming a dying art back in the 1980s.

Yeah a lot of them do kill off the yeast first, but by the CAMRA definition, if it's pasteurised, it's not real ale.

You just need to pour bottle conditioned out carefully as usually a bit of sediment
