Luzern away
If we get through and so do these does anybody have any info to add.
There's flights to Basel for less than £100 return, which is 6o miles away.

Re: Luzern away
Used it as a base for the Euros in Austria and Switzerland, and was back there to visit friends last weekend.
Trains to Basel, Bern and Zurich are all easy, and cost around 30chf for a single ticket.
There are a number of campsites and hotels in the region as well as Ski Lodges a bit further away, or for those looking for proper posh, the Birgenstock complex.

Re: Luzern away
Would be brilliant Ben.
Re: Luzern away
I have a mate who lives there and supports them. Will be tapping him for info should the time come.
Re: Luzern away
Flight to Zurich, train (from airport) to Lucerne. Spend a load of money staying at the Art Deco Montana for the best views and best breakfast you will ever have.

Re: Luzern away
You might be surprised but the locals are actually more inclined towards Kellog's Country Store.Quickenthetempo wrote:Alpen???

Re: Luzern away
I actually live in Basel so am really hoping this comes to be. Lucerne is about an hour from Basel by train (~50 GBP return). Zurich airport would be another option which is a similar distance away. You can check trains on the sbb website (https://www.sbb.ch/en" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)Quickenthetempo wrote:If we get through and so do these does anybody have any info to add.

The place itself is a very pretty little city on a lake surrounded by mountains but a bit dull in my limited experience. Switzerland is pretty expensive (~ 6+ quid for a pint of lager for example) but friendly, safe and well organised. I follow the local league a bit and Lucerne finished third a long way behind Basel and Young Boys and wouldn't really fill me with much fear.

Same here. A friend of mine lives 20 mins away, not seen him for a few years so would be nice to watch Burnley and catch up with them.jrgbfc wrote:Would definitely prefer this to Athens.
Re: Luzern away
For the full experience, you can stay in any of the tourist hotels on lake luzern and then go into town on one of the paddle steamers.
It's a lovely town. The transport museum is entertaining and the lion monument worth seeing.
The ground isn't all that, and they are wholly inconsistent - but you could say that about most sides in the swiss league. Not easy to find, but it's just a case of getting the right bus out of town.
I went in the away end when luzern were over here playing spurs in the intertoto some decades back.

Me too. Cheaper and easier to get to. Much more friendly fans. Great place for a long weekend after the match.jrgbfc wrote:Would definitely prefer this to Athens.
Re: Luzern away
Just had a look at flights didn't realise you could fly to Basel from Manchester as well as Zurich. Definitely would be easier to get to and looks like it would be a great place to spend a few days!

Re: Luzern away
Already booked hotel (option to cancel for free), so no doubt Athens it is then
Re: Luzern away
Lucerne would be amazing. Cheap enough to Basel and easy onward transport to Lucerne which is a stunning place. Casino by the lake with nice bars and restaurants.
Didn’t realise they had a football team though!

Re: Luzern away
I can't see them beating the Greeks and an Athens team away would be a trip into hostile territory.
