Pope's New NEW Contract?
Is there any truth in this?
I for one am hoping this is true, but would also like to keep Tom also

EXCLUSIVE: Surprise Klopp target to snub Liverpool by penning new deal
Date published: Tuesday 12th June 2018 10:53
Liverpool target Nick Pope has agreed terms on a new contract at Burnley, in recognition for his meteoric rise in the past 12-months, we can reveal.
The 26-year-old, who only made his Premier League debut when coming in to replace Tom Heaton in September, and was soon handed a new deal taking him to 2020.
But Pope has since kept the Clarets’ No.1 spot and forced his way in England’s World Cup squad.
Now Burnley are ready to let Heaton leave and will keep Pope happy with a second deal in six months – more than doubling his earnings in the process.
The former Charlton star had been linked with a £15million move to Liverpool over the weekend, but Pope’s representatives have now agreed a deal that will be announced at some point this summer as Burnley allow the player to concentrate on his England duties.

Re: Pope's New NEW Contract?
Would be sad to see Tom leave and hope he has the fight about him to stay and play cup / European games in order to try and force his way back into the first team (both with us and England) , sadly I can understand if someone comes in and offers him first team premier league football and offers us and him a good price then there is likely a 0% chance of him staying.

Re: Pope's New NEW Contract?
Great news about Pope. Heaton going? I guess it may be inevitable. The team and squad is progressing year on year. Upgrading in every position. If you look at the team that got us into the prem for the 2nd time with Dyche and see what the starting 11 is, on the opening day of the forthcoming season. It'll be unrecognisable.
It's called progress. Its the best, on field progress, the club has benefited from, in 50 years, in my opinion.
Onwards and upwards eh!?

Re: Pope's New NEW Contract?
Wouldn't be a shock.
Both excellent keepers who will not want to be limited to cup competitions.
I for one would keep Pope over Tom simply due to his age. 15m would do

Let’s see how the WC and season beginning pans out before anything else with these two.

Re: Pope's New NEW Contract?
Hopefully they will both be with us fighting for the jersey at the season start. Its a bit defeatist just to up sticks because you havnt got the shirt back straight away after injury. If one has had no 1st team football by Jan then fair enough.

I think Tom as 2/3 more years left at this level but probably little value in the transfer market where as Pope will demand a sizeable fee. The business man in me says fill ya boots in selling Pope and stick Tom in the pegs for the next 3 years.

I also agree as it seems the least worst option in the present circumstances.

Re: Pope's New NEW Contract?
If the money's right, it would have to be Pope who leaves. 4 years is a long time in football, and Tom has at least that left in him.
We could sell Tom, and then find we lose Nick in the next year or two anyway. Tom as a local, and captain, is far more likely to stick with us in the long haul. In a perfect world, because of his age, I'd keep Nick, but another season like the last one at that will become more and more difficult.

Tom has a dodgy shoulder now no matter what has been done-he also has a brain. Keep both but let Tom go if any has to go

Re: Pope's New NEW Contract?
Neither need to leave yet. Nick will need a break after the World cup as well as a pre-season. We start late July in the Europa preliminaries and I think the transfer deadline is early August. My guess is Tom will start the Europa Cup games and Nick may then be ready for the EPL. There's enough games early on to keep both reasonably happy. We may need to re-visit this in January, as the season unfolds, if by then either one of them is unhappy.
Just my opinion of course....

Re: Pope's New NEW Contract?
As good as Nick Pope was this season (and he was very good) I still think Tom Heaton was even better the season before.
But for the injury if Tom would have continued the form he was in I think he would be starting for England v Tunisia.
If Tom is fully recovered and we got an offer of £35m in for Nick Pope then I would take it. Tom Heaton is also our captain and with losing the likes of Marney and Arfield it would be good to have someone there who understands Dyche and the culture of the club like Heaton does.
I think it would be tough to keep both keepers at the club. With Tom especially at his age he wants / needs to be playing first team football.

Just posted in the Express

Picking out comments like
“I’m delighted for him. We have a fantastic relationship, we really enjoy each others company and we enjoy competing against each other"
“I’m made up for him to be there, and from my point of view I’m looking forward to locking horns again next season"
it would appear that both of our keepers are happy to stay and compete for the starting slot. The thing that stands out most is the level of professionalism and team spirit demonstrated by Tom, which secured him his England stand by call up. To hear him talk about relishing the prospect of friendly competition for the keeper jersey is very welcome.
Keeping (no pun intended) hold of both of them would be a fantastic result. The paultry sums that have been associated with rumours of speculative interest wouldn't help our cause very much. With Tom and Nick on reasonably long contracts we have no urgent need to sell either of them.
In terms of general cash flow, we aren't in the maket for dozens of expensive players for next season and we definitely don't need the money. Thanks to the hefty payout from last season and the money we have squirreled away in previous seasons we should have enough to buy any players we are interested in.
Our key priority has to be keeping together a squad that is working, developing and performing well together.
On the opposite side of the equation, strenghening any of our competitors could prove costly and it should be something we should actively resist. Tom or Nick would improve most of the teams outside of the top six and if they have to look elsewhere for lesser keepers at higher prices that will work to our advantage.

Re: Pope's New NEW Contract?
If we do progress in the Europa League we will need 2 quality keepers. If we get through the first 6 additional matches to the group stages there are then another 6 group stage matches in addition to the League Cup from Round 3, which many of us would like to see a genuine effort made in next season.
So potentially we may have around 15 additional competitive games up to Christmas, more than enough to keep 2 quality keepers entertained and engaged.
