Great goal by the Danes, who seem to be in control.
Am enjoying the fact that there is no play acting.

I had Schmeichel as one of the best keepers in the Prem and better than Pope but Ive no doubt Pope would have saved that had he been Danish and therefore he must be better.

The scousers are gonna need to up their bid as in my book his values has just risen yet again

It’s been an awful world cup, this far but it always is.
The current match could be only the fourth really good game, after SpavPor, GervMex and BravSwz.
The final group games, that matter, are where it takes off.
No new systems so far and very few unknowns who’ve made a reputation.

Clear pen. A header that is on target stopped by an arm that is stuck out, up in the air.
If that had been Clarets and not given you’d be crying in your beer.

I thought we were in for a cracking World Cup after watching the Portugal v Spain game, really boring so far though. Penalties, own goals, mismatched teams, negative tactics. I think we have to wait until the knock out stages to see games between 2 teams trying to win the game. Non of the top teams have got out of first gear yet but the competition is so poor they don't need to just yet.

If that had have been the Clarets, I would have WANTED it given but would still think it was a wrong decision.
In fact, I’ve not seen a penalty given in this World Cup that was more clearly NOT a penalty

''really boring so far''

Do you understand what I meant when I said ''so far''? or did you purposely miss that part, selective reading.

I think he was just sucking up to Piston.

People need to look more than just goals and see the tactics that teams are playing. There's been games when it's been more like a chess match, and I find that sometimes also very interesting.

Here’s the handball law. If anyone can persuade me that a penalty was the correct decision after reading this then I’ll be amazed.

“HANDLING THE BALL

Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with the hand or arm.

The following must be considered:
- the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand)
- the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball)
- the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an offence”

What gets me is that the VAR people are not under the same intense pressure as the referee and they have time to look at the incident at least a couple of times and from all different angles yet they see fit to flag it up to the referee. The referee then has a closer look and comes up with one of the most farcical decisions at this World Cup. We need a STBOR (seeing the bleeding obvious referee) not a VAR.

One thing that's reminded me in this World Cup, and yeah you see it all the time in football, but it seems to be more obvious... lack of anticipation.

So many players don't read the game well and don't anticipate a player is going to make a pass before it happens. You then get a player who doesn't reach the ball in time, when really, they should have set off a second earlier. It's only the best teams such as Spain who have players that have the obvious ball playing skills, but they also have it upstairs. They know a ball is coming to them before it happens.

Players have to learn to keep their arms down.
The header was on target. It is usually ball to hand but where the hand is must be taken into consideration.

I think not. Too much of this thread has been taken up with the debate on who should be there and KRBFC and myself are at opposite ends of that argument but we just happen to agree that, so far, this tournament hasn’t stirred the blood.

It doesn’t matter if the header was on target.
It doesn’t necessarily matter where the arm is.

But it should.
Horsefiddlers scored a goal at Pompey, a few years back, where the player slid in and pushed the ball into the net. Totally accidental but the goal was given. A nonsense, scoring a goal with an illegal part of your body.
The laws need tightening up so any handball is a handball. Players would then tuck their arms behind their back, as Trippier does even now.

This France game should be good, I don't think the Peruvian's will sit back like negative pussies and let World class players have all of the ball in their final 3rd. I expect them to get after the French like the Mexicans did which should make for an exciting game.

but how do you move your body properly with your hands behind your back, arms are used for momentum, balance, leverage and contact with opposition players to get the physical edge.

Disagree. The referee made the correct decision from what he saw and that was no penalty, however, because someone watching on a TV screen has a different opinion, he contacts the referee and tells him that he must have another look at the incident. The referee, being a FIFA employee and very aware that FIFA's big new thing is VAR, is considering his options whilst he makes his way to look at the screen. By the time he looks at it again on a screen, all he sees it that it hit the defender's hand and, because the VAR opinion has been brought to bear, he changes his original correct decision in order to appease his bosses and keep his job.

As you know I am pro var but I think you have a very valid point.
I can’t think of a single instance where having been told to check var the ref has said I was correct the first time. They have always upheld the var officials decision.

Peru are ranked 4 places behind France, hardly the underdogs Iran were against Spain.
