Oh - and ITV have asked one of the referees - Clattenburg? And he said it was a red card.
Thank you.
He was lightly stepped on because of the big crowd of making it difficult for the Mexican to step over to get the ball.
Had he not hung onto the ball like a brat then the player wouldn't have had to come over and none of this would have happened.
And if you're calling for a red card every time someone stands on slemone, I think every game ever played would be abandoned due to too many players being sent off

.................
I have no idea how hard he was stepped on and not sure how anyone viewing knows either.....the lad should have got a red card for intent....he knew EXACTLY what he was doing....play acting or no play acting that player deliberately stepped on his ankle to cause pain/injury or both....no question about it.

I've lost track here. frank said it was a red card. Well you can't get any more obvious. Not sure how they missed it really so I'd say it's poor from the officials.

The O/P is about Neymar's cheating - he constantly over-reacts and did so yet again today. Thought it was embarrassing again today - if he looks back on some of his rolling about surely he should be hanging his head in shame. With skill like he has he doesn't need to do the theatricals.
As for a red card - it wasn't given by the ref though it was a deliberate foot on ankle. The "pundits" suggested that potential red cards were one of the 4 areas VAR could look at - but no suggestion that they did? Just wondered if anyone heard why they didnt look at it again?

They were all rolling around the floor of the video room to see if any of them could outdo Neymar -----they fell about laughing at his antics and forgot all about reviewing the incident. C'est la vie!

He'll just carry on cheating because there's been no punishment that fits. He's obviously no self-awareness at all. It's been a brilliant tournament so far but his antics are ruining it!

Aye he’s crap - won nothing (except loads of titles, cups, etc) and would struggle to make an impact in The Vanarama.
Yes he exaggerated but the Mexicans - like all the other teams - targeted him from the first minute. Have you seen how many times he gets kicked / fouled ? Is that not cheating ?
He could cheat by kicking them back but decides to cheat in a different way. I find it difficult to reconcile how you think that kicking lumps out of a player is more noble than exaggerating his pain.
It is start to working against him though as I don’t understand how that cannot be given as a red card. The player who did it had been chasing around kicking Neymar for the previous 10 mins before he stood on him.

Again, you miss the point. It's NOTHING TO DO with his pain. It's the intent made by the Mexican.

No, it's you who miss the point of the thread. It's the intent made by the Brazilian child to get a fellow professional footballer sent off!
Or did the Mexican taser Neymar? I hadn't realised,
if so of course he should've seen red!

Loads of folk on this thread are right;
Red card? Yes.
Overacting? Yes.
Mediocre? No.
Part of the disease? Absolutely.
Wish serious injury? To be honest, a bit. I think the game would be better off without the likes of Neymar, Busquets, Suarez et al.

I detest him. Detested him since I first saw him play in the Confederation Cup in 2013. There's no doubting he's an excellent player but his head isn't where it should be.
And leaving a genuinely "big" club to join PSQ sums him up. He's got a highly punchable face.

Off the pitch,
Dead ball,
In my day that would have been a nothing incident, a bit like when Norman Effing Hunter did our wonderful Frank Casper off the field

Wishing an injury on a player. And somebody likes it! Good God. How pathetic.
You wish a serious injury on a footballer. Take my advice: stop watching a game you don't understand.

The weird thing is, how many tines he gets himself/the team in a good position, and he falls over, which stops play and undoes the hard work.

The kind of antics displayed by Neymar needs to be stamped out of the game. I’d have absolutely no problem with someone going right through him on purpose to give him a real reason that’s cry. Pathetic drama queenery.

Any player feigning injury should be taken to the side of the pitch and given the actual injury they were complaining about. For fairness, an independent panel of FIFA members, all dressed as referees, of course, should carry out the sentence.
On a more serious note, it would be great to see a rule such as:
“The referee will wave play on if any player dives, feigns injury, exaggerates, simulates, etc, even if there has been a clear foul. The cheat shall then be booked. No punishment for the person committing the alleged foul coz that’s just the way it is”

He was off the pitch anyway. Once they'd done a quick VAR for intent they could have just played on. The cheating f***wad I mean Neymar would have shown recovery levels associated with the miracles of Christ

1. Studs deliberately put on an opponents leg/ foot or any other areas of an opponents body is a serious foul in my book, so a straight red for me. We’ve seen far to much of it in this WC for my liking.
2. A straight yellow for Neymar for constantly over acting in the game and at this incident.
I rest my case

Trod on Neymars ankle and simultaneously the refs foot.
Only one of them was rolling about in the floor like a ****.
Why didn’t the ref? Because he had nothing to gain that’s why.
Neymar is an embarrasment, good player or not.
