I think that is on everyone's mind but a word of optimism, would Accy and Lincoln have beaten us over two legs? A freak one-off result is always possible but to carry it off over two legs is a much more difficult task. I actually think tonight might be a draw but I hope I'm wrong as we don't want too much pressure at the Turf next week.

Historically we have always done superbly against Scottish clubs and I don't expect that to change. When we won the Anglo Scottish cup years ago as a then 2nd Division side (Championship) we did so by scoring an absolute shed load of goals and doing the double over Celtic. Hearts at home (5-0). East Fife at home (8-0) and ALL games against Scottish sides won. Things are different now but I think they are more in favour of English teams than ever before.

Our recent record in Europe has been fairly decent....winning away from home where we weren't supposed to in Groningen and Rijeka....but then we generally stumble when we come up against a team with real money.

Once thing is certain though, and it's that these ties played in July are completely unpredictable. Teams are beginning their season, players have left, new players have come in. A couple of years ago we almost got caught cold in Luxembourg (survived because they missed a penalty), and a week later in the next tie we won 3-0 in Croatia.

Both Celtic and Rangers have lost to sides from Gibraltar and Luxembourg at this point in the last few seasons.

Aberdeen have lost quite a few players this close season and effectively we're in the middle of a re-building process. We're missing 2 strikers and I doubt very much if the team that plays tonight will be the same side that we put out in 7 days time.

However, we do have quite a few seasons now of European experience and know what it takes to win at this point in the year. I'm hoping that Burnley are looking for a nice comfortable start to play their way into European football, because I can assure you Aberdeen will come flying out of the blocks determined to catch you cold.

Saying that, there's no real secret in the fact that European football these days is won by keeping a clean sheet at home and conversely scoring away.

Nobody connected with Aberdeen would be devastated with a boring 0-0 tonight. In fact we'd be delighted with it

Burnley don't wallop opposition so anyone expecting an easy win is miles off.

I think we win over two legs by the odd goal.

Burnley haven't made any new signings so they should all gel together and Dyche doesn't take anything for granted.

But footballs football and anything can happen. Or we would all be rich from our coupons.

I don’t think comparing our FA and League Cup results with this European Cup qualification are the same.

We didn’t have to qualify for the two domestic cups but we did with Europe which is a higher profile one.

So on that basis I think we will take this tie very seriously.

All things being equal I suspect a 2 or 1-0. Win tonight.

I just think the stars are pointing towards disappointment.

I'd take a draw tonight, preferably with an away goal. We are notoriously poor in cup competitions under Dyche and I expect the Aberdeen crowd to be an extra man for them. Anyone thinking we'll walk it is deluded. We need a professional performance similar to the one at Ewood last season, rather than the shambolic displays vs Lincoln and Accy!!

also suspect a tricky two ties and will be close, they will be so up for what to them would be a major scalp and we think of it as a 90 min pre-season outing, don't have our best 11 anywhere near ready but over the ties I am seeing us squeeze through by an odd goal or an away goal so hope we score tonight at least!

Also every time I try to convince myself of a reasonably easy win Accy, Lincoln jump straight in to my head so am going for cautious optimism, much prefer being the underdog:)
